As With Gladness men of Old As with gladness men of old Did the guiding star behold, As with joy they hailed its light, Leading onward, beaming bright, So, most gracious Lord, may we Evermore be led to Thee. As with joyful steps they sped To that lowly manger-bed, There to bend the knee before Him whom heaven and earth adore, So may we with willing feet Ever seek Thy mercy seat. As they offered gifts rare At that manger rude and bare, So may we with holy joy, Pure, and free from sin s alloy, All our costliest treasures bring, Christ, to Thee our heavenly King. Holy Jesus, every day Keep us in the narrow way; And, when earthly things are past, Bring our ransomed souls at last Where they need no star to guide, Where no clouds Thy glory hid. Christ As a Child Activities 1. Try to find real gold (Jewelry shop), frankincense (import market), and myrrh (import market) to examine them. 2. What was Egypt like when Jesus as a young child visited that country? Find information and pictures. 3. Use a Bible map of that time to calculate how far Joseph and his family traveled: first to Bethlehem, next to Egypt, then to Nazareth. He was the lamb without blemish and without spot The wise men had seen a mysterious light in the heavens upon that night when the glory of God flooded the hills of Bethlehem. As the light faded, a luminous star appeared, and lingered in the sky. It was not a fixed star nor a planet, and the phenomenon excited the keenest interest. That star was a distant company of shining angels, but of this the wise men were ignorant. Page 21

Thought Questions 24. How many wise men were there? (It is not stated in the Scriptures.) 25. What does the Bible say in regard to the type of building Jesus was in at the time of the visit of the wise men? (Greek house Strong s Concordance number 3614 = residence, an abode, a family [especially a domestic home]) 26. What was the star that guided the wise men to the place of Jesus birth? (It is not stated in Scripture, but some say it was the angels that appeared to the shepherds on the night of Jesus birth.) 27. He was condemned for our sins, in which He had no share, that we might be justified by His righteousness, in which we had no share. He suffered the death which was ours, that we might receive the life which was His. With his stripes we are healed.
