Sacred Heart Parish Fifth Sunday of Easter I am the way, the truth and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father, except through me. Today s Readings: 1st Reading - Acts of the Apostles 6:1-7 2nd Reading - 1 Peter 2:4-9 Gospel - John 14:1-12 May 18, 2014 0132

Stewardship Corner ~ In the first reading this weekend, we hear about the appointment of seven deacons to aid the early ministry of the Church. The 12 apostles prayed over these men chosen by their disciples so that both the ministry of the Word and service to others in need could be carried out in that community. Through our own baptisms, while we are not made deacons, we are tasked with the same call- to spread the Word and to serve others. The ministry of the priest, while it brings each of us to the altar in a unified celebration of Christ, needs to be supplemented by us sharing the faith through action amongst each other. The second reading from St. Peter calls Jesus the living stone. With Jesus as the Cornerstone and foundation of our Church, we are each in turn called to be living stones. It is our job to prepare and build a place for others to seek shelter and find a home under our unity in this task. As one body working together in this purpose, we participate in the message of stewardship. By using our God-given gifts to serve the Church and one another, we strengthen our faith community. Each of us standing alone has a purpose and a worth as a living stone, but together, as lay persons, deacons, and priests, we can move effectively and completely to accomplish God s work here on Earth. Are you listening to and heeding His call to strengthen His Church here on Earth? How is God calling you to spread the Word? Peace, Kaitlyn Wiant 2014 Sacred Heart CYO Sports Banquet When: Sunday, June 1, 2014 5:00pm-8:00pm Where: Chester County Technical College High School 280 Pennocks Bridge Road West Grove, PA Who: The CYO Banquet is open to CYO Athletes, 5th-8th grade and younger CYO Athletes who participated in Cross Country and Track and Field. This Priests Convocation provides a unique opportunity for priestly fraternity and unity. It is also a time dedicated to prayer and reflection on the gift of the ministerial priesthood instituted by Christ for the Church. These days will include the celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours and Holy Mass, as well as, talks on the theme, Priest, Prophet and King: Reviving Pride in Our Priesthood, given by the Very Reverend Robert Barron, Rector-President of Mundelein Seminary, Chicago, Illinois. The Deans have planned in advance for the sacramental needs and emergencies in our parishes and institutions during these days with the help of many Religious, senior and retired priests. Please pray for our Archbishop, Auxiliary Bishops and Priests during the upcoming Priests Convocation. May this Priests Convocation bear fruit for our priests in holiness of life and of greater service to Christ and His Church. 0132 Sacred Heart Parish Sunday, May 18, 2014

Lily's Gift is a ministry that provides support to parents carrying to term following a prenatal diagnosis that utilizes the perinatal hospice model of support while following the ethical teachings of the Catholic Church with regard to the dignity of human life, disability advocacy, and end of life issues. God gives purpose to each person no matter how long or short their life expectancy. Lily s Gift includes a Gifting support that provides baptismal/burial gowns that are provided to the families that we are ministering to. Gifting affirms the dignity of the baby, encouraging and supporting the parent s decision to carry to term and parent the child, for a precious moment in some cases. We are currently in need of wedding gowns and 1 st Communion dresses, used or new, clean or stained. The dresses will be made into baptismal/burial gowns and given to parents for their infants who have been named and loved for their short presence here on earth. Thank you for generously supporting our ministry. Please contact Kathryn 610-998-9198 or Dos 610-416-2720. For more information about Lily s Gift, please visit www.lilysgift.org. S a c r e d H e a r t S c h o o l Sacred Heart School Many Families, One Heart The Pre-Kindergarten program at Sacred Heart School is an invaluable experience for young learners. The academic and social skills that children are taught begin the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Our pre-kindergarten is a caring and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to grow at their own pace. Class sizes are small; enabling more one on one and small group instruction. Our students feel safe and secure in their environment and form strong friendships with the other students leading to more confident learners. This year s classes have been busy preparing for their last few weeks of school. They have been welcoming the last of the letter people to their classrooms, visiting with their prayer buddies and practicing for their appearance in the spring show. They are also very excited for their upcoming field trip to the Herr s Chip Factory and the Energized for Education event and family picnic which will be held on Friday, May 23rd. Their school year will conclude with a closing program filled with songs, prayers and a recognition of each student and their time as the Student of the Week. Openings still exist in each of our pre kindergarten classrooms. Pre k 3 meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8-11 AM Pre k 4 meets Monday through Friday, half day from 8-11 AM or full day from 8-2:50 PM Modifications to the schedule are possible.
