May 2018 Visit us online: Cross Point Baptizes 5 in April! Cross Point had reason to celebrate in April as five individuals were baptized! On April 22, Cross Point baptized three adults and two children. These individuals accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life and were following in obedience with the ordinance of baptism. At Cross Point we believe baptism is a celebration of your decision to follow Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Just as the symbols of the wedding and wedding ring are a declaration of a marriage covenant, water baptism is the outward declaration of the covenant you ve made with God. As your church, we want to stand with you as you publicly declare you have made the decision to surrender your life to the Lord. If you would like to be baptized, please contact the church office at: (304) 252-6684 or email: office@beckleycrosspoint.org. Pictured here: Front row left to right: Mia Seiter and Abbie Taylor. Small Group Spotlight Class Name: Friendship Small Group Location: Room 106 (Fourth door down the front education wing) Time: Sunday mornings at 9:45 A.M. Facilitator: Jason Bess The friendship small group uses different study guides in an open discussion type setting to apply the Word of God to equip our lives to be light bearers in our homes and neighborhoods. We pray for one another, we encourage one another, and most of all we love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. We are a group that has come together from different backgrounds and generations offering many different insights into our discussions where Jesus is the Subject. What Jesus taught on the Kingdom of God and how it applies to our lives today is the centerpiece of our group. We warmly invite you to join us where you will feel welcomed and engaged. Pictured above: Jason Bess, facilitator of the Friendship Sunday School Small Group. Class Name: Faithful Adventurers Location: Conference Room Time: Sunday mornings at 9:45 A.M. Facilitators: Chris Graham & Tara Cogar The Faithful Adventurers class does a weekly Bible study based on the Wesley Bible Curriculum. We are a very informal group. We encourage open discussions and we will also deviate from the planned bible study to do different classes that the group is interested in. We have done a study on how to witness to different religions. Our small group has become close and we try to have fun, and we are supportive of each other. A few of our members decided to go sky diving, and the rest of us stayed on the ground and prayed for their safety! But also, we do our best to welcome newcomers to our group and make them feel welcome. As a small group we share life experiences, and we use what we learn from God s word to help us through everyday life. We also try to fellowship outside of church, we have had cook outs, or we may decide to take our Sunday school time and go to a nearby restaurant to have class. We are always looking for not only new members, but new friends, and we hope you will come and add to our small group. Pictured above: Chris Graham and Tara Cogar (photo at right), facilitators of the Faithful Adventurers small group. Mother s Day at Cross Point May 13 is Mother s Day and Cross Point will be celebrating mothers on this special day. Each woman in attendance will have a chance to win a Pampered Lady gift that includes a $110.00 gift certificate to Shear Style. We will give away one Pampered Lady gift during each service. We will also have a special gift for the oldest mother in each service. You will not want to miss this special day as we honor moms. Women s Book Club The Cross Point Women s Book Club will meet May 15th at 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Room. The book for this month is The Impossible Possible by Joyce Smith with Ginger Kolbaba. This book is a true story about a 14 year old boy who drown and was clinically dead for one hour. Miraculously, his heart began to beat again just as his mother called out to God to come and breathe life back into her son. Each chapter of the book will amaze you as you realize the child defies every prediction regarding his living and the quality of life he will have following this lengthy time period of being clinically dead. The book has a powerful message about when you combine prayer with unshakeable faith, nothing is impossible. The discussion about this book will be facilitated by India Hosch and promises to challenge your thoughts about the power of prayer. Copies of the book are available in the church office. Please think about joining us for the discussion about faith, prayer and the power of God we promise you won t be disappointed! Touch LIFE Prayer Ministry Sunday Touch LIFE is a prayer ministry of Cross Point Church that strategically prays for people who do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life. Names are submitted to the ministry to be regularly prayed for. Since the ministry began, many who have been prayed for have come to know Jesus. Touch LIFE meets on the first Sunday of each month at 8:30 A.M. in Room 105 for a concerted time of prayer for those whose names have been shared that need to know Christ as their savior. On Sunday May 6, during both of our morning worship services, we will have Touch LIFE Sunday. On this special day we will highlight this ministry and give you an opportunity to share names of those you know who don t have a relationship with Jesus. You will hear testimonies of lives that have been changed and how you can get involved in being a prayer warrior for Christ. You will not want to miss this special Sunday in May! Special Thanks from Cassie Newman Dear Cross Point Church Family, I would like to express my gratitude to all of those who blessed me with prayers, cards, texts, phone calls, flowers, and gifts during my chemo treatments. I am so blessed to be part of such a loving and giving fellowship! Blessings, Cassie Newman May 2018 3

Feet Washing is a Special Time at Cross Point The Wednesday before Easter is always a special time at Cross Point as we participate in the ordinances of feet washing and communion. This is a special time when we reflect upon our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Where does feet washing come from? In the gospel of John, we find an account of Jesus washing each of His disciple s feet at the Last Supper. John 13:1-17 mentions Jesus performing this act. Following the customs of the time, it was not necessary for Jesus to clean the disciple s feet because they would have already been washed by a servant when they entered the Upper Room. Jesus choice to wash the feet was to make a point about humble service towards others. This was a strange time for the disciples because they had been arguing over who was the greatest one among them while waiting for Jesus arrival. Instead of tending to each other, they were comparing and competing. When Jesus stepped in to wash their feet, all the disciples were stunned into silence. Peter was profoundly against the Lord washing his feet, to which Jesus responded unless I wash you, you have no part with me (John 13:8). This allowed Peter to be accepting of Jesus humility and love. Participating in the feet washing service can be very humbling and emotional as we think of Jesus doing the very same thing for His disciples. May we always be reminded to demonstrate the same kind of humility and servant s heart Jesus demonstrated to those around Him. Photos at right: a few shots of the men of Cross Point participating in feet washing. During feet washing the men and woman go to separate areas to share and participate. Preteen Small Group Enjoys Cooking The Preteen Sunday School Small Group is for students in grades 4 through 6 and meets at 9:45 AM in the Kitchen. The class is commonly referred to as the cooking class as we usually cook breakfast during the class. The students enjoy learning basic cooking skills while learning about Jesus. Students who are finishing up 3rd grade will be able to come to the class on the move up day in the summer. In the photos below the students made applesauce pancakes and as always we had fresh fruit. We talked about our personal relationship with Jesus as we enjoyed our pancakes and fruit. (Photos by Sandy Harper). Breakthrough Gathering (Students in Grades 4-8) Students in grades 4-8 are invited to Breakthrough on May 6. Time: 5:30-8:00 PM Breakthrough is a special time for students in grades 4th-8th. We play games, learn from the Bible, and more! Breakthrough is designed to help students transition from Adventure Alley Children s Ministry to the Youth Ministry. May 2018 7

Gifted 2 Serve Ephesians 4:11 tells us everyone is gifted to serve. When we discover our unique gifts and put them into action, great things are accomplished for God! We challenge everyone who calls Cross Point their home to get involved in serving. Serving at your church has a number of benefits. First, you are helping to make an eternal difference in the lives of others. You are helping to reach the lost, train disciples, and truly impact our community. Second, serving helps you grow in your own faith. As you become involved in serving, you develop a closer relationship with God and others. Step one: Discover your unique gifts. Each of us have unique gifts we can use to serve God. Cross Point has a handy tool to help you discover these gifts. Simply go to: Beckleycrosspoint.org and click on the Spiritual Gifts Link. Answer a few questions and you will receive a report showing you the areas you are most gifted. Cross Point will also receive a report of your giftedness. Step Two: Get involved. After we receive your gift report someone will contact you to discuss opportunities to serve using your gifts. It s then up to you to make the decision to serve to make an eternal impact. Third, there is an interesting statistic that says for every person involved in serving, the church will grow by 4 people. We have found this to be true. How does this work? Serving builds excitement about your church and you begin sharing that with those around you your family, friends, coworkers, and others. You want people to experience the same excitement you experience and that excitement is contagious. God is truly able to do big things when we all join together to make an impact. There is a place for you to serve at Cross Point. Here s how you can get involved: Do you have the Cross Point App? Download it today! May 2018 8

We regularly post news, pictures, and more to our facebook page. Be sure to check it out and click like to receive these updates. Cross Point s facebook page can be found at: facebook.com/beckleycrosspoint Prayer Chain Prayer is a powerful tool we have as Christians. As a church family we can help lift each other up in prayer. One way we do this at Cross Point is through our Prayer Chain. The prayer chain is a group of people who have opted in to receive prayer requests. When an urgent prayer request is received, it is sent to this group using our church notification system. Each member then receives the request so they can begin praying for the need. Individuals who would like to be added to the prayer chain should contact Justin Davis in the church office at (304) 252-6684. To submit a prayer request, follow this procedure: Monday-Thursday 9:00a.m. 3:00p.m.: Call the church office at: (304) 252-6684. All other times, call Justin Davis at (304) 575-2363. If no answer, leave a message and Justin will put it on the prayer chain as soon as possible. Rent A Youth Is there a job on your to do list that you just don t have time or you don t want to do? Why not rent one of our youth to help with your chores? Money raised from Rent A Youth helps our youth attend various youth activities. If you are interested in renting one or more of our youth, see Pastor Rob. Don t Throw Away Those Cans! The youth ministry has been collecting aluminum cans to be recycled to raise money to support youth activities.
