The Five Weeks in Lent: A Summary Dear Friends in Christ, Back by popular demand, I, along with Fr. Langan, will devote our Lenten Sunday homilies to the central question: What happens at Mass? As a supplement to this homily series, I would like to remind you of the free online Catholic website we provide to our parishioners titled Formed. You can enter this site either through our website or at Formed.org. When registering for the first time, please use our parish code: B6BAKH. Under the Study heading on the main page of the website, you will find two different video presentations on the Mass: One is titled Symbolon-Living the Faith and the other is titled Lectio- The Eucharist. I highly recommend these two programs. Each video lasts about 12 minutes. During these five weeks of Lent, we will also be hosting Fr. Bill Garrott, OP, for a Lenten Mission, as well as participating in the Archdiocesan wide Archbishop s Annual Appeal. The theme for this year s appeal is: Together in Mission. For the remainder of this column, let me highlight the particular focus for the five Sundays of Lent. Week One, February 17-18: Homilies devoted to the Mass: Introductory Rites and Liturgy of the Word. Week Two, February 24-25: Archbishop s Annual Appeal message played at all Masses with in-pew pledge process to support not only the Archdiocese of Baltimore, but our parish as well. Week Three, March 3-4: Fr. Bill Garrott, OP, preaches at all Masses to prepare us for the Lenten Mission he will be leading. Seminarian Daniel Andrades will speak after Communion at all of the Masses regarding the impact of the Archbishop s Annual Appeal in support of priestly formation. Chicken Dinner, March 4th: 11:30am doors open for carry-out, dining room opens at noon. Parish Lenten Mission begins at 7:00pm on March 4th Please invite a friend- see bulletin for more details. Week Four, March 10-11: Homilies devoted to the Mass: Liturgy of the Eucharist Week Five, March 17-18: Homilies devoted to the Mass: Tying it all together My prayer for all of you is that you experience God the Father s mercy this Lent and that you learn something new about the Mass through this homily series. St. Anselm the Great referred to the journey of Christian discipleship as Faith seeking understanding. May your faith in the Lord grow even as your understanding and appreciation for what happens at Mass deepens through our study of the Mass. In Christ,

Thank you St. Joseph, for welcoming me. It has been such a blessing to serve you over the past year and a half. I am excited to announce that I will be beginning a new chapter of my life as the Media Content Specialist for the Diocese of Metuchen in New Jersey. My last day at St. Joseph Church will be February 23. My last event as the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will be February 22. It is the SJYM Service Event with the Rosary Guild. It will take place in room 2/3, which is downstairs in the Parish Center. One of my favorite Bible chapters is Isaiah 43: See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? (Isaiah 43:19). God works in ways we do not expect. I will greatly miss this community. I will especially miss the teens of this community who I have come to know. Teens, you have challenged me to continue to seek God as I have served you. Thank you for being His light to this world. You all have left your mark on my heart. I will miss you so much and I will be praying for you every day. I also want to encourage you to continue to seek God and see how he is calling you to Leave Your Mark on this world by continuing to be involved in this parish. You are all in my prayers. ADVERTISE Call: 410-578-3600 for more information Excerpt from Fr. Joe Breighner s More Reflections Along A Country Road Good Example The most effective way we share our scriptures, our understanding of the sacraments, our prayer life and our image of God, is by how we live. As someone has profoundly put it, People may not always believe what you say, but they will always believe what you do. So our effort is to live as Jesus asked us to live when He gave the criteria for entering the kingdom of God, I was hungry and you fed me; thirsty and you gave me something to drink; naked and you clothed me; in prison and you visited me; a stranger and you took me in Put simply, the best way to show our belief in God is To Order A Copy of Fr. Joe Breighner s Book through the sermon of our lives. Send $10.00 plus $4.50 for postage & handling to When we treat the least person the way we treat God, FATA P.O. Box 4889 Baltimore, MD 21211 then we become believable and God becomes visible.
