FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT ALL ARE WELCOME Whether you are young or old, rich or poor, doubtful or hopeful no matter where you are in your faith journey, YOU are welcome here. For those with children, be assured that noises and wiggling are signs of a church that is alive and growing; your entire family is welcome in worship. ORDER OF WORSHIP FEBRUARY 14, 2016 Prelude Largo in F Major G.F. Handel Welcome to The Peoples Church! Call to Worship Rev. Drew Filkins Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: O Wise God You have come to us in the form of a vulnerable child; You teach us that the last are first and the first, last; You lead us on a Way to new life that leads through death. Truly your wisdom is different than ours! Meet us in this place and teach us your foolish wisdom and your vulnerable power; give us joy to receive it fully and courage to live it foolishly, through Jesus Christ, your wisdom and word. Amen. Gathering Hymn God is Calling Through the Whisper No. 410 (Please stand if able.) Prayer of Confession (Inspired by Mark 10:17-31) Lord, we look for you in the wrong places. We put our trust in material things. We worry about things we cannot change. We wonder if you are even there at all. For all the times we have doubted you, Lord, forgive us. For all the ways we have neglected your word and ignored your people, forgive us. Do not be far from us, Lord. There is no one else we can turn to for help. Renew our fickle hearts and help us put our trust in you. Amen.

Sung Assurance of Pardon Hear the Good News of Salvation (Verse 1) No. 441 Hear the Good News of salvation: Jesus died to show God s love. Such a great kindness! Such a great mercy! Come to us from heaven above. Jesus Christ, how much I love you! Jesus Christ, you save from sin! How I love you! Look upon me. Love me still and cleanse within. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

ACTS FROM JERUSALEM TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH THE PEOPLES CHURCH LENTEN SCRIPTURE STUDY 2016 The Acts of the Apostles is the second installment of Luke s two-volume work.
