Discernment Tool for The Address: CIC P.O. Box 26127 St. Louis Park, MN 55426 (952) 935-3100 Go to www.cicministry.org for more information Since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ s body, let s just go ahead and be what we were made to be. Romans 12:5 (MSG) P. 250 The Bible says, Don t act thoughtlessly, but try to find out and do whatever the Lord wants you to. Ephesians 5:17 (LB) Paul advised, Try to have a sane estimate of your capabilities. Romans 12:3b (Ph) so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Romans 12:5 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. Romans 12:3 P. 151 Paul advised, Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. b (MSG) Page 1 of 5

Discernment Tool for The P. 252 Moses told the Israelites, Remember today what you have learned about the LORD through your experiences with him. Deuteronomy 11:2 (TEV) Know this day that I am not speaking with your sons who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of the LORD your God--His greatness, His mighty hand and His outstretched arm, Deuteronomy 11:2 He said, Were all your experiences wasted? I hope not! Galatians 3:4 (NCV) You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand. John 13:7 (NIV) The Bible says, What right have you, a human being, to cross-examine God? The pot has no right to say to the potter: Why did you make me this shape? Surely a potter can do what he likes with the clay! Romans 9:20-21 (JB) Did you suffer so many things in vain- -if indeed it was in vain? Galatians 3:4 Jesus answered and said to him, "What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter." John 13:7 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? 21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? Romans 9:20-21 Christ has given each of us special abilities-whatever he wants us to have out of his rich storehouse of gifts. Ephesians 4:7 (LB) But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. Ephesians 4:7 Page 2 of 5

Discernment Tool for The P. 253 He said, Our goal is to stay within the boundaries of God s plan for us. 2 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT) But we will not boast beyond our measure, but within the measure of the sphere which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even as far as you. 2 Corinthians 10:13 run with patience the particular race that God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1 (LB) Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1 The Bible says, Be sure to do what you should, for then you will enjoy the personal satisfaction of having done your work well, and you won t need to compare yourself to anyone else. (NLT) Do your own work well, and then you will have something to be proud of. But don t compare yourself with others. (CEV) P. 254 He said, We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12 (NIV) For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding. 2 Corinthians 10:12 Page 3 of 5

Discernment Tool for The Paul told the Philippians to keep on growing in your knowledge and understanding. Philippians 1:9 (NLT) Kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you. 2 Timothy 1:6 () P. 255 Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. Matthew 25:28 (NIV) Paul told Timothy, Be sure to use the abilities God has given you Put these abilities to work. 1 Timothy 4:14-15 (LB) And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, Philippians 1:9 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 2 Timothy 1:6 `Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.' Matthew 25:28 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. 15 Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. 1 Timothy 4:14-15 Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won t be ashamed of. 2 Timothy 2:15 (MSG) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You re after one that s gold eternally. 1 Corinthians 9:25 (MSG) Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 1 Corinthians 9:25 Page 4 of 5

Discernment Tool for The P. 256 Verse to Remember: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 Page 5 of 5
