Introduction Questia is a service that allows users to view articles and books on a variety of subjects. The Questia MindApp enables students and instructors to access Questia accounts through MindTap. Instructors can create projects in Questia and add them to the MindTap Learning Path. Audience This document explains the instructor workflow to DSCs who assist course instructors. Objectives This document explains how to complete the following procedures: Find Questia content Save content to projects Create projects Edit projects Use the Writing Center Add Questia Activities to MindTap. Using the App dock Instructors can access Questia from the App dock. Finding a Questia Activity The following section explains how to find a Questia Activity using the MindTap App doc. Searching for Questia Activities Use the following procedure to find Questia information using the Search function: 1 Open the Questia App from the App dock. Result: The Questia service agreement displays. NOTE: The service agreement displays the first time users log in to Questia. Using Questia in MindTap Page 4
2 Select the I agree to the terms and conditions check box. Click Start using Questia for MindTap. Result: The Questia MindApp displays. Using Questia in MindTap Page 5
3 Click Keywords to view advanced search options.. Result: Advanced search options display. 4 Enter the search term in the search bar. Click the magnifying glass icon. Result: Search results display. 5 Optional: Add additional terms in the search bars on the left. Using Questia in MindTap Page 6
6 Optional: Select Overview. Result: An overview displays. 7 Select Read to view the full book or Save to active project to save it. Result: A Questia Reader dialog box displays. NOTE: The dialog box displays the first time instructors access a reading each session. Using Questia in MindTap Page 7

Browsing the Library Use the following procedure to find Questia information by browsing the library: 1 Click Library. Result: A list of topics displays. 2 Select a topic. Result: Topics display. 3 Select a subcategory. Result: Books and articles on the topic display. Using Questia in MindTap Page 9

Navigating a Reading Use the following procedure to navigate a reading: 1 Use the left and right arrows to navigate the reading. Result: Additional parts of the reading display. 2 Click the Project items icon. Result: Saved items display. NOTE: Any edits save automatically in the Project folder. 3 Click the note icon to add a note to the reading. Result: The note displays. 4 Click the quote icon to cite the page. Using Questia in MindTap Page 12
5 Click the beginning and end of a passage to create highlights. Select a color to highlight. 6 Click the beginning and end of a passage to cite the specific passage. 7 Click the bookmark icon to bookmark the page. Using Questia in MindTap Page 13
8 Click the list icon to view the Table of contents. 9 Click the Settings icon to edit font settings. 10 Click the magnifying glass icon to search for a word or phrase within the book or article. Using Questia in MindTap Page 14
11 Click the eye icon to look up words in a dictionary or thesaurus. 12 Click the print icon to print the page. 13 Click the full screen icon to extend the article to the full screen. NOTE: Full screen refers to the window in the App dock, not the full screen. Using Questia in MindTap Page 15
Questia Projects Add books or articles to different projects that you create. Creating Projects When you enter Questia for the first time, the Active project is Default project. Use the following procedure to create your own project: 1 Open the Questia App from the App dock. Result: The Questia service agreement displays. 2 Click Projects. Result: The projects display. 3 Click Create a new project. Result: A new project folder displays. 4 Enter a name for the project. Click Save. Result: The new project displays as the Active project. Using Questia in MindTap Page 17
Moving Articles and Books between Projects Instructors can move articles and books between projects using this procedure: 1 Open the Questia MindApp from the App dock. Result: The Questia App displays. 2 Click Projects. Result: The projects folder displays. Using Questia in MindTap Page 18
3 Select a project. Result: The project folder displays readings and annotations. 4 Select the check box next to an article or book. Result: The book or article is selected. Using Questia in MindTap Page 19
5 Click Move to move the content to another project. Result: A dropdown menu displays. 6 Select the project you want the content. Click Move. Result: The content displays in the new folder. Using Questia in MindTap Page 20
7 Click Copy to copy the content to a different project. Result: A dropdown menu displays. 8 Select the project you want the content. Click Copy. Result: The content is in the new folder. Using Questia in MindTap Page 21
9 Select the article to delete. Click Delete. Result: A confirmation message displays. 10 Click Delete. Result: The content deletes from the project. Using Questia in MindTap Page 22
Creating Bibliographies Use the following procedure to create bibliographies through Questia: 1 Open the Questia App from the App dock. Result: The Questia service agreement displays. 2 Click Projects. Result: The projects display. Using Questia in MindTap Page 23
3 Select a project. Result: The project displays. 4 Select a reading. Click Create bibliography. Result: The Bibliography style dialog box displas. 5 Select the style and click Create. Result: The bibliography displays. Using Questia in MindTap Page 24
6 Optional: Output the bibliogarphy Click Save. OR Click Export to MS Word. Result: The bibliography saves or exports to Microsoft Word. Deleting projects Use the following procedure to delete a project: 1 Navigate to the Projects section in Questia. Using Questia in MindTap Page 25
2 Click the settings icon next to the project to delete. Result: Settings display. 3 Click Delete. Result: A warning displays. 4 Click Delete. Result: You deleted the project. Questia Tutorials You can view Questia Tutorials using the following procedure: 1 Navigate to the Questia App. Using Questia in MindTap Page 26

4 Select the link to view a tutorial. Result: The tutorial displays. Writing Center Use the Questia Writing Center tab for help generating thesis statements, outlines, research topics and bibliographies. Export Writing Center material as Microsoft Word documents or PDFs. Writing Center materials save in the My Papers section. 1 Navigate to the Questia App. 2 Click WRITING CENTER. Topic Finder Use the Topic Finder tab to find and research topics for essays. 1 Click Topic finder. Result: The Topic finder displays. 2 Optional: Enter keywords to search the Questia library for topics. Click Search. Result: The Questia library displays. 3 Click Topic idea generator to view possible paper topics. Result: The Topic idea generator displays. 4 Select a subject from the drop-down menu to narrow the results. Click SPIN. Research Use the Research tab to search the library for primary and secondary works as sources for essays and research papers. Go to Browsing the Library to use the Questia library. Thesis Use the Thesis tab for help creating a thesis statement for essays and research papers. 1 Click Thesis. Result: The Create thesis statement page displays. 2 Click Thesis Statement Starter. 3 Select a thesis format. Click Next. Enter the information related to the topic and supporting arguments. Click Finish. Result: The thesis statement displays in the Thesis tab. Using Questia in MindTap Page 33

1 Click Outline. Result: The Questia Writing Center Outline Tool displays. 2 Optional: Select Start with a template to use a pre-existing template to customize it for the paper. 3 Select Try the Outline Starter to walk you through step by step. Result: The Outline Starter displays. 4 Click Get Started. Result: The Introduction tab displays. 5 Complete the Introduction tab as follows: Enter an introduction and thesis statement. Click Import your saved thesis statement (if one exists). Click Next. Bibliography Use the Bibliography tab to generate a Works Cited page for essays. 1 Click Bibliography. Result: The Create your bibliography page displays. 2 Select a project folder. 3 Select the readings to cite. Click Create bibliography. Result: The Bibliography style dialog box displays. 4 Select a Bibliography style. Click Create. Result: A bibliography generates Using Questia in MindTap Page 40
5 Optional: Output the bibliography. Click Save. OR Click Export to MS Word. Write my Paper Result: The bibliography saves or exports to Microsoft Word. Export the topic, thesis statement, outline and bibliography to a Microsoft Word document or PDF using the following procedure: Using Questia in MindTap Page 41

3 Complete the information to export: Select the items to export Select a file format. Click Export. My Papers Result: The items export to a Microsoft Word document or PDF. Store topics, thesis statement, outlines and bibliographies in the My Papers section. Use the My Papers section to resume work on a current paper, access previous papers or create new papers. Adding a Questia Activity to a MindTap Course This section shows instructors how to add Questia articles and books as Activities in a MindTap course. Adding Questia Content from a Project Instructors can access all Questia features by adding Activities to the Learning Path in the same way as they do in the App dock. The best practice is to find the content in the App dock and save it to a project folder. NOTE: Instructors can add Activities from either their project folder or the Questia Library. Distinct Activity Use the following procedure to add a Questia Activity to the Learning Path: 1 Click the + icon. Select Add Activity. Result: The Activity List displays. 2 Select Questia. Result: Questia displays. 3 Find the book or article to add from the projects folder or Questia Library. Click the book or article to open it in the reader. Using Questia in MindTap Page 45
4 Click Add to MindTap. Result: Assignment properties display. NOTE: The Add to MindTap button links to the page specified page in the Reader view. Inline Activities Use this procedure to add Questia to readings inline 1 Navigate to the location you want to add the Activity. Click the Edit icon. Result: Add Activity icons display. 2 Click the plus icon in the location to add the reading. Using Questia in MindTap Page 47
3 Select Questia. Result: Questia displays. 4 Find the book or article to add from your projects folder or Questia Library. Click the book or article to open it in the reader. Using Questia in MindTap Page 48
5 Click Add to MindTap. Result: Assignment properties display. NOTE: The Add to MindTap button links to the page you are on from the Reader view. If you find the book or article through the search menu, it links to page one. 6 Complete the fields. Click Save. Result: The Activity displays in the Reading. Using Questia in MindTap Page 49
7 Click the Edit icon. Result: The Reading no longer displays in editing mode. Conclusion The Questia MindApp enables students and instructors to access their Questia accounts through MindTap. Students can research topics and use the Writing Center to help organize papers and essays. Instructors can create projects in Questia to share readings to MindTap courses.
