Biamonte Introduction to the Liturgy of the Day On this day set aside to remember all the saints of the Lord, we recall that we who live on this earth today are but one part of a church that extends back through the centuries and forward to the end of time. Just as many of our churches have images of saints surrounding them, we are surrounded by the communion of saints, whose lives are a shining example of encouragement for us. THE SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS DAY All Soul s Day November 2 nd Traditionally, the month of November has been dedicated to prayer for the happy and peaceful repose of the souls of the faithful departed. All Souls Day, November 2 nd, has been set aside in particular to commemorate our deceased relatives and friends. Our Catholic faith calls us to pray on behalf of those who have gone before us in death. How good it is to remember before the Lord at Mass, the souls of those dear to us who have died. This is true on All Souls Day and throughout the year. An All Souls Remembrance envelope has been included in your envelope packet; others are available at the entrances to the Church. Kindly return them to Church today. Our dearly departed will be remembered at our parish on All Souls Day and throughout the month of November. Remember those who have gone before us Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed Monday, November 2 nd marks the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 AM. During this month of November, we are called to remember in a special way all those who have died. On Sunday, November 1 st, and through the end of November, a Book of the Names of the Dead, will be available near the baptismal font so the names of the deceased family members and friends may be recorded. These individuals (those recorded in years past along with the new names added this year) will be remembered before the Lord during November. Northwest Catholic Open House Northwest Catholic High School will administer its entrance exam on Saturday, November 14 th, and Saturday, December 5 th, at 8 AM. You can apply and register for the exam by going to www.northwestcatholic.org/apply. Please contact Andrew Selig at aselig@nwcath.org with any questions. Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center (West Hartford) will present How to be Positively Stressed on Saturday, November 7 th, from 10 AM until 5 PM. Ken Steller will help you identify the differences between positive stress, distress, and burnout and create a personal action plan for being Positively stressed. $65 includes lunch. Please visit holyfamilyretreat.org or call 860-521-0440 for more information. A Family Perspective In a family children are taught to be respectful, if they want to be respected; to share, if they want their fair share; and to listen if they want to be heard. Family life rescues us from arrogance by teaching us to love others as we love ourselves. ~Bud Ozar First Friday Holy Hour Office of the Dead On Friday November 6 th, there will be exposition and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at Saint Joseph Church from 7:00 until 8:00 PM. During the month of November we remember those who have died, so during the Holy Hour the Office of the Dead will be prayed. The Office of the Dead is that part of the Liturgy of the Hours appropriated for prayers for the souls of deceased individuals. As part of the Liturgy of the Hours, it is like an extension of the Eucharistic celebration which in a complementary way calls forth the various devotions of the People of God, especially adoration and worship of the Blessed Sacrament. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1178). Praying the Office of the Dead affords us the opportunity to deepen our relation with the Risen Lord by joining with clergy, the religious and other lay people in liturgy, the public prayer of the Church. Copies of the Office of the Dead will be available. Congratulations to the following couple, who celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage at Saint Joseph Parish on Saturday, October 24, 2015 Emma Higgins and Jonathan McGlynn Social Action Corner Monthly Food Collection Bags will be available next weekend for the November food collection.
