Joseph loved and followed God, yet he was sold into slavery, accused of doing wrong things, and thrown into prison. God works for the good of those who love him, but how did he work good things through all of Joseph s ups and downs? Join us as we search for clues, discover evidence, and reveal the truth behind God s amazing faithfulness to Joseph. All the trouble began with a fantastic, beautiful coat. It was a gift for Joseph from his father, but it made his ten older brothers jealous. In their anger, they threw Joseph into a pit and sold him to be a slave. This week, we ll investigate how God demonstrated that he was still working in Joseph s life even when everything around him seemed to be going terribly wrong. Lesson 2: The Clue of the Careful Caretaker Things were looking up for Joseph! As a slave, he was put in charge of an important official s house and was known as a trustworthy and good person. With all that power, it would have been very easy for Joseph lie, cheat, or steal. This week, we ll see how God helped Joseph make the right choice, even when that may not have been an easy thing to do. Lesson 3: The Clue of the Caring Companion It has been a rollercoaster ride for Joseph. Without doing anything wrong, he went from slave to prisoner. Joseph may have felt lonely in prison, but God showed him that he was never really alone. Even in prison, God helped Joseph do his best. When two of the other prisoners had strange dreams, God helped Joseph understand them. We ll investigate the evidence and discover that God can help us no matter where we are. Lesson 4: The Clue of the Cautious Commander When Joseph was summoned by Pharaoh, it was his chance to be free. If he did what Pharaoh said, he might finally get out of prison. Pharaoh asked if he could understand dreams, and Joseph said no. Why would he say that? Joseph knew that it s God who can interpret dreams, and Joseph needed wisdom from God to give Pharaoh good advice. God gave Joseph wisdom and brought more good things into his life. God wants to give us wisdom too! : The Clue of the Captured Cup Joseph was now second in command of Egypt. He was a big deal. When his brothers came to Egypt asking for food, it looked like Joseph s chance to get back at them for the terrible things they did to him. However, Joseph knew about something more powerful than simply trying to get even. This week, we ll see how God worked through Joseph s ups and downs and taught him about the power of forgiveness. Opening Song 3:00 (Roll when directed) Kid O Deo Theme Song Video (Auto advance) Kid O Deo Slide Welcome 3:00 Hi Kid Os! Welcome to Kid O Deo! My name is, and I am so glad you are all here today. We are going to have a lot of fun! We will be singing some songs, learning a Bible Memory Verse, and hearing an awesome story. First, let s go over the rules we have in Kid O Deo. Rule #1: When I m talking, you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Now that we all know the rules, I think we re ready to get started. We are going to become detectives and look for clues to catch so we can fill up our Clue Catching Board! Do This: Point to the Clue Catching Board. Last week we solved a case by learning that God can help us make good or wise choices by giving us wisdom! Over the past few weeks, we ve heard about a man named Joseph. Joseph got beautiful coat from his dad, but he was sold by his brothers to be a slave. He worked in the country of Egypt, and even though he was a good worker, he got thrown into prison for something he didn t do. Did God help Joseph get out of prison? YES! Yes, and when Joseph got out of prison, he became the leader over all of Egypt. Wow! Value 1:00 5

Today we will discover how God helped Joseph forgive others who had done some mean things to him. To forgive means to stop being mad at a person even if they did something wrong or hurt your feelings. God wants us to forgive too! I m super excited to learn more about God with you. Kid Os, can you repeat this after me? I can learn more about God every day. I CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT GOD EVERY DAY. Great job! Worship 3:00 There s an awesome song we ve been singing for a while now. The word hosanna is in this song a lot, and it means to praise God and show how much we love him. Everyone stand up and let s move our hands and feet as we praise God together! Song 1: Hosanna Rock Bible Adventure 6:00 (Auto advance) Super singing, everyone! You can sit down now. We have a little birdy friend here in Kid O Deo. What s her name? TWEET! You re right, and Tweet has something to tell us. Take a look at the screen! Tweet Mail Video (Auto advance) Kid Os, Tweet sent us a Tweetergram! Let s check our mailbox to see if it s arrived yet. Here it is! Do This: Open the mailbox, take out the letter, and read it out loud. Know This: The letter reads: Dear Junior Detectives, 6

I have a tricky case for you to solve. My squirrel friend knocked my bird s nest out of the tree the other day. I m still mad about it, and I don t know what to do. What can we do when we are mad at someone even if they did something mean on purpose? Sincerely, Tweet Friends, it s time to start our detective work! We re going to fill up our Clue Catching Board with clue cards to help Tweet find out what we can do when we re mad at someone. Before we find our first card, we need some extra clue catching gear. I have some gear here, but all of you have super special imaginary gear. As I get my gear, make sure to use your imagination so you can get yours too! Know This: If having the teacher wear/hold the gear is too much of a distraction, simply have the teacher wear/use imaginary gear along with the Kid Os. Gear picture: detective cap, briefcase, magnifying glass So, let s all put on our clue catching caps Do This: Put on cap. open up our big briefcases Do This: Open briefcase. and take out our mighty magnifying glasses. Do This: Take out and look through magnifying glasses. Magnifying glasses help small things look bigger! Now that I have my clue catching cap on, I remember that there was also a package inside our mailbox. I wonder if that will help us figure out our first clue! Do This: Take the package containing the grain and the first clue card from the mailbox and open it. Hold up the grain. Clue Card #1: Grain Detectives, can you use your mighty magnifying glasses to look at our clue? This is grain! Grain is a food that grows from the ground and can be made in to bread or other things. Our first clue card with a picture of grain was inside this package too. Do This: Put the clue card on the board. 7

We have our first clue! This clue has something to do with an adventure we like to go on here in Kid O Deo a Bible Adventure! Bible Adventure Jingle Our Bible Adventure should lead us to our second clue too! Do This: Hold up the Bible. Kid Os, are the words and the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL. That is right. The Bible is God s true Word, so we know this story really happened. The story you are about to hear comes from the Bible, but we re going to read it from our storybook. Our story starts where we left off last week, so let s see what happens after Joseph went from being a prisoner to the leader of Egypt! Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave throughout the story. Picture 1: Joseph storing the grain Joseph began his important job of leading the people of Egypt. There were seven years where there was lots of food, which is exactly what Joseph said would happen. Joseph gathered the extra grain and stored it. Grain is food that grows from the ground. There was so much extra grain that Joseph stopped keeping count of it! After seven years with plenty of food, another seven years with very little food began. Remember, Joseph stored up the grain because God told him this was going to happen. Picture 2: Jacob talking to Joseph s brothers People were coming from all over the world to buy grain from Joseph. Jacob, Joseph s dad heard that there was grain in Egypt. He didn t know Joseph was there, but his family needed food. Jacob told his sons to go to Egypt to buy grain. So, Joseph s 10 older brothers set out for a journey to Egypt. Do you remember what Joseph s brothers did to him many years earlier? THREW HIM IN A PIT/SOLD HIM. They threw him into a pit and sold him to be a slave. Picture 3: Joseph s brothers asking Joseph for food 8

Joseph s brothers had done some very mean things to him, and they did not know that Joseph was working as the ruler of Egypt. When the brothers got to Egypt, they went to Joseph to ask him for grain. The brothers didn t know who Joseph was, but Joseph recognized his brothers. Joseph didn t tell them that he was their brother though. He gave them grain to bring back home to their families, but he told them to come back to Egypt with their youngest brother, Benjamin. Picture 4: Silver up in a sack of grain Soon Jacob s family needed more food, so Jacob let his sons, including Benjamin, go to Egypt to buy more grain. This time Joseph sent them home with grain, but he had a silver cup put in Benjamin s sack to make it look like the cup had been stolen. Joseph sent one of his workers to get the cup and bring it back to him along with Benjamin. Can you pretend to find a silver cup and hold it up high? The other brothers were very upset because it looked like their youngest brother was in a lot of trouble. Picture 5: Joseph telling his brothers who he is The brothers all came back to see Joseph again. One of Joseph s brothers said that he would take the punishment for the stolen cup, because he wanted Benjamin to be able to go home to their father. Joseph knew it was time to tell his brothers who he was. He said, I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into slavery in Egypt. His brothers were probably very confused and afraid. Joseph told them not to be afraid because God s plan was to have Joseph go to Egypt so he could be a leader there. Then, Joseph told his brothers to get his dad and their families and to come live near him so he could take care of them. Picture 6: Joseph hugging his dad and the family in the background The brothers went home and told Jacob, their dad, that Joseph was alive and was the ruler over Egypt. How do you think Jacob felt when he heard that Joseph was OK? HAPPY! EXCITED! Joseph s brothers, their families, and Jacob returned to Egypt to see Joseph. Jacob was so happy to see his son, Joseph, and now the whole family was back together again. Even though Joseph s brothers had done some terrible things to him, he chose to forgive them and show them kindness. It was probably hard for Joseph to do this at first, but God was with Joseph and helped him make the choice to forgive. Awesome job listening to our story, Kid Os! Wait a minute what s this? Do This: Turn the last page in the book to reveal clue card #2. 9

Clue Card #2: Silver cup Our second clue card is in our book! What is this a picture of? A CUP! Yes, it s a picture of a silver cup like the one Joseph had put in Benjamin s sack. Do This: Put the clue card on the board. Remember, to solve Tweet s case, we need to find out what we re supposed to do when someone does something mean to us even if it s on purpose. We ll need to find our last clue to know for sure, but we have some important detective training to do first! Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance Memory Verse) Romans 8:28 We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. God loves when we learn his true words from the Bible. Knowing what the Bible says can help us get to know God better and live the best way! These words from the Bible teach us that God can use all the things in our lives for good if we love and follow him. God used some terrible things that happened to Joseph to help him become the leader of Egypt so he could save many people! God took the bad things that happened and made good things come out of them, and he can do the same thing for us! Do This: Read the verse from the screen. Everyone stand up because it s time to practice our Bible Memory Verse together! Do This: Practice the memory verse. Great job practicing the Memory Verse and completing this part of our detective training, Kid Os! Worship 2:00 Detectives, please stay on your feet because we have another song to sing! This song is about God s book for us. What s what book called? THE BIBLE! That s right, and Bible is spelled B I B L E. Remember that as we sing! 10

Song 2: The B I B L E Application 4:00 (Auto advance) I really like singing that song with you! You can sit down. A little bit ago, Tweet told us that she needs our help solving a case. She wants to know what we re supposed to do when someone does something mean to us, even if it s on purpose. We ve found two clue cards so far: grain and a silver cup, like the cup Joseph put in his brother s sack of grain so they d have to come back to him. In our Bible Adventure today, Joseph not only gave his brothers grain, but he also told them to move closer to him so he could take care of them. So did he forgive them or stay mad at them? FORGIVE! You re right! We know that God helped Joseph forgive his brothers, but we still need one more clue to find out what to do when someone does something mean to us. Rocky interruption video (Auto advance) Thanks, Rocky! Detectives, Rocky knows where the last clue card is hidden! Take out your magnifying glasses and start looking because our last clue is Do This: Give a hint to where the clue card is hidden and have the Kid Os help you find it. You can make this silly by acting like you can t find it. Kids love being the experts! It could be hidden in a basket, under a book, behind the flower pot, or anywhere else on/near the stage. Great job helping me find our third clue card! Let s put in on our Clue Catching Board. Clue Card #3: Girl knocking over boy s blocks/boy forgiving girl Detectives, it looks like girl in this picture is knocking over this boy s blocks. That s not a nice thing to do, but it looks like the boy forgives his friend for knocking them over. There is a Bible verse written on this clue card too. I ll read it from the Bible, and we can see if it helps us solve our case. Do This: Open the Bible and read Colossians 3:13b 11

Colossians 3:13b Forgive one another if you are holding something against someone. Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you. This verse means that we are supposed to forgive others if we are mad at them. We can forgive by choosing not to be mad at them anymore. God wants us to forgive others, even if they did something mean on purpose. After reading this Bible verse and seeing our last clue, I think we re ready to solve our case. Detectives, when someone does something mean to us, even if it s on purpose, what are we supposed to do? FORGIVE! You re right! God helped Joseph forgive his brothers, and he can help us forgive others too. If your sister breaks your toy by accident, does God want you to forgive her? YES! If your friend calls you mean names on purpose, will God help you forgive him? YES! And just because you choose to forgive someone, it doesn t always mean you have to be good friends with them anymore either. Do you want to know what else is cool? YES! God will forgive us for the things we do wrong if we love and follow him! I m really glad God cares about us so much that he ll forgive us and will help us forgive others too. God is great, he loves you, and he wants what s best for you! Tweet, did we solve the case? Tweet dancing video Tweet is so excited that God will help us forgive! You did an awesome job, detectives. Can you all pick up your big briefcases with me? Do This: Pick up the briefcase and close it as you say the following line. This case is closed! Big Idea 2:00 Big Idea Jingle It s time for our Big Idea, which will help us remember what we learned today. Everyone stand up tall because it s time to check in with our friend, Ranger Ron, who is going to help us practice our Big Idea together! 12

Know This: The Big Idea is, God can help me when I need to forgive. Big Idea Video (Auto advance) Kid O Whampus 2:00 Awesome job! All right Kid Os, stay standing and listen up because I have a question to ask you are you ready to go Kid O Whampus?! Kid O Whampus: Shoes Prayer 1:00 (Auto advance) Let s Pray That was super fun! You can all sit down. Now we re going to spend some time praying to God. God loves each one of you very much, and he knows everything about you. He knows your favorite color, what you ate for breakfast, and even the thoughts you have in your head! While we re praying, you can fold your hands in your lap and close your eyes. If you want, you can echo the words for the prayer after me. Dear God, We love you. Thank you for loving us. Please help us to forgive others. Amen. Kid O Deo Slide It s been great hanging out with you today! Now it s time for you to go back to your classrooms where you will get into groups with your leader and other Kid Os, have a snack, and do a fun activity! See you later! 13
