Leonard Traverso One of the themes in Luke s Gospel is the theme of the poor, which he begins in the second chapter with the shepherds. The life style of shepherds did not allow them to keep the dietary and ritual laws of Jewish society. So, they were a rejected people who were not given social respect. For Luke, shepherds represent all the poor in spirit; all who are grieving, all who are powerless, all who feel the pain rejection; anyone who needs saving love. With profound meaning Luke, chooses shepherds to be the first to see the Christ. These sheep and lambs they were keeping watch over, were the sheep and lambs which would be offered as Passover sacrifices. How symbolic --- these outcast shepherds were the first to see the Lamb of God; the Christ, born to be God s lamb of sacrifice --- offered at the Last Supper and killed on the cross. With openness and humility the shepherds believed the Angels. They did not say, why us? They said, let us go now to see what the Lord has made know to us. Seeing, they knelt and honored the Divine presence where they found him. where they found him. Our souls are the mangers where the risen Christ chooses to be found. May we like the poor and humble shepherds honor the Divine presence of the Christ, where we find him. Without question or doubt, welcome the Lord and his light will shine within you. And you will be a light to others.
FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE SK Julio Galvan There was no Faithful Navigator article submittal for the month of December. FAITHFUL COLOR CORPS COMMANDERS MESSAGE SK Ed Blake Dear Sir Knights: Our activities for the month of November were limited to two. These were the All Souls Day Mass at Calvary Cemetery in San Jose and the flag raising ceremony that opened the Veterans Day festivities at the Milpitas City Hall on Monday, November 11 th. The event, though, that had some significance to it was a required meeting that was called for by Worthy Master JC Greco in Vallejo on Saturday, November 9 th. This meeting was mandatory for all Color Corps Commanders and if they couldn t attend their Faithful Navigator s had to be present. At that meeting, Worthy Master JC Greco made it abundantly clear that the word had come down from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson to the Supreme Master to the Vice-Supreme Masters to the regional Masters to do one thing: CLEAN UP THE COLOR CORPS. Some of the items that I ll be making you aware of will appear in this part of the monthly newsletter. One of the major changes that is going to be enforced is the wearing of the lapel pins. This is the pin that you originally received when you were Exemplified into the Fourth Degree. In addition to this pin, we are authorized to wear the miniaturized version of the American Flag pin above the Pin of the Order. This was authorized by Worthy Master JC Greco. Recently, Supreme authorized the design and distribution of a new combined lapel pin which can be seen below. This pin combined the American flag with the Pin of the Order into one. The rules governing the wearing of this pin were updated at the November 9 th meeting with Worthy Master JC Greco. I share those new rules with you now. a. The combined pin is ONLY to be worn by certified members of the Color Corps. b. NO other non-color Corps member of the 4 th Degree is authorized to wear this pin. c. The combined pin is NEVER to be worn on your civilian shirts, coats, or jackets. d. The wearing of this pin is limited to when you are in regalia with some minor exceptions. e. Worthy Master JC Greco has authorized us to wear the pin when we are out of regalia if we were in the following situations. 1. You are about to participate in an event where you will be in regalia following an earlier event, e.g. what we do at the Memorial Day flag raising ceremony where very
soon afterwards we d be in regalia at the Memorial Day Mass at Calgary Cemetery. 2. You have just completed an event in regalia and have removed your regalia but there is a continuance of an event after the Mass or procession. f. If you are attending an event such as a Past Faithful Navigator s dinner, a banquet, or a patriotic event where you will not be getting into your regalia, then you have to change out the combined pin for the pin of the order and the American flag pin. I ll let everyone attempt to read and digest the above first before delving into other topics that were presented. Next month, shoes. We no longer have two (2) meetings per month. Just one (1). Our meetings take place on the 3 rd Monday of the month unless pre-empted by a Church/Religious activity 7:00 PM Assembly Officers 7:30 PM All Members And, this one I need to put into bold type but we are within 30 days of the 2014 dues notifications going out. Please understand that it costs our Assembly funds to prepare, mail out the invoices, then mail out your 2014 membership cards. I would like to see our next dues exercise be completed without having to mail out 2nd and 3rd notices. As it is plainly written in the invoice letters/statements you receive, if you are having difficulties paying dues, get in touch with me as we can make arrangements. FROM THE BULLETIN EDITOR AND PUBLISHER I m trying out an different format for publishing the bulletin. Microsoft Publisher can be a bit of a pin in the tosh to work with so I m going with a Microsoft Word to PDF format for both the internet version and the printed and mail version. For one thing, I think you ll find this a bit easier to read as I went from Times New Roman 9 pitch font to Microsoft Sans Serif 11 pitch font. PRAYER LIST FOR THE DECEASED PRAYER LIST FOR THE SICK
