NEW CREATION REALITIES PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD The Apostle Paul, by the Holy Spirit, explains God s provision for you to protect you from attacks of the enemy. This is described as a heavily armoured soldier ready for battle. It includes everything you need to be successful, both defensively and offensively, when waging warfare against the enemy. Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: 1
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Amplified Bible Ephesians 6:10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. 11 Put on God s whole armor [the armor of a heavyarmed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. 13 Therefore put on God s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. 14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, 15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. 16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. 2
17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. 18 Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God s consecrated people). Asking God to put the armour on you or praying for someone else to put the armour on you will not work. You have to put on your armour yourself! Colossians 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Amplified Bible Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old (unregenerate) self with its evil practices, 10 And have clothed yourselves with the new [spiritual self], which is [ever in the process of being] renewed and remolded into [fuller and more perfect knowledge upon] knowledge after the image (the likeness) of Him Who created it. Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Amplified Bible Ephesians 4:24 And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness. 3
James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Amplified Bible James 1:21 So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]. Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Amplified Bible Matthew 7:24 So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon the rock. 4
The storms of life come to everyone. Those who obey God s Word are victorious! Wishing, hoping and wanting does not bring victory. Acting on God s Word brings victory! Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. HELPETH takes hold together with us against our infirmities The Holy Spirit is your Comforter and Helper. It is up to you to obey the Word. He does not do it for you; but, He helps you do it. Reasons Why You Should Wear the Whole Armour of God: 1. Wearing the armour enables you to be able to stand against the strategies of the devil. Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 5
WILES strategies traps schemes deceits plans plots methods of operation God wants you to stand against the wiles and attacks of the devil. You must have on your armour to do this! It is your responsibility to put on the armour and stand. In Ephesians 6, Paul mentions standing four times: verse 11 to stand verse 13 to withstand verse 13 to stand verse 14 stand therefore God would not have told you to put on the armour if you did not need it or if He would do it for you. 6
2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. DEVICES wiles intentions 2. Wearing the armour enables you to wrestle effectively against evil powers. Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 names the four ranks (principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places) of evil powers that oppose the progress of the body of Christ. 3. Wearing the armour enables you to withstand the attacks of the devil. Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. The evil day mentioned in Ephesians 6:13 is the day when the devil tests, tries, tempts and attacks you. 7
Living Letters by Kenneth Taylor Ephesians 6:13 So use every piece of God s armor to resist the enemy when he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still be standing up. The devil does not test, try, tempt and attack you every day. God wants you to have on His armour so you will be ready when the devil attacks. You deal with ordinary demons every day; but, Satan plans special strategies and attacks at certain times to come against you. The whole armour of God enables you to be able to withstand these attacks and come through victorious. Attacks from Satan come in two ways through circumstances and through people. The purpose of his attack is to pull you away from the Word of God. He cannot handle the person whose life is based on God s Word. Your reaction in certain circumstances will show whether your faith in God is strong or weak and if your trust is in God or in man s ability. There are six pieces of armour: 1. helmet of salvation 2. breastplate of righteousness 3. shield of faith 4. sword of the Spirit 5. loins girt with truth (belt) 6. feet shod with the gospel of peace (shoes) 8
The Helmet of Salvation Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The book of Ephesians is written to Christians (already born again). The helmet of salvation is having your mind renewed to the Word of God. Your mind is the battleground! Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Romans 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. 9
The Breastplate of Righteousness The breastplate of righteousness is being righteous according to God s standard of righteousness. Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. You are in right-standing with God based on the works of Jesus, not based on your good works and right conduct. Romans 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Righteousness is a gift. You cannot earn it by good works. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 1 Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 10
Amplified Bible Hebrews 5:13 For everyone who continues to feed on milk is obviously inexperienced and unskilled in the doctrine of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action), for he is a mere infant [not able to talk yet]! It is important to get a real understanding of true righteousness. Becoming skilled in the doctrine of righteousness will cause you to grow up spiritually. If you lack an understanding of righteousness, you will live defeated and condemned with a sense of unworthiness and inferiority. 11
The Shield of Faith The shield of faith covers and protects all the other parts of the armour. Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Faith is the victory! Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. It is up to you to fight the good fight of faith. This is the only fight God says to fight! Jesus has already defeated the devil! 12
The Sword of the Spirit, Which is the Word of God Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. WORD (Greek word rhema) say speak confess or declare the same things God s Word declares You are to put the Word of God in your mouth and speak it. When you speak the Word, you are putting yourself in agreement with God. Say what God says! The only offensive piece of armour is the sword of the Spirit, which is speaking God s Word. 2 Corinthians 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak. 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach. 13
Loins Girt About With Truth Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. LOINS emotions affections Putting the Word of God in your heart, mind and mouth will cause your emotions and feelings to unite with it. Speaking and acting on God s Word will enable you to control and keep your emotions in line the way God wants you to. He gave you emotions to enjoy, not to be a hindrance. John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 2 Corinthians 6:12 Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. New International Version 2 Corinthians 6:12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14
Feet Shod With the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace Ephesians 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. 2 Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Have your feet firmly planted on God s Word so nothing can move you from it. The Word of God will give you stability and steadiness to stand strong and do the will of God. It is your responsibility (not God s) to put on the whole armour of God! Being clothed with God s whole armour will protect you from attacks of the enemy and equip you to advance in His plan for your life. There must be a daily and continual inspection in your life to make sure every piece of armour is in place and ready for use. 15
