Happy Thanksgiving from Pope John XXIII Assembly! See us on the web: www.kofca730.org November 2006 FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE The Exemplification was held on Oct.8th and I would like to congratulate and welcome all our new Sir Knights. Just remember that the key ingredient to the success of everything we do is you, the membership, people with positive attitudes who are willing to participate and make a difference. This assembly can only be as good as you, the membership Many thanks to our Commander and his guardsmen for turning out for the Exemplification and for turning out to guard the Relic of St. John Vianney at Cure of Ars R.C. Church in Merrick. I would like to thank our Faithful Captain Ed McKee and his fellow Sir Knights who helped make the hospitality room an enjoyable time by all. I hope to see all at our Thanksgiving meeting at St. Therese Council on Nov.22nd. Fraternally Yours, SK Charles L. When this meeting falls on the night before Thanksgiving, pies, cider, and other goodies are raffled off for the members in attendance. Take Southern State Parkway to exit 13 (Linden Blvd.), At the light, turn left under the overpass. Proceed South on Central Avenue until you reach Merrick Road. Turn right on Merrick Road and drive about a mile. Council should be on your right. Parking is minimal, so try to get there early. Council telephone number s (516) 285-9600. Herbert Barnes Sir Knights, keep in mind there will be an Exemplification this Spring, so keep asking that third degree member at your council.

The Encyclical November 2006 Page Two Proposal, courtesy of PFN Joe Zink Effective with the calendar year 2007, and every year following, all applications for Fourth Degree membership, in Pope John XXIII Assembly, must be accompanied with a $30.00 fee. Until such costs are changed, this fee will continue to represent the cost of only taking the Exemplification. If the candidate wishes to attend the banquet, with or without a guest, he must supply the additional money, to the Faithful Comptroller, no later than June 1, of that calendar year, in order to guarantee a ticket(s) to the banquet. If the additional money is not supplied to the Faithful Comptroller, by June 1, of that calendar year, it will be determined that the candidate does not wish to attend the banquet and will be logged in as only taking the Exemplification. Guests, wishing to attend the banquet, whether or not included in the candidate s application, must also have their requests for tickets be accompanied by the full paid up fee by June 1, of that calendar year. WWW.KOFCA730.ORG Check it out! It s loaded with Assembly items. And if you have items that can t wait until the next Encyclical, send it to SK Brian Ennis at the Assembly website! Congratulations to our winners at the September meeting: Door Prize Faithful Inner Sentinel Winston Delpesh American Flag Honor Guardsman Mike Nass Plan ahead... Membership cards are now available for the 2006-2007 Columbian year. Just $20.00 will pay your dues, and get you next year s card. So while you re reading this, why not submit your dues to your Fourth Degree chairman. He ll save you time by submitting them and get you your membership card. Or if you want to cut out the middleman, mail them yourself to Faithful Comptroller Bert Wengler. This way, you don t have to wait on line at meetings, and you have it done before the Christmas season starts. Make your check payable to Pope John XXIII Assembly And mail to: POPE JOHN XXIII ASSEMBLY KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS C/o Norbert Wengler 30 Ninth Avenue Farmingdale, NY 11735 Faithfully speaking First, I d like to apologize (again) this time for messing up the dates of the Assembly meeting. Won t make that mistake again! To get the Encyclical out in a timely manner for you, the Assembly, please get your articles to me no later than the Executive Meeting, on the Second Wednesday of the month at Catholic War Veterans Hall, Bethpage. As you can see on page five, we once again have the capability to publish photos, so feel free to send photos of the Fourth Degree, too! Our online members made it clear to me they re quite pleased with getting their Encyclical through the e-mail. They like it so much, on fact, they no longer get the Encyclical through snail-mail! With e- mail, they get their Encyclical up to two weeks sooner than with snail mail! As soon as I submit the Encyclical to the printer, I e-mail it to the Assembly members. So far about 5% of the Assembly gets theirs through the e-mail. I don t want you to miss out either, so to get your Encyclical through the e- mail, make sure I have your e-mail address. The more articles I get, the more pages we can publish. Again, I also welcome council articles. And feel free to add the Encyclical to your council s mailing list! The Encyclical November 2006 Page Three RESPECT LIFE (Respectfully Submitted Ed Mc Kee, Faithful Captain, Pro-Life Chairman) Troubling sex education bill advances in Senate Tell your State Senator to oppose this bill. The New York State Senate is considering legislation that would finance a new grant program to allow outside organizations like Planned Parenthood to provide so-called comprehensive sex education programs in public schools to students of all ages. These programs promote all contraceptive methods at undefined "age appropriate" grade levels. ACTION: Call or write your State Senator. SAMPLE LETTER: Date The Honorable New York Senate Albany, NY 12247 Re: Vote "no" on S.5121-C, the "Healthy Teens Act" Dear Senator : I understand that the Senate is now considering legislation (S.5121-C by Spano) that would provide a new funding stream for so-called "comprehensive" sex education in the public schools. Health education and AIDS education are already required in the public schools of New York State. There is no need for more education in human sexuality in the classrooms, as this bill encourages. I am particularly concerned that this bill would provide grants to outside organizations such as Planned Parenthood to come into the classrooms to promote their contraceptive/abortion agenda. I support abstinence education for young people and do not believe that my tax dollars should be steered toward pro-contraception messages in the classrooms. Please vote against S.5121-C when it comes before you for a vote. Thank you for considering my views on this important subject. Sincerely, Election day is around the corner. Know your candidates, who is for the protection of life and who is for the destruction of life, know their voting records, then vote Pro-Life on election day.
