Trinity Lutheran Church ELCA 612 N. Water Street, Sparta, Wisconsin March 25, 2018 Palm Sunday 8.15 am Worship Gathering We begin worship in the Narthex. All are invited to participate in procession. Acclamation The presiding minister begins (repeated three times): Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Processional Gospel: Pastor: The holy gospel according to John Congregation: Glory to you, O Lord. John 12.12-19 Page 875 in the black pew Bible Page 1

Pastor: This is the gospel of the Lord. Congregation: Praise to you, O Christ. Blessing of Palms Pastor: The Lord be with you. Congregation: And also with you. Let us pray. A brief silence is kept. Pastor: We praise you, O God, for redeeming the world through our Savior Jesus Christ. Today he entered the holy city in triumph and was proclaimed messiah and king by those who spread garments and branches along his way. Bless these branches and those who carry them. Grant us grace to follow our Lord in the way of the cross, so that, joined to his death and resurrection, we enter into life with you; through the same Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Procession Let us go forth in peace, in the name of Christ. Amen. *Hymn: Blessed Be the Name of the Lord (Chris Tomlin) Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Congregation: And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray... All: God of honor and celebration: Together we cry, Hosanna! to your son, who rode willingly and bravely into Jerusalem. Word Psalm 24 1The earth is the LORD's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; 2for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. 3Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. 5They will receive blessing from the LORD, and vindication from the God of their salvation. 6Such is the company of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. 7Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. 8Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle. 9Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. 10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Gospel Acclamation: (John 1.38-39, 43) When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, What are you looking for? They said to him, Rabbi, where are you staying? Jesus said to them, Come, and you will see! The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. Jesus found Philip and said to him, Follow me. Gospel: John 19.16b-22 Sermon Hymn: Lamb of God Page 881 in the black pew Bible #336 Page 3

*Reading: Philippians 2.5-11 5Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, 7but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, 8he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even death on a cross. 9Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. *Prayers: Lord, Listen to your Children Praying #752 Leader: Renewed in the promises of baptism, let us pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need. A brief silence. From the Assembly: We pray for the church. Bless all who call upon your name. Unite your church in bearing witness to the gospel. Pour your love into our hearts, and inspire us to pour out our lives in service to your world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. From the Assembly: We pray for the world. For palm trees and figs. For trees with leafy branches. For olive groves and gardens. For mountains and hillsides, valleys and canyons. For places affected by rising sea levels or depleted water sources. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Page 4

From the Assembly: We pray for the nations. For peace among all, especially those who honor Jerusalem as holy ground. For all who hold positions of authority and power. For all who suffer oppression, and for those who serve in the armed forces. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. From the Assembly: We pray for those in need. For those who have suffered betrayal. For those who live in poverty. For those who have no voice or power. For the forsaken and forgotten. For those who are in crisis, and for those who are ill; for the family and friends of John Buzz Zimmerman. Also for Zach Stanley (grandson of Les and Althea Stanley), Nicole Kolbo and her newborn son, Gabriel (daughter of Brenda Lydon), Carmen Peterson (brother of Candace Warner), Donna Heuer, Jill Gunns, Geri Schiller, Edith Webster, Jane Jones, and Michelle Clark. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. From the Assembly: We pray for this assembly. For those preparing for baptism or confirmation. For musicians, altar guilds, ushers, and all who lead us in worship. For those who serve our community through food pantries, homeless shelters, and clothing banks. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Here other intercessions may be offered. From the Assembly: With thanksgiving, we remember all who have been obedient to your will and all who have died in faith. Bring us with them into your glory, to dwell with you in life eternal. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Pastor: Trusting in your covenant of mercy, O God, we lift our prayers to you, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. *Sharing of the Peace Meal Offering He does not put out his money at interest, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken. Psalm 15:5 *Offertory: God Extends an Invitation #486 Page 5

*Offering Prayer God our provider, you have not fed us with bread alone, but with words of grace and life. Bless us and these your gifts, which we receive from your bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. *Great Thanksgiving *You Are Holy *Lord s Prayer Communion *Prayer After Communion O God, we thank you for gathering and feeding us as a mother hen embraces her young. Release us now to go on our way in these forty days, ready to see our work as prayer, ready to fast from complacency, and ready to share with those in need; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. *Blessing The blessing of God Almighty, the wisdom and power of Christ Jesus, and the light of the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always. Amen. *Hymn: Forever Dismissal Go in peace, serve the Lord Thanks be to God. #525 Attendance March 18 8.15 am 112 10.30 102 Wednesday, March 21-130 For March 11: Page 6 Total general fund giving, including Simply Giving, is $4687.28 Total designated fund * giving, Symbol including indicates a Simply time when Giving, the congregation is $803.00 stands
