Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry Diocese of Columbus 197 E. Gay Street Columbus, Ohio 43215 (614) 241-2565 April 17, 2013 Dear Diocesan Student, Greetings from the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry (OYYAM)! Receiving this packet means that someone in your parish or Catholic high school believes you exemplify Christian leadership in your parish or Catholic high school and as excellent candidate for the Diocesan Youth Council (DYC). The OYYAM is looking for young people like you to serve on the DYC. The DYC is a group of sophomores, juniors and seniors who will serve in advisory and assistive capacities for the OYYAM beginning August 2013 through July 2014. At the end of the term, those DYC who are not graduating and wish to serve a second term may reapply. Students from all over the 13 deaneries which comprise our 23 county diocese (including representatives from the 11 diocesan Catholic high schools) will be selected to serve and represent the young church at the diocesan level. DYC representatives make a commitment to assist the staff of the OYYAM with programs like the Bosco Bash (an annual Junior High youth rally which draws 300+ young people); the Diocesan High School Youth Rally (an annual youth rally which draws over 300 young people from across our diocese); A Journey Toward Peace: A Walking Stations of the Cross (a diocesan-wide Good Friday service incorporating social justice themes and the traditional Stations prayer); and various other meetings that may come up. Most importantly, the DYC is an essential connection between the OY&YAM and the young people of the Columbus Diocese. As with any extracurricular activity, there is a cost requirement for all DYC members. This includes the overnight training retreat that will take place on July 26-28, 2013, the Bosco Bash, and the Diocesan High School Youth Rally. Cost break-down is explained further in this packet. If assistance is need, please contact the OYYAM. Attached are all the details which tell you more about the DYC, what the time commitment is, and what the OYYAM will expect from individual representatives. Please take a minute to review the information and see if this is something that might interest you. If so, please complete the application and get the two required recommendations and return them to us at the OYYAM by June 25, 2013. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the OYYAM. We look forward to the possibility of working with you as we build the youth ministry programs of our diocese. In Christ, Mike Hall OYYAM Director Sean M. Robinson OYYAM Program Coordinator
