We Are Review Questions Lesson 1 Salt What is salt used for? (seasoning [bringing out the flavor of] food; preserving food, soothing a bee sting, testing the freshness of eggs, killing poison ivy, easing a sore throat, keeping ants away, melting snow and ice, etc. [many uses!]) Fill in the blank. Job 6:6: Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an? (egg) What does unsavoury mean? (tasteless) Fill in the blanks (with the same word). Matthew 5:13: Ye are the of the earth: but if the have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (salt) How are Christians followers of Jesus Christ like salt? (they bring the flavor of Jesus to the things they touch; they represent Jesus to the world; things are better when they are around; they help make people thirsty to know Jesus, etc.) Where do Christians get their flavor their saltiness their ability to bring out the good in the things around them? (from Jesus) Fill in the blank. Colossians 4:6: Let your be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (speech) What are some words we use when we have good manners and season our speech with grace [salt]? (please, thank you, excuse me, forgive me, etc.) Lesson 2 Light What are different kinds of lights (for example, lamps, flashlights, headlights, lighthouses, nightlights, spotlights, etc.) used for? (to help us see better so we can find our way, to keep us safe, to help us feel less afraid, etc.) How is Jesus the Light of the World? (His spotlight shows us the sin in our lives; His lamp drives away the darkness [sin, sadness] from our hearts; His headlights show us the pathway to Heaven; His lighthouse keeps us away from rocky trouble; His flashlight helps us not to stumble even when there s darkness all around; His nightlight helps us be unafraid; etc.) Jesus said we are the light of the world, and A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. What does that mean? (a city on a high place can be seen from many miles away, especially at night when many lights are shining; Christians are individual lights, shining all together, making a bright light in a dark world)

Can the moon shine without the sun? (no; the moon is not a light source on its own; it reflects the light of the sun) Can we be the light of the world without Jesus? (no; we get our light from Him, like the moon reflects the light of the sun) Why isn t it smart to hide your light under a bushel (basket)? (if you try to keep the light to yourself, you can no longer see well either) Fill in the blanks. Matthew 5:16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (good works) What are some good things you can do that will help other people know Jesus? (speak kindly, help with jobs that need to be done, listen when your friend has a problem, be respectful of others, give money to help others, pray with someone, invite someone to church, teach someone a Bible study, etc., etc.) Lesson 3 Sheep Fill in the blank. Psalm 23:1: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not. What does I shall not want mean? (I won t lack anything; I ll have everything I need) Sheep need plenty of grass and clean water. What kinds of things does Jesus provide for us, His sheep? (everything in the world He created for us: food, water, shelter, sun, rain, etc., as well as family, friends, church, books, toys, clothes, love, joy, peace, etc., etc.) When Jesus sheep walk through the valley of the shadow of death, why aren t they afraid? (because He is with them; His rod and staff comfort them) What are the Shepherd s rod and staff, and what are they used for? (rod a stick; staff a stick with a hook on the end; these are used to fight off danger, prod sheep, and pull them back from danger) What keeps Jesus sheep from following a stranger? (they know Jesus voice and will only follow Him, not a stranger) How can we get to know Jesus voice? (by having conversations [listening and talking] with Him through prayer, by reading His Words in the Bible, by listening to teaching and preaching of His Word) The hireling (person hired to watch over the sheep) runs away, but what does the Good Shepherd do when He sees the wolf coming? (He protects His sheep, He even gives His life [dies] for the sheep; Jesus loves us His sheep so much He gave His life to save us!) If just 1 of the 100 sheep went missing, what would the shepherd do? (leave the 99 and go find the 1 lost sheep) What does he do when he finds the lost sheep? (carries it home rejoicing, and asks others to rejoice with him) We Are Review Questions Annette R. Evans Page 2

Lesson 4 Epistles What is an epistle? (a letter) We are written not with ink but with what? (the Spirit of the living God) Instead of writing on paper or tablets of stone, where has Christ written His letter? (on human hearts) We re not talking about your blood-pumping organ. What heart are we talking about? (the center of your personality [who YOU are], your feelings and emotions) What famous Old Testament items were written on tablets of stone? (the 10 Commandments) What happened to the first set of stone tablets with the 10 Commandments written on them? (Moses threw them down and broke them when he saw the Israelites worshiping a golden calf) What is one problem with letters written on stone tablets or on paper? (they can be ruined or lost or stolen) When Moses saw the people worshiping the golden calf, which commandment were they already breaking? (2 nd : Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Exodus 20:4) If Christ puts His letter right at the center of YOU, do you think it will be easier to obey His commandments? (yes; when His Word is in your heart, you will LOVE it!) Once Jesus writes His letter in your Heart, you become His epistle to everyone around you. How should you act to show people that Jesus has written in your heart? (show the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering [patience], gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance [selfcontrol]) Lesson 5 The Bride When two people decide to get married, what are some things they do to prepare for their wedding day? (send out invitations, ask people to be in their wedding, buy wedding clothes, prepare a place to live together, etc.) What has Jesus Christ, our groom, gone away to prepare for us? (a place, a mansion, a home) While Jesus is preparing a home for us, we should be dressing ourselves in fine linen of what color? (white) The fine white linen that Jesus bride is dressed in is called the righteousness of the saints. What is righteousness? (the quality of being right and doing what is right) Can we be righteous (be right and do the right things) without Jesus help? (no; we need His righteousness) We Are Review Questions Annette R. Evans Page 3

Brides and grooms vow (promise) to do what for each other? (be with each other through good and bad times, love and cherish each other, be faithful and loyal to each other for the rest of their lives) Fill in the blank. In Hebrews 13:5 Jesus promised, I will never thee, nor forsake thee. Can anyone or anything make Jesus stop loving us? (no!) As His bride, what are some promises we should make to Jesus? (to love Him; to obey Him [He said, If ye love me, keep my commandments John 14:15]; to be loyal to Him [serve no other gods]; to keep our hearts clean and ready for when He comes for us, etc.) Someday in Heaven there is going to be a party to celebrate Jesus Christ and His Bride. What does the Bible call this party? (the marriage supper of the Lamb) Lesson 6 The Body How many parts does your body have? (thousands [thousands of hairs alone!]) How many bodies do you have? (one!) All the different gifts of the Spirit come from how many spirits? (one Spirit) Imagine if your whole body was one big foot...or hand or eye or ear. Why would that be bad? (discuss how having only one ability or sense would severely limit you) Why is it a good thing that the Body of Christ (the Church), is made up of many different people with many different abilities? (these differences make the Body of Christ better and able to do much more than if everyone were the same and all had the same gifts) Paul said we should take care of each other because we re all part of one body. If you stub your littlest toe, how does your body react? (you feel pain; your hand grabs your toe; your nerves, brain, hand, fingers, etc., all react) If your foot gets a soothing massage, how does your body react? (your feet feel wondeful and relaxed; your nerves, brain, etc., all react and feel better also) What are some jobs that people do in our church? (preacher, teacher, muscisian, praise singer, cleaner, yard worker, usher, office worker, etc.) What part of the human body tells all the other parts what to do? (the head/brain) Who is the Head of the Church? (Jesus Christ [we talked about this earlier in the year when we studied His H titles]) We Are Review Questions Annette R. Evans Page 4

Lesson 7 The Temple What is a temple? (a building dedicated to [set apart for] worship; any place where God lives) What was the name of the Israelites tent of worship? (the Tabernacle) What was one of the best things about God s house being a tent? ([hint: the Israelites were constantly traveling] the Tabernacle could be taken down, packed up, and carried with them from campsite to campsite) Which king of Israel wanted to build God a more permanent, beautiful house of worship? (David) Why didn t God allow David to build Him a Temple? (because He had been a man of war) Whom did God say would build Him a Temple? (David s son, Solomon) Why can t you worship God in the Tabernacle or Solomon s Temple today? (they are both no longer in existence) Is any temple that a man can build actually great enough to house God? (no!) God doesn t live in temples made with hands. Where does He live? (in us; you are His temple) How should you act and take care of yourself, knowing that you are God s Temple? (discuss keeping our hearts, minds, and bodies clean) Lesson 8 Children of God Galatians 3:26-27 says we become God s child by having faith in and being baptized in whose name? (Christ Jesus) Besides being born into a family, how else could you become someone s child? (by being adopted by him/her) What does it mean to be adopted? (to be chosen as one s own) Abba is what we call a term of endearment. It expresses loving affection for whom? (our Father) Since we re God s kids (born AND adopted into His family), we re His heirs. What does it mean to be an heir? (an heir inherits [will someday be given] all the father s property) What is something about the way you look or act that people say is like your earthly father? (eyes or other facial features, hair, height, a certain ability, personality, etc.) What is something about the way you look or act that people say is like your Heavenly Father? (discuss; should include loving others and not sinning) What does a father who truly loves his child do when the child does wrong? (corrects [punishes, disciplines] the child) True or False: Our Heavenly Father watches us carefully just so He can catch us doing something wrong and punish us? (false; He watches over us carefully to protect us and to delight in the wonderful kids that we are) We Are Review Questions Annette R. Evans Page 5

Lesson 9 Branches Jesus is the vine and we are the what? (branches) Jesus said that if we abide in Him (or remain attached to Him) we will grow fruit, but without Him we can do what? (nothing) Not only can a branch not produce fruit if it is detached from the plant, it will soon what? (die) A detached branch withers and then what is it used for? (firewood) How do we stay attached to Jesus? (by having His Words remain in us [read and obey the Bible] and by asking [praying]) Love is the first fruit of the Spirit. Can you name any of the eight others? (joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance [Galatians 5:22-23]) What does the gardener do to every branch in us that doesn t grow fruit? (He takes it away [cuts it off]) Why does God sometimes have to cut things out of our lives (like some music or books or movies or activities or friends)? (because He loves us and wants us to grow fruit) Lesson 10 Soldiers What is a soldier? (a person who serves in an army) As soldiers of Jesus Christ, we wear the Armor of God. What are the six parts of the armor? (head to toe: helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, and sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God) What are we fighting against? (the devil and spirits of darkness and evil; temptation and sin; everything that is against God) What are we fighting for? (faith and eternal life; everything Jesus Christ stands for) Those who don t give up (surrender) to the devil but keep fighting will receive what? (a crown of righteousness [2 Timothy 4:7-8]) We Are Review Questions Annette R. Evans Page 6
