A Message From Our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick, Every year in the United States we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, a time to stop and reflect upon why we have Catholic schools. A time to appreciate the Catholic school system that so many of us benefited from. A time to seek ways to try to provide a Catholic school education for every student and family who wants a Catholic school education. The theme for this year is, Catholic Schools are Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service. These three things are to be found in every Catholic school at all levels of Catholic school education. The Gospel today tells us that Jesus began to preach and say Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand. We also see Jesus call His first Apostles to follow Him and to also preach and teach. In our Catholic schools, all of the academic subjects are taught under the guidance of the Gospel of Jesus, and the gifts of His church. A Catholic school education prepares us to place God as the light that gives true meaning to education. Here at St. Patrick Catholic School, I meet so many adults who were or are products of our Catholic school system right here in Rodeo-Hercules. I meet so many parents who are now sending their children to the school where they got their Catholic education. We are proud that St. Patrick School has a full scale Nursery, Pre-school, Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten to 8th grade. You can attend St. Patrick School right after birth and graduate in the 8th grade. Yes, we are proud that we have this blessings in our parish. Today, I pray in thanksgiving to God for all the children, teachers, parents and siblings who have and are now attending our Catholic school. My prayer is that one day every student who wants to attend a Catholic School will have the financial resources to do so. Catholic Schools Week, also reminds me of the value and dedication of all those teachers in our public schools who are also teaching our St. Patrick Parish family students at grade school, middle school and high school. Some of the things I value most in my life is that I attended Catholic School for 12 years. That I have been a teacher and a principal in our Catholic School system and that I have the privilege to serve on the Catholic School s School Board for the Diocese of Oakland. Please join with me in prayer this week for all our Catholic Schools and all the children of our parish in public schools. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor
