Archdiocese of Detroit St. John s Deaf Center Our Lady of Loretto West Detroit Catholic Deaf Catholic Deaf Newsletter February 2017 www.sjdc-oll.org Volume 36 Issue 2 Dear Friends in Christ, I hope you have visited our new website! Many thanks to Paul Kuplicki who spent many hours developing the website and Darlene Graham who did tedious work editing many mistakes. I know I did say this several times, but I once again feel thankful for having so many people at SJDC and OLL who gave many hours of their volunteer work, talents, and service to our centers and the community. I can t imagine how I would be able to run the centers without these dedicated people. Thank you to all of you who help us in many different ways! God bless your good hearts. The Parish Council at St. John s Deaf Center recently voted that we should order pizza or other refreshment whenever we have a saint movie night. The next movie night is February 17. Please feel free to come! One of things we had learned during the Year of Mercy was to bury the dead. Unfortunately, many people do not bury the cremated ashes of their loved ones, and it is known that many urns are sitting on a shelf or in a closet for many years. The Catholic Church teaches that we need to be respectful of the remains or ashes of a deceased person by burying them as soon as possible. In response to this, the Archdiocese had recently announced that all Catholic cemeteries in Detroit Metro will accept cremated ashes without charge. If you have an urn with ashes of a deceased person, then please give it to one of the Catholic cemeteries. They will bury it for free. Please see me if you have questions. I wish you all the best. God bless. Fr. MD
