Hexham and Newcastle Catholic Charismatic Renewal Renewal NorthEast Pat Kennedy writes: Issue 60 January 2015 Dear All, Recently I was at a National Ecumenical Leaders Meeting in the London Area. There is always a great mix of Leaders from other denominations and house churches. They are all always very enthusiastic. It is sad to hear how many of them began their Faith Life as Catholic. Over the weekend Fr Peter Hocken spoke of Renewal post Vatican II as one of the signs which changed thinking on the rigidity of post Reformation Teaching. God is alive, He is Imminent, He does do Miracles and he does want to grace us, to heal us for our role in life and Ministry. We have a responsibility to witness to this throughout all our lives. Recently I did a workshop on the Dangers of Baptism and this is exactly what it was about. Our responsibility no matter what stage of health or illness, is to witness to what God has done and still is doing for me. A series of questions were asked which each was encouraged to take back and ask where ever their Faith Home was. Below is an adaptation of those for us both as Catholic and Charismatic. Do you attend a Group? What is the Charism of your Group? How do you personally and as a group live it out? How do you reach out in Parish/ Area/ Diocese/ Renewal Community? How are you linking in with Diocese and Diocesan Renewal? What events do you attend and support? Days of renewal, Healing Services, Talks etc? When was the last time you went to any of these? What am I personally doing to keep these things going and alive? Do I reply to correspondence? Did you send back the recent questionnaire? Have you ever attended the Weekend for Avent at Minsteracres? Did you say you d go back and never did?- If not why not? What are your personal gifts/ Charisms? Where do you use them? How do you keep them alive? How do you use God s Word? Do you believe it as God s Word? What do you think He is asking you to do/ be?

Many of us are getting older and cannot attend as easily as before- Would you be willing to be part of an Intercession Group and receive things, events, people to pray for Discerning the Word of God for Renewal and the Church? If so let me know. We are looking at evenings afternoon of Healing perhaps in Newcastle and Sunderland a couple a year plus perhaps a Mass with healing prayer, rather than lots of healing services in various parishes, as the response to that was small. Dates are being arranged at the moment. We have a Day of Renewal on Saturday 4 th July in St Joseph s Sunderland with Charles Whitehead and we are looking to arrange another date with Pat Collins in September which hopefully will be sorted soon. We have a date on Saturday 2 nd May in St Hilda s for the gathering of prayer group leaders again which has been previously well attended. There is a gathering of Northern Leaders on Saturday 23 rd May for a Pentecost Meeting of the Holy Spirit to look at Renewal in the North- and its way forwardif any group leaders would like to come with us to take part in this discernment let me know. We are looking at drafting up a new set of talks, an introduction series, a middle and a follow up series on Coming to Life in the Holy Spirit. I feel that the Seminars as they stand at the minute are too short and were meant for a Community who would sustain growth when attendees became part of the group. We do not have that situation in many places now. We need to provide on going formation. A group is now looking at this. I am arranging a meeting for all those involved in Healing. Sunday March 8th 3-5pm. St Hilda s Resource Centre. Newcastle. This will be a Ministry Afternoon for the Healing Ministry to strengthen and affirm their Ministry. We are still looking for interest in training in the healing ministry. We are willing to do it in your group or to a gathered number of people interested in being part of the Diocesan healing Team to serve at Days in Newcastle and Sunderland. Let me know. You are welcome to come along to this afternoon in March, but training is needed if you are to serve in this Ministry, North or South of the Diocese, please let me know. After the success of the last Visit to HOLY ISLAND last year, We have arranged two dates for 2015. Saturday 14 th March and Saturday 10 th Oct. There will be one bus and it will be first come first served so please reply as soon as possible. It will be 10 same as last year and pick up points will be the same. Times may be different according to tides. Form attached

Celebrate is happening again on Saturday 7th-Sunday 8 th November. We are still hoping to arrange an Ecumenical Day together which is not proving easy to arrange but we ll keep you informed, MUSIC we are forming a new music group to play at Diocesan Events. If you are interested please contact Michael O Connor michaeljoc@btinternet.com or you can come along to the next scheduled practice of the Diocesan Musicians on Friday 30th. January at 7pm at St Hilda s Diocesan Centre West Rd, inside Diocesan Office grounds. NE15 7PY We are hoping to arrange a Music Workshop with an outside Worship Leader, when this group is formed and if any prayer group would like to join it please let me know. According to numbers we can sort cost. Minsteracres Weekend this year is Friday 27 th.-29 th November- Come along and help support Minsteracres as well as Renewal and each other. Remember grants can be applied for if you can t afford the whole cost. In Many Dioceses there is no active DST, there is not much to help keep the Charisms alive. Attached also is a list of people willing to come to your groups to give input should you need it. I would be happy to visit any prayer group if invited. There s a lot going on here, Please come and part of it all and support what we are trying to do. Any other suggestions let us know. A timetable list of all dates, venues etc of events is attached. Thanks again. Pat x DST Membership Pat Kennedy (Chair) Peter Hodgson Gerry Nelson Ged Downey Paul Copeland Rev.
