[00:00:00] Good Morning. [00:00:11] Welcome to MorningCoach. Today I am so glad you're with us. [00:00:16] As you know my name's J.B. glossinger and this is your personal evolution system, the place to get your day started right. [00:00:24] Welcome, welcome, welcome, and I'm so glad you're with me today it is Halloween one of my favorite days, it's a great day to play a little bit of dress up do some fun things and have some fun. [00:00:37] I think one of the reasons that I love Halloween so much, as I studied metaphysics and study the world's religions and things that are happening is that it means so much to so many people. I think that gets lost in the translation when we start to discuss Halloween because we don't really understand it for what it is. So I want to talk about the origins of it and I also want to talk about the Dia De los Muertos for some people which is really celebrated Halloween and is a very, very sacred day and I think it's important we understand that. One thing I always talk about here at MorningCoach that when we do certain things we need to remember that we are bringing that energy into our life. For example, if we don't understand the ramifications of what we're doing we can bring in some negative things in our life right. So we don't want to do that we want to keep everything positive and understand what's going on. We also want to have a reverence and one of the beautiful things about believing in religious pluralism as I do which means religious pluralism means there's many paths to God OK and there's many ways that you can get to God. [00:01:53] Just to be brief on that if we look at when you know Buddha Christ and even if we go all the way back and when the study of Krishna. We understand that when the world was happening then there weren't communication forms. It was literally like if you're in Africa and the United States you're like being on Jupiter and the earth I mean that's how separate we were. So my belief that I personally follow is that you know that God created different paths to him over that time meaning there's other ways that you can get there. That's what religious pluralism. So as you study religious pluralism it allows you to have compassion for other people's beliefs which allows you to dig into those beliefs and respect them and really get into the culture and understand them which is what I love to do. That's what happens here with Halloween. If we understand Halloween First of all let's talk about the origin. It can be traced back to pagan felt festivals by the Celtic people over 2000 years ago.
[00:02:57] They believe that during It was actually called Semaine during that time. The living could visit with the dead, and that was the idea. Now here's the deal with this. Actually this is still celebrated right and it's celebrated in Mexico. It's celebrated in a lot of areas as the day of the dead or the Dia De Los Muertos. Here's what's so important about this. A lot of people nowadays are starting to do the sugar skulls and you know the Mexican tradition you've seen the skull and the Mexican sugar tradition because it's cool, but the truth is it's really important to understand this. If you're painting your face and your children with this that we need to really understand it and it's a very sacred tradition for them. It's a very sacred tradition. In fact Anabelle host celebrates this and you know on Facebook and I want to just tell you what she said because I think it's important Anabelle said "if you're painting your face in sugar skulls Please educate yourself on the history of this beautiful ancient and sacred tradition for us is a time of the year where the veil between life and death disappear and we can connect directly with our ancestors. We build altars to them with their favorite foods and drinks. We talk to them we dance we celebrate. The tradition dates back to the Aztecs over 3000 years ago" which is awesome, and you understand that. So my thing is this this tradition goes all the way back. [00:04:32] It's so cool that this idea is that you know you could connect with your ancestors and you help remember them. And there's actually a little bit of a belief that's not shared with everybody that follows this but that if we don't connect with our loved ones if they're forgotten that they disappear so there's actually even that aspect of it that's even even stronger for certain people not everybody believes in that, But the idea is it's a very beautiful thing. It's a very beautiful celebration, and so instead of as some people do judging Halloween is this evil negative thing it's actually very beautiful if you understand some of the traditions around the world. And also I think it's very important that before you go around and you start dressing up with something because you think it's cool. Understand what it means and and respect the tradition and the culture. I think that's a big part of life. A lot of people I see will put on a Che shirt and wear it around. Well understand what he stood for. You think that's cool and that's what you want to support then understand it. You know Pablo Escobar is getting very popular because of this show Narco's that's on Netflix a lot of people think this guy was a really cool guy, But if you really know what he did he killed a lot of people and it was not he's not a cool guy. OK. [00:05:59] You just got to understand and I think you know we live such on the surface level sometimes that we don't look into the depth of things to really understand them more and I think you're missing out on life when you do that. So when somebody like AnaBelle you know jumps out with her tradition and really wants to educate you I think it's a blessing. I mean it's great and learn more than you can I think spend a little bit of
time to understand you know why the people are celebrating this and what they're doing and the origins of Halloween and what it's about. [00:06:32] OK. It's really the celebrations awesome by the way the celebrations normally November 1st and 2nd so it's not just Halloween but it's this is how this all kind of connected was run from these traditions for it goes all the way back to the Aztecs which has now become the modern day Halloween in the Catholic world in South America, [00:06:55] They have all souls or all Saints Day and they have special mass cleaning up the tombs cleaning things up. Very similar the same thing. So over these days we have this celebration of our ancestors and the history that we have with our cultures which I think is an awesome way to celebrate Halloween. Now where did the costumes come. Well some of them came from basically these ghoulish costumes and the wandering spirit. So here I'm just going to read this from the American History of Halloween because I think it explains it the best according to this book some of the Celts war ghoulish costumes so that wandering spirits would mistake them for one of their own and leave them alone. Others offered sweets to the spirits to appease them in medieval Europe. The Catholic clergy adopted local pagan costumes and had their head hairnets go from house to house wearing costumes requesting small gifts. So that's kind of where that comes from is that during this time people were trying to you know offer sweets to the spirits and so that the costumes come from that and ghost, vampires, warewolves, witches, and zombies some of the modern day things they have just been connected with the spirits and that's the way it was. And then in Medieval Britain hallowing Pumpkin's and Jack o Lanterns helped what they did as they would move door to door asking for food or return for prayer for the dead and they would carry a held up turnup lanterns and the candle was a soul trapped in purgatory. [00:08:36] There is another idea about Pumpkin's and Jack o Lanterns that the lanterns were used to ward off evil spirits during the 18 hundreds of North America's pumpkins replaced turnips because they were plentiful and easy to hollow out and carve. So those are some of the beliefs behind immortality of the soul in purgatory all come around Halloween. So personally I think why I just embrace this next few days so much whether it's tomorrow, Día de los Muertos or Halloween today is that there is a metaphysical component to you. It actually challenges your beliefs to think back to some of these traditions and when you see it for that you can connect a little bit more spiritually than just beyond the surface level. [00:09:22] Now we'll have fun and you can play dress up and go out and do fun things. I know a lot of people have parties this weekend. I think it's great. I mean I think that the children love it. It used to be my favorite holiday you'd go out and get candy you get to
get with your kids you get to stay up late. You'd go out. I remember the fall days back in Indiana. All the big piles of leaves and we would set up all the big piles of leaves and as we got you know we'd jump in them and the dogs would jump in them and man it would just so much fun and we'd get together and we'd worked in neighborhoods and see who get the most candy. Then as we get older and our teen years we used to set up the haunted house out in the yard so we could scare the kids when they come up and get the candy. Just very very fond memories most the time is really kind of chilly. We get those fall days every once in a while a little bit of rain but normally we were blessed with pretty good weather at Halloween and we used to carry pillow sheets pillow cases I couldn't spit that out this morning. That's what we would fill up. We would carry pillow cases we didn't have all the fancy stuff. And I remember going to the local drugstore back in the day and picking up the different costumes and picking out what we were going to wear. [00:10:34] Man I'd spent hours in those aisles with my cousins and we would pick out the stuff and it's just so many cool costumes one year I went as a pumpkin, I remember when KISS was really big and everybody wanted kiss so really fond memories of this day and this holiday and you know as I get older now and I look at the depth of you know having wonderful people like Anabelle, obviously Pillar my wife, and I you know other diverse cultures come in my life German who helps us here at MorningCoach, you know we can really celebrate with the culture and celebrate with them. And I think that's really what I think brings me so much joy is understanding this depth of metaphysical ideas in the sacred tradition that comes with this you know being able to go back and connect all the way through your lineage and your ancestors and connect to them. I personally feel that you know there are times when you know my grandfather you know I think about my grandfather a lot. [00:11:36] He was such a friendly and kind person and able to bring him back into my memory. My grandfather and my grandmother my step grandfather and step grandmother from my stepfather just wonderful people who are now gone and my grandmother on my father's side who spoke German which was really weird you know and just kind of helped babysit me as I was growing up you know and my grandfather who I know very good. [00:12:01] Then thinking about their parents and going through the lineage and getting into that a little bit that's really really awesome. And I think it's really cool. So as you dress up don't just dress up to dress up don't just dress up because something's cool or you know grab a T-shirt because something is cool. Understand the history of it understand what's going on behind it because as you do that as you connect to that you're really making a really special day in a special event for you and then you're
honoring and respecting those who are celebrating their tradition in whatever way they were. Now if your personal belief if you come from some of the you know secular religious believes that it's this evil thing and then it's a nasty thing. That's where you know you've got to step out. I think you know any thing that you know really just is so so judge mental is dangerous. [00:13:02] Right. We've got to be very cautious with judgment. So step out of that judgment a little bit and allow things to be and kind of open your mind to other people's cultures and ideas and I think you will enjoy your life a little bit better. I honestly believe that's what God intended it to do. I think it's not always about judgment. If you look at some of the really conservative hard core Christian beliefs right. You know if you think about you know Jesus, Jesus was a dude that you know I have a lot of respect for whatever your person believe as you know he went in the temple and he you know tossed everything out and got you know he wasn't about to hypocrites. And if you really realized what he taught and what he believed. It's pretty amazing that I don't think a lot of these modern churches would be the way they are and some things would be differently. Again I'm not here to judge, everybody's belief is what it is. If it works for you great, But if you're going to believe something make sure you study it intently and you understand and intently for your own personal belief and you know if you're a Christian obviously it's based on you know Jesus and His teachings and if you look at his teachings it Debt, and I personally believe that if you're reading the Bible was written for you and you personally not the interpretation of it you're going to find that sometimes those meanings are getting a little bit skewed with human comprehension and human interpretation. [00:14:27] So make sure you look at that. If you follow Jesus for what he did and who he was it's a lot different than what he's portrayed as sometimes. And we've got to be very cautious in our judgment because more people and if there is sin, I believe one of the greatest sins in the world and I don't personally believe in sin, But if there was such a thing I believe that all the violence in the name of God and the death and in the name of God is the greatest one of them all right. So educate yourself today have some fun today with Halloween. If you get a chance check out Anabelle's post. Anabelle if you can please repeat that post in the community Facebook community that be great or I can share it if you're cool with that so that everybody can read it.
