Richie s Report A working bee prepared Telegraph Park on Tuesday morning so the grass can be laid on Thursday. We need as many people as we can to come on Thursday morning and bring a sharp knife to help cut the turf. Laurie O Brien attended last Thursday night s meeting to thank the club for its support and help at the Euroa Gift. Please don t forget about your raffle tickets, any member who does not have a book please see Eric. Cheers Richie Club Members welcomed Lyn Newham at the last meeting as she was inducted with a classification of Community Services. Welcome to our midst, Lyn, we look forward to working with you to make our community a better place to live. Tuesday (before Easter) Night s Meeting The evening was devoted in the main to a few reports on the conference, which was enjoyed by all who went to Yarrawonga. It was agreed that the accommodation was tops with plenty of room and time to socialize as a club. Mandy and Bill spoke about the Sportsmen s Night with both enjoying that very much. Mandy especially enjoyed the Golf as she took out Grand Champion Sports Person and Nearest the pin and had trophies to prove achievements.
There were a good number of great speakers on the Saturday and an excellent meal and with entertainment on the Saturday evening. A number of members stayed on for the Sunday and reported that this was a fine day as well. For those who have not been to a conference it is a great opportunity to see Rotary in action and to have a great social time with other club members. Laurie O Brien, Chair of the Euroa Gift, came along on Tuesday night to thank members for our involvement in the running of the Gift. We couldn t have done it without your support! Des Nicel updated us on the development of the Cambodian project being put together by Michael Bell and his committee. A written report has been sent to all members in a separate email. Some of our members tripped the light fantastic on the Saturday night at the Conference: Gillian, Brian, Michael & Jenny showed how it should be done! Mandy holds her trophy high much to the delight Don, Monica, Gillian and others not pictured!
As this year s Foundation Director, I would like to remind club members of the many wonderful ways this charity our charity benefits so many people in so many different ways all over the world. The Rotary Foundation made its first donation in 1917 and since then has enabled more than 4 billion USA dollars to be transformed into service projects that change lives across the globe and in our own district. We are all aware of the huge impact we have made in our goal to eradicate Polio. Since our program began in 1985 there have been 2.5 billion children immunised against polio, reducing cases of the disease by 99.9%. It was reported at the recent conference in Yarrawonga that there has been only 5 cases reported so far this year. There are numerous ways we can all get involved we are asked to donate but we can also utilise our own funds. Half our contributions end up in the World fund and the other half in the District Fund with both funding the generous grant models that Rotarians use to do good through various projects. The Foundation has received a 4 star award, a standard achieved by only one percent of charities for prudent care of donors money and fiscal responsibility. All club members can become involved in the Every Rotarian Every year project where donations can be made by individuals. I urge everybody to consider this or make an effort to promote and sell tickets to the movie night we have planned on May 25 th from which all proceeds are planned to support Foundation projects. The Rotary Foundation is a way members can utilise countless opportunities to do good in both or local community and the world by making a real and life changing difference for people in need. Thanks to the wonderful work done through our Foundation, Rotary and Rotarians everywhere, are recognised as agents of positive change. Bill Sargood
