Every Surah in the Quran consists of an ayat (verse/statement) and every ayat is a divine message from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Al Quran is Kalamullah, the words of our Lord, Allah and Allah has promised and guaranteed that it will never change, from the time Allah revealed it till the Day of Judgment. Why has Allah guaranteed this? The Quran is actually our manual, a divine manual and we cannot live without this divine manual. We don t need anything else such as manmade manuals. The Quran is all we need. While living this life we want something which is good this life and which is good for the purpose of this life. What is the purpose of this life? To know our Creator in order so that we love Him, be close to him, recognize Him so that Allah reforms us and elevate us to the highest place, so that we can be in neighborhood of our Creator. Everyone wants to be in the neighborhood of Allah and that is in paradise. However, there is paradise in this life!!! Where is the paradise of this life? Hazrat Anas (RA) narrates that Rasulullah (PBUH) said: When you pass the gardens of paradise then graze well. They asked: What are the gardens of paradise? He replied: The gatherings of Zikr. The Prophet saw said when you pass through the gardens of paradise in this life you should stop and sit. The best of gatherings/halkas are those which make you closer to Allah, which soften your heart, which make you realize the purpose of life. The purpose of life is La illaha illala. There is no one worthy of worship, no one as Mightiful, no one to whom we should have the attachment apart from Allah.
Jewels form the Quran - Gems from Surah Al Layl Surah 92. Al-Lail, Verse 1-3: و الل ي ل إ ذ ا ي غ ش ى و الن ه ار إ ذ ا ت ج ل ى T Translation: The night as it envelops; And by the day as it appears in brightness; And by Him Who created male and female; Q Al layl means the night. A whole chapter in the Quran on the night!!! Every chapter in the Quran has a name. Why the night??? Because it is a sign!!! The night, the day, the sun, the moon, the nights are signs from Allah and there are ayats in the Quran about these. Every ayat is a sign from Allah. Because we can ask who created these? This is a simple question but this simple question can make our life s purpose easier and clearer because it makes us realize who our Creator is. What is this Surah about? H At the beginning of Surah Al layl, Allah is giving an oath or swearing. Why is Allah giving this oath? He subhana wa ta'ala does not need to give an oath but it is for our benefit, to convince us. Why does one give an oath or swear? To make the other party believe!!! Allah has given oaths in different ayats of the Quran, where He swears by different things. In surah Al Layl Allah swears by three different things. When an oath is given there are two things: the oath itself and the subject of the oath which Allah wants us to believe in. In this ayat, Allah says By the night when it covers. Who wrote the Quran? Nobody, the Quran was revealed 1400-1500 years ago to the Prophet saw. The Prophet saw did not write it, it was revealed to him saw as a divine revelation.
The first ayat: By the night when it covers Allah gave an oath by the night. If we think about it we will realise that we need the night, we need the night and day - we actually need the night and day together. If we observe, the day and night are different in every country, the seasons such as summer and winter are different too. Who is the one disposing these affairs? It is only Allah alone. Can we ask anyone to make the night or day longer or shorter? No, only Allah can do so. So when Allah tells us that He swears, it means no one except Him so why do we ask anyone else or worship anyone else, no one else deserves this, nobody is the guider, the provider except Allah!!! That is why when Allah says by the night, we can see that we need the night. If we look at the night it is so beautiful, we have the stars, the moon and every night is different, especially the transit times at sunset or sunrise when the day and night are merging and this shows us the ability of Allah, His mercy on us. It comes gradually because Allah is taking care of us. There are so many things we didn't ask for but Allah has given us because he is our Creator and loves us. So Allah says by the night when it covers (like a cloak)... Observe when you are on an airplane and at sunset the night descends slowly, it is like a beautiful black blanket/ cloak embellished with beautiful stars and the moon. Why has Allah given us the night? In order that our bodies/systems can relax, if we try and sleep in the morning we can't get the feeling of the night, that is why it is said that the best of the sleep is at night and the best of the night is at the beginning of the night after isha. Sleep at this time is the best - it is said that one hour is equivalent to four hours and after this the quality of the sleep decreases. We can't function when we don't sleep well. The second ayat: And the day when it comes? The first ayat is by the night when it covers, in the second ayat: Allah swears by the opposite - Allah swears by the day, the nahr morning!!!
Why do we need the morning? To work, to do our daily tasks, our cells are active!!! When is the best time in the morning? After fajr when the sun rises. The prophet saw said we get the blessing at this time. It is said this is the worst of the times to sleep because the provisions are distributed at this time, it is time of blessings!!! Allah s mercy Look at how Allah is dealing very gently with us with the day and the night. When the day comes, it comes very gradually, slowly so beautifully as if it is being painted slowly on the canvas of the sky!!! Similarly, when it is dusk, it is very gentle. Who did this? Allah did this, our Creator. Everything He has created is beautiful although it is temporary. It is just a taste of the real beauty and goodness to come. The real living is paradise. How it will be there is something we can't imagine. Opposites complement? So Allah says by when the night when it covers and by the day when it appears. These are the two signs of Allah, opposite but they complete each other. If we look at the universe it is full of opposites but these are beautiful opposites which we need. We will not appreciate the day if we did not have the night. Another important pair of opposites is male and female. The third ayat: And by Him who created Males & Females There would not be life without this. Allah has created everything in pairs, males and females. Males and females each one needs the other to make the life continue. Imagine a world where there were only males or only females. There would be no balance. The whole universe is based on the pair system. We can't say males are better than women or vice versa. Both are needed and there is no comparison. None can do the job of the other. We can do it best when we do what we are meant to do. When we look at how Allah has created the male and females they are made differently and Allah has placed between them love and passion. The males and females for each kind are suiting each other. For example the male jinn suits the female jinn and vice versa. Nothing else will complement this pairing and this is what makes the life complete, to continue. Who is the one creating this? Allah!!!
In all these three ayats there are opposites, day and night, males and females!!!! We cannot say that the day is better than the night or vice versa. They are completing each other. Ayat number 3 says Allah has created male and female pairs for everything. Everything in duniya is according to Allah s wisdom and Allah s knowledge!!!!
