Twila Paris reminds us why we bserve Memrial Day and why we wrship Jesus as ur Savir. The first verse tells f a 21-year-ld sldier fighting fr America s freedm during Wrld War II. The secnd verse recalls anther yung man, many centuries prir, sent by his Father t win eternal freedm frm sin fr the entire wrld. The chrus ffers this challenge: What did he die fr when he died fr yu and me, Made the sacrifice s that we culd all be free? I believe we will answer each t heaven Fr the way we spend a priceless liberty. Lk inside and ask the questin, What did he die fr? Memrial Day challenges us t live s as t hnr the sacrifices made by members f the military. We value ur freedm because f the heavy price peple have paid fr it. Likewise, every day we re challenged t live s as t hnr Jesus supreme sacrifice. He calls us t spend ur priceless liberty using ur blessings t bless thers. 3
Trinity Tidings Pastr s Page... Dear Friends, I have been lking ver sme Trinity UCC newsletters frm ver twenty years ag. In February 1988 the newsletter title n the frnt was Reflectins. The frnt-page article psed the questin, D I have t attend church services t be a Christian? The answer prvided by Rev. James Riser was n, we are saved by faith in the Lrd Jesus Christ, nt by ging t church. Rev. Riser ges n t give his reasns why it is imprtant t attend church. All f them are valid reasns and they speak t ne f the themes that I have been emphasizing in my sermns: It is yur inner life that matters mst. S ften the wrds f Jesus speak t ur inner cnditin. Fr many f us, it is nly at church that we spend time reflecting n the things we value mst in life. Hpefully yur relatinship t Gd is ne f thse things yu value mst. Ultimately yur inner life is ging t be reflected in the life that yu live in the wrld. Yur inner life will eventually determine r affect yur relatinships, yur family, yur wrk, and yur health. This des nt mean that if yu have a pure and healthy inner life yu wn t suffer frm the afflictins f this wrld. Jesus was nt saved frm the suffering f this wrld when he lived amng us. I d believe that ur inner life helps nurish us, it gives us strength, and it helps us maintain perspective n the mre imprtant things in life. Fr thse f yu wh have nt been attending we have been ding a few new things. There are new bulletins, new sngs, a new prtin f the ceremny fr testimny and praise, and we have added sme midweek classes. My wife Stelli led a bk grup n a bk titled The Female Brain by Luann Brizendine, MD. We are currently halfway thrugh a fur-week series I am leading n Christian Meditatin. In the weeks ahead we will be lking at sme new initiatives like a cmmunity garden, an utdr pavilin, and a new sign fr the entrance n Hwy 64. We welcme yur participatin as the cngregatin decides the directin f these prjects. We als welcme yur respnses t the things we are ding at Trinity. When we get yur feedback it helps us direct ur effrt t the places where we can be f the mst service t yu. I ll be spending time with the yunger Sunday schl members ver the next few weeks. I m sure we ll have sme new and exciting things t present in church sme future Sunday. Yu wn t want t miss that. I wanted t send ut a special thanks t Katy Haagen, wh has been leading the praise and testimny sectin f the Sunday service in additin t directing the chir and leading Sunday schl. That is a lt f wrk n nrmal Sundays; s t d all the extra wrk fr Easter services and Palm Sunday is a huge wrklad. If yu see her be sure t say thanks! May Gd s blessings fill yur life! Pastr Jeff
