The Lord s Outreach School of Theology Salvation In the Sanctuary By: Dr. Russell J. Benoit, Th. D., Ccc 3/12

Lesson 1 Can t Touch This! There is only one subject in the entire Bible that is mentioned and discussed more than God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit all put together. It is this subject that God has chosen to use to reveal the deep and awesome characteristics of Himself and His plan to save the fallen human race. This first lesson is an introduction to this subject that God has chosen for you to see, understand, and experience His Greatness. 1) How did Jesus describe Himself to his disciple Thomas? (John 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the, the, and the. 2. Give Greek words for each of these 3 words and explain each. a. = b. = c. = 3. How many times per year were the Jewish people were allowed to make atonement for their sins? Answer.

Notice the three terms that Jesus used. What did He mean when He used those terms? When Jesus said, I am the WAY, He meant something very specific. What was it. 2) What explanation does the Bible give for understanding the term way? (Psalms 77:13) Thy, O God, is in the ; who is so great a God as our God? The way is clearly identified as being in the sanctuary. Jesus states that he is the way the truth, and the life, and no man cometh unto the father but by him. Before Jesus ever came to earth the sanctuary was the only way of truth that led to forgiveness and life everlasting with God almighty. God s people always related to Him and understood Him by way of the sanctuary. 3) After Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, how did God s people seek forgiveness of sin from God? (Genesis 4:4) And Abel, he also brought of the of his and of the thereof. And the Lord had unto Abel and to his.

This system of sacrificing animals to God as offerings was the only acceptable way God would forgive sin. There was no other way to God to receive forgiveness. This way was the truth. This way was the life of God s people. 4) Abel s brother Cain tried another way to God. What did he do instead of the true way of life? (Genesis 4:3) And in the process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the of the an unto the Lord. There is no doubt that Cain meant well, and was sincere, because e brought a sacrifice to off God. He was not trying to be defiant. He was just trying to do it his own way. 5) What was wrong with Cain trying to do it his own way? (Proverbs 14:12) There is a which right unto a, but the thereof are the of. That is why we cannot trust ourselves in the things of God. We are fallen sinful human beings. We must look to the Word of God for instruction and direction for the right way, the truth, and the life, so that we won t end up like Cain.

6) What was God s attitude towards Cain s way of doing things? (Genesis 4:5) But unto and to his he had not. 7) What do you think God would have you to learn from Cain s mistake? (1 Samuel 15:22) Behold, to is better than, and to than the fat of rams. Cain obeyed God and brought a sacrifice. But, the sacrifice was an offering of fruit of the ground. Something was wrong with the sacrifice Cain chose of offer to God. 8) Why didn t God accept Cain s sacrifice, what was wrong with it? (Hebrews 9:22) And almost all things are by the law with ; and without of is no, The command of God was clearly understood by Cain and his brother Able. They were to offer animals as sacrifices to God. And the shedding of the blood of an animal (commonly a lamb) would be accepted for the sin of the person offering the sacrifice to God.

9) Why was the blood so important in this process of the forgiveness of sin? (John 1:29) The next day John seeth coming unto him, and saith, behold the of, which away the of the. The people of God plainly understood the need of a lamb and the shedding of its blood for forgiveness. But, this lamb could not be cut, blood taken from it, and the lamb be allowed to live. With the shedding of blood the lamb must also die. The animals being sacrificed (commonly lambs) represented the True Lamb of God, Jesus. The animal sacrifices were only meant to be temporary. They foreshadowed the death of Jesus who was to come and die for the sins of all humanity. As one songwriter put, What can wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus. 10) Why must the lamb die, that was being used in the sacrifice for the shedding of blood? (Romans 6:23) For the of is, but the of is life. The cost of sin is death. This fact was emphasized over and over again. Every time someone sinned they were required by God to sacrifice an animal (commonly a lamb) to God for forgiveness.

11) Did God just allow the people to sacrifice lambs anywhere and anytime? (1 Corinthians 14:40) Let things be done and in. Our God is a God of order. Thus, he instituted a system (The Sanctuary) for which the people of Israel could come to, and orderly offer their sacrifices to God. The Sanctuary is the subject matter that is mentioned and discussed in the Bible more than God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit all put together. This is why Psalms 77:13 says, Thy way o God is in the sanctuary. Of the many things, here are a few major parallels in the life of Jesus represented in the sanctuary: (1) One door into the sanctuary and Jesus says in John 10:9 I am the door. (2) In John 1:29 Jesus is the Lamb of God. (3) In Hebrews 8:1-2 Jesus is our high Priest of the sanctuary. 12. Give the greek word and meaning for Salvation
