I was fortunate enough to have my children home for a day filled with great food, laughter and love. As you know there is no better feeling than to spend a special occasion with people you love and care about. It is this togetherness that we have in our Council and something we need to share with others. This past weekend was the start of Advent, a beginning of the Church Year, a season of looking forward for something greater, both in the birth of Jesus Christ and the time when He will come again. This week s readings and Homily tells us to Be watchful, be alert for we know not when we will be called. To be the light in the darkness! To live a life filled with love, peace and forgiveness. As Christian Brothers we should always remember to be the best that we can be and to be that light in the darkness. Last month our Brother, Father Ed, held a special prayer service for the souls of our twelve deceased Brothers. This was a beautiful celebration of the lives of the men who help shape our Council. We were blessed to have the family of some of our deceased members join us in the Church and for bite to eat afterwards. I want to thank Father again for the beautiful candle lighting ceremony and prayer service. Continued on Page 2 Continued on Page 7
Continued from Page 1 For our Social Meeting last month we had an Open House for new prospects and transfers into our Council. As a result of our membership drive efforts, we had five new interested men attend, some with their wives, to spend the evening with us. After a short video presentation, a brief discussion and slide-show of pictures from our Council events, we received five signed Form 100s. This is a testament to all of you and the effort we put forth all year long. Great job. Next week, Saturday December 6 th is our Karaoke Pasta Dinner. Tickets are $15.00 per person. Adults Only (18 and over) BYOB. There will be a variety of pasta, each prepared to perfection by our very own Brothers. A professional Karaoke DJ has been hired to provide entertainment for dancing. The DJ has a list of 3000 songs to sing along to. This month we will also purchase and deliver gifts to the children in the Pediatric Ward at St. Peter s Hospital. In addition we will visit the Holy Cross Learning Center in Trenton to present our check from the God s Special Children Collection. In a tradition started by our Past Grand Knight Rich Segally we will try to attend their Christmas Mass where the children actively participate in the Mass (last year this event was cancelled due to snow storms and poor driving conditions). Dates TBD. **Please note Brother Jay Bubb as informed me that we will not be going to Lyons Veterans Hospital this December and that we will be going in the New Year. Our Annual Christmas Party will be Monday December 15 th starting at 6:00PM. It will be a Home Cooked Pot Luck Dinner. I need to know what you will bring so that the Council can supplement any food, if necessary. If you wish to bring dessert that is fine, just let me know. Council will supply wine, beer and refreshments. Children are welcome!!! As we move forward this month please remember to be the light in the darkness. Make someone smile, be giving and forgiving. We have a great Council and are blessed to have one another. For those of you who only get the Sword and do not attend the meetings have a very Merry Christmas. For those of you who I will see, we have a lot of work ahead. Two parties, Nativity Scene on Perrineville Road (date TBD), ushering at the 4 th Degree Midnight Mass... I will have plenty of time to wish you a Merry Christmas. God Bless you and your family! Your friend and Grand Knight, Brother Paul Boccardi Newsletter - Page 2
Christmas Prayer of Pope St. John XXIII Brothers, The following is a beautiful prayer written by Pope St. John the XXIII. We don't hear much of him these days, and I thought it would be nice to remember him and ask him to pray for us this Christmas by reciting his prayer to the Child of Bethlehem. Peace, Brother Ray Dunne Christmas Prayer of Pope St. John XXIII O sweet Child of Bethlehem, grant that we may share with all our hearts in this profound mystery of Christmas. Put into the hearts of men and women this peace for which they sometimes seek so desperately and which you alone can give to them. Help them to know one another better, and to live as brothers and sisters, children of the same Father. Reveal to them also your beauty, holiness and purity. Awaken in their hearts love and gratitude for your infinite goodness. Join them all together in your love. And give us your heavenly peace. Amen. Christ in Christmas Dear Brother Knights, As we approach the Christmas Holidays, we should not get caught up in the hustle and bustle of shopping. We should remember the real meaning of Christmas. It is the birth of Christ, a religious celebration. The merchants have made it too commercial, and it is up to all of us to continue to spread the word of the Gospel. Share "The Wonders of the First Christmas" with family and friends. Please help to keep Christ in Christmas. Let us not forget the needy families in our community. December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. A day to honor Mary, the Mother of Our Savior, our Mother and Patroness of the Knights not only by attending Mass (it is a Holy day of obligation), but for all of us to set aside sometime to pray The Rosary. Kindly remember all those members currently serving in our Armed Forces, especially those men and women who are in harms way. We should never forget those men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. God Bless them and their families. Marie and I would like to extend to all the Brothers and their families a Holy, Blessed Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year. Fraternally, Joseph L. Sabella, DD63 In Service to one. In Service to all.
