We receive 10% of what CTR parishioners pay. As you pay at the carwash, sign the book so we receive their donation. WORLD MISSION SUNDAY Today is World Mission Sunday! In announcing his decision to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said, Dear brothers and sisters, I have often thought about how the Church might make clear its mission of being a witness to mercy. Supporting the young churches throughout the world with your prayers and generous gifts is indeed a merciful witness of this mission. The collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious, and lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Extend your merciful witness to the whole world through your gift in today s collection for the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. AVAILABLE SERVICES FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED A sign language interpreter is available on the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays of the month at the 5:30 p.m. Mass. Sunday Offering $12,688.50 INCREASED OFFERTORY Next weekend, we will begin a program that asks everyone to reflect on the amount that they give to the Offertory. This review will ask several questions. Do I have a need to give or do I give only when there is a need? Do I understand that there is an obligation to provide regular financial support to the parish? Where does the parish fit relative to the other ways that I spend my money? How much do I give to the parish on a weekly basis? (If you give monthly or quarterly, calculate your weekly commitment to put it in perspective.) If I am not at the parish for one or more Sundays, do I make up the amount that I have not given? How much will I give each week during the coming year? Next week s 2nd collection is for Hurricane Matthew disaster relief. GIVING TREE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Giving Tree begins Nov. 12th and runs through Dec. 11th. REL. ED. 16-17 SCHEDULE Grades K-6 (Spanish) Saturday, Oct. 22 9:30 am to 10:30 am Grades 9-12 Sunday, Oct. 23 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm Grades 7-8 Monday, Oct. 24 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Grades K-6 (English) Tuesday, Oct. 25 or Wednesday, Oct. 26 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm INITIATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA) The Lord hears the cry of the poor The First Reading today echoes last week s Gospel message. It encourages the lowly to remain persistence in their prayers for the Lord will come to their aid. St. Paul s exhortation nearing his death looks at his life as one in which God s power has worked through him as one who has kept the faith and who is poured out like a libation so that the Gentiles might come to know the Gospel. In today s Gospel, Jesus offers a parable contrasting the self-satisfied righteousness of a Pharisee with the contrition and humility of a tax collector. Here, God does not seek to bestow prayers as awards for public prestige. God seeks the lowly who seek to turn to God that their lives and relationships might change. Why do you pray? Does it bring you closer to God and closer to your own human humility? Does it help you to seek change and a better life for all? Are you seeking help with your life and prayer? If you are an unbaptized adult or have an unbaptized child over the age of 7 interested in becoming catholic through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and communion or are from a different denomination and interested in becoming Catholic, please contact Jay Cuasay, Director of Christian Formation at 703-430-0811 ext. 130 or Jay.Cuasay@ctrcc.org.
