Our mission is to enrich the spiritual life of all parishioners, through the active participation in prayer and the sacraments, promoting opportunities to grow in faith and hope, and providing a place to come together in the love of God and neighbor. We are committed to the needs of our parishioners and to reach beyond to serve the needs of others. We are called by the Spirit to witness the forgiving, healing and saving presence of Jesus as one Church and one people. (Adopted January 12, 2006)

True Christian Community: Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us in today s scripture readings? Communities of believers everywhere would support and encourage one another and be identified as Christians by the way they love each other. It would be a world with no tears, no death and mourning, no crying out in pain. Behold, I make all things new, we hear the Son of God say in the second reading from the book of Revelation (21:5). Is this world of John s vision only imaginary? Are these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a savior s dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. How much closer can we come to this vision of a true Christian community in our lives today? THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY: Reflection Question of the Week Jesus said, I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. (John 13:34) Adult: How in your family and community have you loved one another in the face of abuse or brokenness? How does prayer to a merciful and compassionate God help you deal with this? Youth: How do you feel loved by Jesus? How do you share this love with others? PEACE & JUSTICE MINISTRY Many thanks to Walk Out of Poverty Team Holy Spirit! Foster Care & Adoption Forum On January 1st of this year, Orangewood became legally mandated to place children into alternative community care within a 10 day period of the courts award. Our Orangewood liaison has informed me that more than 50% of the children they take in are Catholic and are at high risk of ending up in Juvenile Hall, jail or prison if not provided proper care. In addition to the possibility of falling victim to numerous other vices, human trafficking is fast becoming the number one threat to these children. Social services is asking for our help and the help of the entire Catholic community in caring for our kids. They are looking for loving foster care families willing to take in these children, some for very short periods of time, others may be for a much longer time. Keep in mind these are not kids being detained for committing a crime, but are held in protective custody for being a victim of a crime committed against them due to abuse, abandonment or neglect by their parents or guardian. Our diocesan Life, Peace and Justice director and our Pastoral Care director and I have teamed up in a collaborative effort to bring awareness of these children and their needs to our O.C. Catholic communities. On the evening of May 17th we are inviting those interested to attend a presentation and conversation to learn and talk about how to help these children (Please see attached flyer for details). Social Services representatives will be on hand to explain how we can help in addition to a foster care family who will share their experience of being a foster home. Questions and answers will follow the presentation. RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY WATCH ME GROW! Leading up to our Baby Shower Sunday in Sept., we have adopted a real baby boy whose young teen mom has chosen life for her baby and not abortion! We will follow his monthly development beginning with this, the sixth month: aby hears, stretches, nestles in B it s favorite positions. Toenails are visible. Eye color is usually blue because pigment is not yet formed. Bony skeleton is assembled, but no connected at joints. Skull made of 4 soft plates and not yet fused together, so head can become long and narrow when going through birth canal. Very active and growing rapidly. Brain and nervous system are developed enough to control breathing and body temperature. Lungs are able to breath on their own at 26 weeks. Babies born at this stage often survive.
