Readings Acts 4.5-12 5 The next day their rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem, 6 with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of the highpriestly family. 7 When they had made the prisoners stand in their midst, they inquired, By what power or by what name did you do this? 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders; it has become the cornerstone. 12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved. 1 John 3.16-24 16 We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. 17 How does God s love abide in anyone who has the world s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? 18 Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. 19 And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him 20 whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; 22 and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 24 All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us. John 10.11-18 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father. 4

Pew Sheet NEWs: Arrivederci! As you read this on Sunday morning, I will be flying through the air on my way to Rome. Over the next three months, I will be studying Comparative Constitutions and Rights and UN Powers and Policy in Florence, Italy. I am greatly looking forward to this experience and can t wait to share it all with you on my return (and, yes, I will be returning on July 17). Gillian Lamb has kindly agreed to take over the Office Coordinator role in my absence. She will be in the office on both Thursday and Friday mornings. I would like to publicly thank her and the wardens for facilitating this trip. Please ensure notices for the pew sheet continue to be in the office by 5pm on Wednesday. Thank you! If this is your first badge, it is free. Replacements can be purchased for $7.00. Next Week s Readings: Fifth Sunday of Easter Acts 8:26-40 Psalm 22:26-32 1 John 4:7-21 John 15:1-8 5

SURREY HILLS, Vic. Please assemble at 5:45am for 6:00am service. Education for Ministry May 10 EFM is a highly-regarded adult learning program that enables people to see and experience the connection between Christian faith and daily life. St John s Camberwell (552 Burke Road, Camberwell Junction) is holding an information session, with cheese and wine, following the 6.30pm Ascension Day Eucharist on Thursday 10 May. Fr Greg Davies, the national director of EFM Australia, will speak about the program and the possibility of forming an EFM group at St John s, open to interested parishioners from neighbouring parishes. To indicate your interest or find out more, please email hon.secretary@stjohnscamberwell.org.au. Goodbye Trevor! May 20 Trevor will come back on the 20th May to our service so the parish can say thank you and farewell him. He promises to wear his red shoes!! Working with first-year pharmacy students (and fund raising for St Paul's!) May 22 We need a group of 25 people aged 60+ years to spend a morning (2 x half hour sessions) with first-year pharmacy students to give them practice with 'interviewing' people they don't know. This is an opportunity to get involved with the education of future pharmacists and raise money for St. Paul's - a real win-win! Date and time: Tuesday 22 May, from 9am ~12.15pm (morning tea provided) Venue: Parkville campus of Monash University: 381 Royal Parade, Parkville Please contact Laura if you can participate: 0417344566 or laura.dean@monash.edu or speak to Laura at church. 6

Flower and Brass and Casserole Rosters The roster for the flowers and brass covering May, June and July are now in the Narthex to be collected. I am also checking the Casserole Roster and unless people wear their name badges I find it difficult to put names to faces. If you are already on the roster and I have not contacted you please let me know on Sunday after the service so I can update it as soon as possible. Barbara Alderton With Grateful Thanks Thank you Debbie Riley for the gift of The Book of the Gospels and Let us Pray Intercession book. This is a very generous gift and very much appreciated. Incumbency Committee The Parish Council approved the Parish Profile at its meeting on 9/04/18, and this was provided to the Bishop. On Wednesday 11 April, Andrew, Leanne and John met with Bp Paul Barker, Archdeacon Ian Morrison, Rev Phil Meulman and Lay Facilitator Christine Fitzherbert. The Bishop is now contacting potential candidates, and the incumbency committee will then proceed to interviews. The selection process will take a while to discern the best fit for us here at St Paul s. Please uphold Andrew, Leanne and John in prayer. At the Time of Choosing an Incumbent Bountiful God, give to this parish a faithful pastor who will faithfully speak your word and minister your sacraments; an encourager who will equip your people for ministry and enable us to fulfil our calling. Give to John, Leanne and Andrew who will choose, wisdom, discernment and patience, and to us give warm and generous hearts, for Jesus Christ s sake.
