3 UMCOR West Mission Trip Claire McClure, Etha Carruthers, Pastor Mike, Pastor Penny, traveled to Salt Lake City on January 8th with two ladies from Montana (Susan Beley and Bertha Roylance) to spend a few days working at the UMCOR West Depot. We verified 2,688 health kits which filled four pallets. UMCOR is a ministry of The United Methodist Church through the General Board of Global Ministries, and our goal is to assist the most vulnerable persons affected by crisis or chronic need without regard to their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. We believe all people have God-given worth and dignity. UMCOR s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States. We provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own. The depot in Salt Lake City opened in 2009 in a 22,000 square foot warehouse where supplies for six kinds of relief kits and cleaning buckets arrive daily from around the country. Items are sorted into large boxes for health kits, school kits, layette kits, bedding kits, birthing kits, sewing kits, and cleaning buckets. From there already made kits are verified to see that items included are correct and supplies for kits are assembled, then they are boxed to be ready for shipment around the world. These are labeled and stored on pallets in the warehouse until there is a need and UMCOR headquarters arranges to have the kits sent where they are needed. As United Methodists it is a joy to support our world wide ministry each year. We reserved space for next January for our fourth annual MVM Winter Mission Trip. We also reserved space for a Summer Mission Trip to take place July 17-20, 2017. Sign up by May 10th to go this summer! A special offering was taken for UMCOR West at our churches on January 1st. Donations were: Buhl $45 Twin Falls $136, and Hagerman $100. We are still waiting to hear from Jerome, Wendell, and Filer. We thank you for your prayers and know they sustained us and blessed our work, Summer Mission Trip to UMCOR West July 16-20, 2017 Spend 3 days working at the UMCOR West Depot in Salt Lake City! 7 Parsonage Sold The parsonage on Cindy Street was sold in early January. The selling price was $175,000. After commission to the real estate agent and closing fees were paid the church received $162,960. The trustees will be investing the money. As per conference rules, one half of the interest will be reinvested and one half will be used toward our churches portion of the pastors housing allowance. Warm up Twin Falls Donations of hats, scarves, and gloves are still be taken. We will place them outside the church while it is cold or until we run out. As of Christmas Day, about 400 items have been put outside and about 100 more are tagged and will be put out soon Donations continue to come in from our congregation and from members of the community. The City Council thanked us for our support of the community. Electronic Giving Options Available You can give your tithes and offerings by automatic withdrawal from your checking account. This is a great way for you to be certain the church will receive your gifts on a regular basis, even if you are out of town or forget one week. You can also give by debit card or credit card through PayPal. We will soon have a tablet available to swipe your card and make your donation on Sunday. You can also visit our website, www.tffumc.com, and donate there via PayPal. If you are interested, contact the church office to have an electronic funds transfer authorization card sent to you. Building Projects at Twin Falls First UMC The trustees are taking care of several projects this winter. All projects were on the long-term planning list for the trustees, so none of the projects were a surprise. Our Greenslate Funds and Endowment Fund earnings help cover the cost of these projects as well as our ongoing building maintenance, repairs, and insurance coverage. The trustees receive regular updates on the balance of the investments and consider carefully when to use the funds. Donations by church members toward the cost of known projects lets us keep our investments growing for future expenses. If you wish to donate toward the cost of our current projects, please mark your check building projects. Projects include: Furnaces: Two rooftop units and one indoor furnace and air conditioning unit have been replaced as a cost of $19,780. Sound System: A new sound board was purchased after a power surge damaged the old one. The cost of sound board was $1,487. The trustees are looking into the possibility of updating the speakers and other sound equipment in the sanctuary. Graffiti: The exterior of the building was tagged with graffiti which was removed at a cost of $321. Interior Vandalism: There have been a few incidents of vandalism inside the building. Some areas have been repaired by volunteers and a bid for the cost of repairs to those beyond the abilities of volunteers are being requested and expected to be about $2,000. Due to the interior vandalism, the trustees are looking into the cost of a security system to monitor building entrances and the areas where there has been vandalism. A list of all projects (major and minor) which have been completed, which are in process, and which need to be done was shared with church council members and is available from the church office for any church member. Donations totaling $3,400 have been received toward our building projects. Link Your Fred Meyer and Smiths Cards to TFFUMC? Your Fred Meyer and Smiths Reward cards can be linked to our church. They donate a percentage of all our sales to the church once per quarter. Be sure your card is linked. Go to www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards. Our number with Fred Meyer is 80852. 8 Thank you to volunteers! Thank you to everyone who helped clean the education wing rooms. The rooms were ready to welcome Jump Company and the Magic Valley Commonwealth School. Thanks to everyone who provided cookies and salads for the Jones family. Flood Update The recent snowfall, rain, and melting led to several floods at the church. Leaks in the roof were found in the balcony, the elevator, and between the old building and the education wing. Clean up is underway. Repair to the roof will take place as soon as damage can be assessed and repairs to the interior will be done soon after. A claim will be filed with our insurance. Much appreciation to Kevin Wright, Dawn Bunn, Tyson Wright, Brenda Manning, Sharon Bryan, and Ted Deetz for their work to clean up, remove snow and make arrangements for repairs and insurance coverage. Thank you! On behalf of the members of the Twin Falls Senior Center and the members of this fine community, we gratefully acknowledge your gracious donation of $600. Our efforts to continue serving the elderly of this community are blessed by those like you who support and contribute in many ways furthering the needs and services that provide the highest quality meals, services, and activities of our beloved seniors. Each special donation makes a difference in the lives of so many we serve and we appreciate it more than words can express. (note: half of Twin Falls First UMC Christmas Eve offering was donated to the Senior Center). Jeanette Roe financial director Cemetery Plots at Sunset Memorial for Sale The church owns two cemetery plots at Sunset Memorial Park which were donated to our church many years ago. The church is offering them for sale to those in our church family for $1,500 each (current cost from the cemetery is $1,895 each). If you are interested contact the church office. Thank You Greetings! I really appreciate the time, talent, and thoughtfulness that has gone into providing hats, gloves, and scarves for needy people. Thank you very much, to each of you who helped make it happen. Have a joyous, New Year! Love in Christ, Phyllis Berg First Sunday Food Drive Each month the Twin Falls congregation holds a food drive on the first Sunday. Food can be left at the church any time. The food is donated to the Twin Falls School District food pantries which help hungry kids and families. Food may be left on the table in the Friendship Room.
