(LARGE PRINT BULLETINS and COPIES OF THE SERMON available from Ushers and FM Hearing Assistance from the Sound Operator) * Congregation, please stand in body or spirit Service of Worship April 22, 2018 WE GATHER PRELUDE: Le Coucou, by Louis-Claude Daquin (1694 1772) WORDS OF WELCOME AND CELEBRATION OF BIRTHDAYS Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, God bless you and keep you the coming year through. WE LIGHT THE CHRIST CANDLE * OPENING THE BIBLE WE WORSHIP * INTROIT: Oh a Song Must Rise MV # 142 CALL TO WORSHIP: Come! Heed the cooing of the dove calling us to worship. As the dove s song lulls our minds to quiet, let us open our hearts to the song of the Holy Spirit. Come! Join the birds of the air and the animals of the earth in praising God
As we leave the world behind for a short time, we open our hearts and minds to the Holy Spirit and to God s wisdom. Come! Join together in song and praise and the search for understanding We come, singing, praising and seeking. Thanks be to God. PRAYER OF APPROACH AND CONFESSION Lord Jesus, you have returned to us as the Risen Christ, guiding and supporting us on our journeys. We need your constant presence, directing us to live our lives modelled on the example of Jesus. Come! Come to this place of worship with your heart and mind and soul. Come and worship the lord your God! Before the work of the day starts, before the rummaging for food, before the building of nests, the birds of the air gather in the treetops to sing praises to the creator. The birds gather in the trust that God will provide. Let us gather as one with the example that Jesus set. We admit that so often We have chosen actions that benefit us but may harm those around us We have chosen actions that harm the environment, rather than honour your creation We have chosen actions that destroy the habitats and food sources of the birds and animals We have chosen anger and jealousy over compassion We have chosen words and tones that damage relationships with others. God of love, God of all creation, God of relationships, forgive us. Help us to open our hearts to your love and forgiveness. Amen. WORDS OF ASSURANCE JESUS PRAYER: (in unison)! 2
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen * HYMN: Spirit God, Be Our Breath MV # 150 WE DISCERN GOD S WORD PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION: As we breathe deeply, let us quiet our minds As we relax our bodies, let us turn to the Holy Like the cooing of the dove, let us murmur welcome to the Holy Spirit Come Holy Spirit, come Silence Merciful God, thank you for your word made known in Jesus Christ. Bless us with understanding and the desire to bring your heaven to earth. Are you wondering how you can use your special talents, become more involved in the life of City View and help us fulfill our Mission Statement: To be a welcoming and inclusive Christian Community, growing spiritually and caring for those in need? There are many teams or committees that help make the spiritual and community-building experience at City View as rich and fulfilling as it is. The Nominating Committee is trying to make sure that all these groups have the right people to carry out their ministries over the coming year. The following groups in particular need new volunteers this year: The Mission and Outreach Team raises awareness of Christian social justice issues and encourages active participation in dealing with these issues. The Property Team oversees the maintenance of the church facilities and surrounding property. Experience in construction and renovation is an asset but the team is intended to manage projects like the recent repair of the sanctuary roof rather than doing the work themselves. The Worship and Education Committee promotes congregational participation in meaningful worship and lifelong Christian development as well as coordinating the Sunday School, Youth Group and nursery. Other vacancies that might interest you exist in other committees or teams such as Communications and Events, Finance and Administration and the Board of Trustees. Please contact Karl Tibelius if you would like to find out more about any of these opportunities to enrich the life of City View.
