SERVICE TIMES Sundays at 8:00, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. Communion served the 1st Sunday of each month Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Communion served weekly OFFICE HOURS Tuesday - Thursday 9:30-3:00 Friday 9:30-2:30 SCRIPTURE FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4 2018 Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Sermon Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. SECURITY PANEL AND ALARM CODE CHANGE For those that use the building and need to know, our Alarm System panel has changed. When arming the alarm, input the pass code and press away. When disarming the alarm, input the pass code and press stay. The current pass code will be changed for the alarm system as well as the keybox on Tuesday, March 6th. If you require the new code please contact the church office.

What is Pub Theology? Pub Theology is an opportunity to gather, have meaningful conversations, build relationships, and have a great time. It is an opportunity to share some brews and share your views, and all viewpoints are welcome. You are invited to be there for great food, good drinks, and interesting conversation, led by Pastor Sean and Pastor Brian Johnson at Giuseppe's in Haymarket - the event is co-hosted by Gainesville UMC and Haymarket Church. ALTAR FLOWERS AND SPECIAL MUSIC The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God. A note of thanks to Patrick Weaver and the Young Women's Ensemble, Chancel Choir and Anna Lopacinski for the special music this Sunday. FINANCIAL PEACE Would you like to learn how to control your money and have a financial plan for the future? Take part in the upcoming Financial Peace class beginning February 21st and run through April 25th (no class on March 28th). Classes will be on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00. For more information please click here. BASKETS FOR MISSION AUCTION Each year for our Mission Auction we create themed baskets for bid. This requires an

assortment of sizes & shapes. If you have baskets that are in good shape & you are willing to donate them to this wonderful event please drop them off in the bin within the entrance of the church marked YOUTH MISSION AUCTION. MISSION AUCTION DINNER This year's mission auction is coming up on Saturday, March 3rd. Our annual auction is the big fundraiser we do every year for our mission projects and they're always great evenings. This year's theme is Hawaiian Luau, so dig through your closet to find a few Hawaiian shirts! Tickets will go on sale in February. We're also looking for auction item donations from the congregation. Anything from gift cards and small goods all the way up to use of a timeshare would be greatly appreciated! The one thing we do ask is that whatever is donated be new rather than used. If you're interested in donating or would like to help with the setup for the auction, please contact our Youth Director, Bert Miller at youth@gumchurch.com. See you then! We are also in need of baskets of all shapes and sizes so that we can create gift baskets! NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL CHECK IN PROCESS 2018 is a year of change for us here at GUMC. Starting this Sunday, we will have a new check-in process for our Nursery through Elementary aged Sunday School children. Children will be checked in before the start of the service on this date and moving forward. Our new check in procedure will involve using an electronic system to check in children and name tags will be issued for the children and guardians. We look at this as a positive step in safety for the new year. Please be patient with us while we work out the kinks in our new check-in process.
