*Prayer of Adoration (unison) Holy God, through signs of grace you reveal your glory to all the world. Open our eyes to the hidden and surprising wonders you perform, that we may believe with our minds and trust in our hearts that you alone are Lord of all creation. Through Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen. Call to Confession In the light of Christ, we see the darkness of our world and of our hearts. Trusting in God s saving love, let us confess our sin. Prayer of Confession (unison) Almighty God, 1 Corinthians 12:2 we confess that we have been led astray by the idols of our world. We have depended on our possessions and have not placed our trust in your grace. We have carelessly consumed the gifts you offer and have failed to be faithful stewards of the earth s resources. We have sought security in the might of the sword rather than the strength of your Holy Spirit. Forgive us, we pray. Lead us to true repentence that we may serve you faithfully. Through Christ we pray. Amen. (Silence is observed for personal reflection.) Kyrie Alfred V. Fedak

Why do you think God envisioned a year of jubilee, and what might that look like in our world today? Westminster Class: Jan. 17 through Feb. 21: Dr. Keith Lloyd, Kent State Professor of Bible, English, and Rhetoric will return to our class and be with us for six weeks. He will teach around the theme of Rhetoric in both the Old and New Testaments. When we think of the word rhetoric in a modern sense, we sometimes imagine politicians and the mindless drivel to which they sometimes attach themselves. But Rhetoric, in the best classical sense, is the logical and disciplined method by which arguments are made and advanced. Dr. Lloyd will take this classical definition of Rhetoric into the Bible and illustrate how some exemplary Scriptural arguments were made. To do so, he will take into account objectives of poets, prophets, priests, historians, and apostles who made them, as well as cultural contexts and influences that helped shape them. Jammin Jammies Sunday at Christ Church! Hey kids! Put on your comfiest jammies for church Sunday, January 24. We ll have extra special fun in Kids Church that morning! Choral Evensong for the Beginning of Lent Sunday, February 21, 2016 @ 4:00 pm (CPC Chancel Choir) Music of the 16th Century Tudors: Tallis, Byrd, Morley, and Gibbons Anthems, canticles, hymns, prayers, chants, and psalms: transporting us from the mundane to the spiritual. Tudor Church Music is sacred choral music on a diet ; it sounds like we are trimming down for spring! The simplicity, the trim choral lines, the lack of flamboyant expression, the austere beauty of textures, unadorned intelligibility: these are the delectable qualities of the accessible efficient nourishment the worshiper draws from the music of Thomas Tallis, William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons and Thomas Morley. William Byrd was organist of the Chapel Royal; Orlando Gibbons was the leading English composer of his generation, as he held positions as Organist of the Royal Chapel and finally organist at Westminster Abbey. Thomas Morley wrote music for the liturgy of the Church of England, as he was employed at St. Paul's in London, becoming a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal in 1592. Organ Recital and Silent Film Tom Trenney, organist Friday, 11 March, 2016 @ 7:30pm Big Business starring Laurel and Hardy One Week starring Buster Keaton Freewill donation will be received; and of course, popcorn will be served! Known for his engaging improvisations on hymns, submitted themes, silent films, scripture, poetry, and artwork, Tom Trenney became the first organist to be awarded both First Prize and Audience Prize in the American Guild of Organists (AGO) National Competition in Organ Improvisation in 2006. Tom has performed at Royce Hall (UCLA), the Schermerhorn Symphony Hall (Nashville), Benaroya Hall (Seattle), Ocean Grove Auditorium (New Jersey), Portland Municipal Auditorium (Maine), Spreckels Organ Pavilion (San Diego), and Verizon Hall at Kimmel Center (Philadelphia); and has served as organist and clinician at regional and national conventions of the American Guild of Organists, the Organ Historical Society, the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, National Association of Pastoral Musicians, the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, and the Calvin Institute of Worship. This is a return engagement at Christ Church since his youthful triumphant performance here fourteen years ago.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rev. Dave de Vries. Food, Clothing, and Prayer Ministry: If you happened to be in our Church on the morning of December 23, you witnessed the Grace of God in a most special way. The FCP Ministry hosted families for our second annual Christmas Gathering. The music and laughter could be heard the moment you entered the door! Over 128 families joined us last month as we enjoyed coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts to start the fes vi es. The en re Westminster Hall was filled with tables of volunteers and families- caroling, mingling, laughing and ge ng to know one another be er. The cra table was busy from start to finish with adults and children excited to make ornaments for their holidays. A special thank you to everyone involved in kni ng hats and scarves. We set up a table overflowing with your beau ful crea ons. As people lined up to receive their groceries they were able to choose something hand made from that table. It was so rewarding to watch the excitement on their faces as each person chose their special gi. The most heartwarming part of our Christmas gathering, though, had nothing to do with presents or food. Knowing that the holidays can be a trying me, we set up Prayer Partner tables in Cloister Hall and announced that anyone who wished to talk or pray with one of our Prayer Partners during the morning could do so. We hoped that a couple of people might take advantage of this me. As it turned out over 20 people joined us in this special prayer me- a true tes mony to how important all aspects of our Ministry are to the people we serve. Thank you all for helping make this a most special day. By the end of the party, I m not sure who felt the most rewarded, the clients or volunteers! Blessings and many thanks for your help and dona ons- Lorraine Murphy and all of our FCP volunteers
