Prayer is so strategic, does so much damage to satan's kingdom, that he will do anything to distract or sidetrack you, intimidate you, including encouraging you to be so busy or feel so tired you will not take time to pray. Luke 18:1 Love, Pastor Thompson Our Vision Statement "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18 19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ.

KINGDOMTIED August 24 November 28 (The pulpit attire is Green) We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. The cloths on the Communion table and podium are changed to coincide with each season of the Christian calendar. KINGDOMTIDE runs from August 24 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. General Theme For This Quarter: COVENANT COMMUNITIES The study this quarter focuses on God s covenant as manifested in communities. It highlights persons God chose as covenant leaders, the invitations God offered to enter into community, people s responses to the invitations, and the nature of God s new covenant community. We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: UNIT #3 AN OPEN INVITATION TO COVENANT LIVING In these four lessons, stories are taken from the book of Mark in which Jesus interacted with people and invited them to live in living in covenant with God. THIS WEEK S LESSON: A CHOSEN PEOPLE 1 Peter 2:1 10 Peter called the people to come together in faith and form a new community. He taught that salvation includes an ongoing process of being build into a spiritual house where Christ is the foundation and cornerstone. The people of God are called to proclaim God s amazing deeds. The way we live sends a clear signal about who we are and what we believe. What distinguishes members of the Christian church from other groups? Peter teaches that we are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, whose purpose is to declare God s mighty acts, as Peter did in Acts 4. NEXT WEEK S LESSON: November 15, 2009 A SUFFERING PEOPLE 1 Peter 4:12-19 Peter teachers how Christians are to respond when they suffer for the sake of the Gospel. Life tests us in many ways. How are we to respond t the trials and sufferings that come our way? Peter believed that those who suffer as Christians are to rejoice as they follow Christ, even as the apostles did when they were arrested for teaching people about Jesus. CLASSES FOR EVERYONE!! MOBC November is Adoption Month But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba, Father! Galatians 4:4 6 (NKJV) EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY SPEAKING THE TRUTH.DISPELLING ADOPTION MYTHS MYTHS VS TRUTH All children in foster care are bad seeds. Only Cliff and Claire Huxtable can adopt. There s too much red tape to go through. It cost too much to Adopt. There are no African American families out there to adopt waiting children. I m single. I cannot adopt. When the child grows up, he/she will want to return to their birth parents. You can t mold a child who is over five years old. His/her values are already set. Each child is different and in care for different reasons. All types of families can adopt. The Adoption process is complex; but it s worth it, and we re here to assist you through it. There is a minimal if any costs for the adoption of many African American children and for most of the children for whom we work. African American families are out there. It s our job to educate; reach out; to recruit. Single parent families are a great resource for many waiting children. Many of our families are single families. Many children will want to find out who their birth parents are or where they come from but most often it s a desire to know heritage or to make a connection not a desire to return. We will help you understand that phenomenon and work through it. Human beings have the capacity to learn, grow, and change throughout their lifetime. Tierra Age 11 Meet Tierra a young girl with lots of dreams and potential! She hopes her future includes a loving family that provides encouragement and support as she grows up and follow her dreams. Tierra is a very bright and mature preteen. She does well in school. She is a youngster who has a lot of love to give to the right family that will open their hearts and home to happy childhood full of fun and great experiences will defi nitely be in Tierra s future.
