Evening Prayer THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Transcription:

CHRIST OUR KING You are the King of Glory, O Christ. At the name of Jesus every knee will bend. Alleluia. Jesus Christ, although He shared God s nature, did not try to seize equality with God for Himself; but emptied Himself, took on the form of a slave, and became like a man: not in appearance only, for He humbled Himself by accepting death, even death on a cross. For this, God has raised Him high, and given Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bend, in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue will proclaim Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Philippians 2 PRAYER Almighty and merciful God, You break the power of evil and make all things new in Your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe. May all in heaven and earth acclaim Your glory and never cease to praise You. The glorious company of the Apostles: praises You. The goodly fellowship of the Prophets: praises You. The noble army of Martyrs: praises You. The holy Church throughout all the world: acknowledges You.

HYMN Let all mortal flesh keep silence, And with fear and trembling stand; Ponder nothing earthly minded, For with blessing in His hand, Christ our God to earth descendeth, Our full homage to demand. King of kings, yet born of Mary, As of old on earth He stood, Lord of lords, in human vesture, In the body and the blood; He will give to all the faithful His own self for heavenly food. Rank on rank the host of heaven Spreads its vanguard on the way, As the Light of light descendeth From the realms of endless day, That the powers of hell may vanish As the darkness clears away. At His feet the six wingèd seraph, Cherubim with sleepless eye, Veil their faces to the presence, As with ceaseless voice they cry: Alleluia, Alleluia Alleluia, Lord Most High! SCRIPTURE: Revelation 1:4-8 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him Who is and Who was and Who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the Faithful Witness, the Firstborn of the Dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him Who loves us and freed us from our sins by His blood, and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and on His account all the tribes of the earth will wail. So it is to be. Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty. REFLECTION Let us be thankful to Christ the King for having called us to partake in His eternal Kingdom. Let us always remain loyal to Christ who is the Head of the Body, the Church. Christ Jesus Victor! Christ Jesus Ruler! Christ Jesus, Lord and Redeemer!

PRAYER TO CHRIST THE KING Almighty and merciful God, You break the power of evil and make all things new in Your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe. May all in heaven and on earth acclaim Your glory and never cease to praise You. Father all-powerful, God of love, You have raised our Lord Jesus Christ from death to life, resplendent in glory as King of Creation. Open our hearts; free all the world to rejoice in His peace, to glory in His justice, and to live in His love. Bring all humanity together in Jesus Christ Your Son Whose Kingdom is with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Looking for the king Christ lives in the prisoner. Whenever we see the captive and the lost, we see Christ. Serving in the palace Christ lives in the homeless. Whenever we touch the last and the least, we touch Christ. Listening for the powerful Christ lives in the vulnerable. Whenever to hear the frail and the lonely, we hear Christ. PRAYERS of INTERCESSION As we acknowledge Christ our Lord and King, let us offer these prayers and petitions to the Father in His name. Response after each intercession: LONG LIVE JESUS CHRIST! That the Church will be a worthy servant of the Gospel and direct the people of God toward the promised kingdom, we pray to the Lord That world leaders will govern justly and wisely, and strive for true peace, justice and harmony we pray to the Lord That in Christ, the King of Justice and Life, the evils of abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia may be eliminated from our midst, we pray to the Lord...

That the world s harvest will be gathered and shared among all people, especially those who are in most need, we pray to the Lord That more men and women will generously accept the call to serve Christ and His Church as priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters, and dedicated lay ministers we pray to the Lord That the departed may enjoy the peace and endless life of heaven with Christ our King, we pray to the Lord Let us pray: God of love, our refuge and our strength, hear the prayers of your Church, and grant us the grace to be ever faithful to You as we faithfully accept Your will in our regard. Amen. HYMN To Jesus Christ, our Sov'reign King, Who is the world's salvation, All praise and homage do we bring, And thanks and adoration. Refrain: Christ Jesus Victor, Christ Jesus Ruler! Christ Jesus, Lord and Redeemer! 2. Thy reign extend, O King benign, To ev'ry land and nation, For in Thy kingdom, Lord divine, Alone we find salvation. (Refrain) 3. To Thee and to Thy Church, great King, We pledge our hearts' oblation, Until before Thy throne we sing, In endless jubilation. (Refrain) Saint John Baptist de La Salle and all you holy Brothers who have gone before us, assist us in dedicating our life and work to Christ the King. Live Jesus in our hearts. Forever! Long live Christ the King! Blessed Miquel Pro, S.J. martyred November 23, 1927 in Mexico
