Christ the King A Celebration of Christ s Reign in the Seasons of the Church Year FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH November 20, 2011 1
THE CHURCH YEAR For centuries, the Christian Church has worshiped according to the Church Year. The Church Year begins in December with the season of Advent. The first six months of the church year (December through May) follow the life of Christ from his birth until his suffering, death, and resurrection on Easter Sunday. The second six months of the church year (June through November) follow the teachings of Christ. We are now approaching the close of the Church Year and the beginning of another. To mark the end of this year, the Church celebrates the Season of Endtimes. Endtimes reminds us that the time is short, and our Savior is coming again soon. The Sundays in Endtimes: 1. Last Judgment, where we remember that Christ is coming to judge the living and the dead 2. Saints Triumphant, when we remember the eternal glory enjoyed by the saints in heaven glory prepared and waiting for us 3. Christ the King, when we remember that the entire Church Year celebrates the rule of Christ over our hearts now and forever. 2
