TORAH, GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS EXODUS 34 TEN COMMANDMENTS EXODUS 35 TABERNACLE CONSTRUCTION Say - Welcome to Sabbath School class. Let's bow our head and ask God for understanding as we continue our study of the book of Exodus. Exodus 34 Say God had Moses hew two tables of stone like unto the first set and God would write on them the Ten Commandments. 1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first (You broke it; you fix it.): and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest. 2And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount. 3 And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount. 4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone. 5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth (These are all attributes of God; God was renewing the terms of the former covenant.), 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin (But not for those who are not willing to repent of sin and follow His Commandments.), and that will by no means clear the guilty (of sin); visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation (A family should realize what we do affects our family for generations. Just like the children of the Israelites; the children paid the price for their parents disobedience to God for they could not be in the Promised Land.) 8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O LORD, let my LORD, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people (rebellious people); and pardon our iniquity (lawlessness) and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance (Moses wanted God s divine presence with the people.). 10And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among

which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. 11 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee (God said don t make peace agreements with the inhabitants of the land and it is still going on today. Why did God say this; read the next few verses.): 13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: 14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: 15 Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; (One will start and the rest will follow as it is today; it is demonic and God did not want His people to follow false gods and it is the same today. False worship to a false god cannot be mixed with the worship of the true God.) 16And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods (God s law said, 3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly Deuteronomy 7:3-4. This is good advice from God today.). 17Thou shalt make thee no molten gods (God s law said 17 And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them: 18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations Deuteronomy 29:17-18. God reminds them they are to keep unto Him and worship and serve Him.). 18The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee (How many are doing what God commanded today.), in the time of the month Abib (Springtime): for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt. 19 All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male. 20 But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a (male) lamb (an ass or donkey is an unclean meat so it must be redeemed for a lamb): and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty (God was speaking about the specific items they were to bring.). 2

21Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest (Don t be lazy; we must work through the week but the 7 th day is the rest or holy day of God s.). 22And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end (These are God s Holy Days which are centered on Him not on a false god.). 23 Thrice (three) in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel. 24For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God thrice in the year. 25Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning (would rot and be unclean). 26The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk (Many pagans would take a newborn from its mother and God said don t do it; it is cruel.). 27And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel. 28And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water (The Bible tells us 18 And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. 19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also Deuteronomy 9:18-19. Moses fasted for God s people just as Christ fasted for us and our sins; this symbolized we should be like Christ and Moses in fasting and praying for others and not destroy them. We are also told Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God Matthew 4:4). And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. 29And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not (knew not) that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. 30And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him (because they had disobeyed God and were guilty for they had made an idol). 31And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them (First Moses talked to the leaders and then to the people all God had told him.). 3

32And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai (Moses told the people all God had given him on the Mt.; the statutes, judgments and laws.). 33And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face (When Moses came down from speaking to God his face glowed from being in God s presence, verses 29-35. Moses put a veil on his face so the people would not be terrified by the brightness of his face. In 2 Corinthians we are told 14 But their minds were blinded (they did not understand and it is the same today, many do not understand the Laws of God): for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament (meaning the Law of God); which vail is done away in Christ (It is through Christ we receive salvation and He removes the veil of deception we have been taught.). 15 But even unto this day, when Moses (the Law) is read, the vail is upon their heart. 16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away (When one repents of sin and is spiritually circumcised and turns to God the veil shall be taken away and there will be spiritually understanding for the very first time of the Truth of God.). 34But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. 35And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone (Moses was beaming): and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him (What was the purpose of the veil ; when people disobeyed God they could not stand the light but as long as God s people obeyed Him, they liked the light. Here is what the Bible tells us 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all (Spiritual darkness is lawlessness; God is not part dark or part light for He has no fables, no superstition and that is what man-made religions are.). 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light (In God s Truth, in His laws and in His ways), as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin (But if we do not follow Him and repent of our sins, God does not forgive us.). Exodus 35 Say Building the Tabernacle/tent; the tabernacle was a physical replica of the spiritual and God wanted all to build it. 1 And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them (If you love me keep my commandments; remember the Bible tells 4

us 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: John 15:16). 2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD (Cannot expect a spiritually blind person to understand this statement; understand there are limitations.): whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death. 3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day (It took a lot of work to gather wood and bundle it up and build a fire; they were to gather the wood on Friday, the Preparation Day and throw it on the fire.). 4And Moses spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD commanded, saying, 5Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart (This is the beginning of an obedient heart), let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass, 6 And blue, and purple, and scarlet (don t bring green), and fine linen, and goats' hair, 7 And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood (All of these things came from Egypt but God owns everything.), 8 And oil for the light, and spices for anointing oil, and for the sweet incense, 9 And onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod, and for the breastplate. 10 And every wise hearted among you shall come, and make all that the LORD hath commanded (If you have those talents come and don t hide your talents.); 11 The tabernacle, his tent, and his covering, his taches (clasps), and his boards, his bars, his pillars, and his sockets, 12 The ark, and the staves thereof, with the mercy seat (ark cover and meant to atone for), and the vail of the covering, 13 The table, and his staves, and all his vessels, and the shewbread, 14 The candlestick also for the light, and his furniture, and his lamps, with the oil for the light, 15And the incense altar, and his staves, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the hanging for the door at the entering in of the tabernacle, 16 The altar of burnt offering, with his brasen grate, his staves, and all his vessels, the laver and his foot (base), 17 The hangings of the court, his pillars, and their sockets, and the hanging for the door of the court, 18 The pins of the tabernacle, and the pins of the court, and their cords, 19 The cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office. 20And all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses. 21 And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up (by God s spirit), and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD's offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments. 5

22And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the LORD (Melted the jewelry and used it for the right purpose.). 23And every man, with whom was found blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair, and red skins of rams, and badgers' skins, brought them. 24Every one that did offer an offering of silver and brass brought the LORD's offering: and every man, with whom was found shittim wood for any work of the service, brought it. 25And all the women that were wise hearted did spin with their hands, and brought that which they had spun, both of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine linen. 26 And all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun goats' hair. 27And the rulers brought onyx stones, and stones to be set, for the ephod, and for the breastplate; 28 And spice, and oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense. 29 The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD (the totality of the body of Christ), every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses. 30And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the LORD hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; 32 And to devise curious works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 33 And in the cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of wood, to make any manner of cunning work (Remember we studied God had called Bezaleel to do the work on the Tabernacle/tent; Moses had nothing to do with whom God chose.). 34And he hath put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan (Aholiab was Bezaleel s helper.). 35 Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work (Is saying everything Bezaleel does is of God not self. It is the same with our calling, God works in us it is not human reasoning.). MEMORY VERSE: 29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not (knew not) that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. Exodus 34:29. BELOW IS THE SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR TOTS AND YOUTH 6

GOD HAD MOSES MAKE TWO TABLES OF STONE FOR THE SECOND SET OF TEN COMMANDMENTS AND THE BEGINNING OF CONSTRUCTION OF THE TABERNACLE/TENT GODS SAID UNTO MOSES, HEW TWO TABLES OF STONE LIKE UNTO THE FIRST AND I WILL WRITE UPON THESE TABLES THE WORDS THAT WERE ON THE FIRST TABLES ; MOSES BROKE THE FIRST SET OF TEN COMMANDMENTS AND GOD WANTED MOSES TO MAKE THE SECOND SET BECAUSE HE HAD BROKEN THEM. GOD TOLD MOSES BE READY IN THE MORNING TO COME UP TO MT. SINAI AND PRESENT YOURSELF TO ME ON THE TOP OF THE MOUNT; NO ONE SHALL COME WITH YOU OR ANY OF THEIR FLOCKS OR HERDS ARE TO BE WITH YOU; YOU MUST COME ALONE. MOSES HEWED TWO TABLES OF STONE LIKE UNTO THE FIRST AND ROSE UP EARLY AND WENT UP TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNT; THE LORD DESCENDED IN THE CLOUD AND STOOD WITH MOSES FOR THE LORD IS GRACIOUS, LONGSUFFERING AND ABUNDANT IN GOODNESS AND MERCY. MOSES BOWED HIS HEAD TOWARD THE EARTH AND WORSHIPPED GOD AND SAID IF I HAVE FOUND GRACE IN YOUR SIGHT, I PRAY THAT YOU WILL GO AMONG US AND BE OUR GOD; EVEN THOUGH WE ARE A STIFF-NECKED PEOPLE, PARDON OUR LAW- LESSNESS AND TAKE US FOR YOUR INHERITANCE; MOSES WANTED GOD S DIVINE PRESENCE WITH HIM ALWAYS. GOD SAID, DO NOT MAKE AN AGREEMENT OR A COVENANT WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND FOR IT COULD BE A SNARE UNTO YOU; GOD S PEOPLE WERE TO DESTROY THEIR ALTARS, IMAGES AND CUT DOWN THEIR GROVES WHERE THEY WORSHIPPED FALSE GODS. 7

GOD TOLD MOSES, TELL MY PEOPLE NOT TO MARRY THEIR DAUGHTERS FOR THEY WILL TURN AWAY FROM FOLLOWING ME AND SERVE OTHER GOD WHICH ARE FALSE GODS; THEY SHALL NOT MAKE ANY IDOLS OF WOOD OR STONE OR OF SILVER OR GOLD FOR THEY ARE TO WORSHIP ME ONLY. THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD THEY SHALL KEEP IN THE MONTH OF ABIB OR SPRINGTIME FOR IT WAS IN THE SPRINGTIME THAT I BROUGHT THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT; SIX DAYS SHALL THEY WORK BUT ON THE SEVENTH DAY THEY SHALL REST; THEY SHALL OBSERVE THE FEAST OF WEEKS AND THE FEAST OF INGATHERING IN THE END OF THE YEAR. GOD SAID UNTO MOSES, WRITE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR I HAVE MADE A COVENANT OR AGREEMENT WITH THEE AND WITH THE 12 TRIBES OF ISRAEL; MOSES WAS ON THE MOUNT FORTY DAYS AND FORTY NIGHTS AND HE DID NOT EAT BREAD NOR DRINK WATER FOR MOSES FASTED FOR THE PEOPLE; MOSES WAS A GOOD SHEPHERD. WHEN MOSES CAME DOWN THE MOUNT WITH THE TWO TABLES OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS HIS FACE WAS GLOWING FROM BEING IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD; THE PEOPLE WERE AFRAID TO COME NEAR HIM SO MOSES PUT A VEIL ON HIS FACE; MOSES TALKED TO THE 12 TRIBES OF ISRAEL AND TOLD THEM ALL THE STATUTES AND LAWS GOD HAD GIVEN HIM FOR HIS PEOPLE ON THE MT. NOW IT WAS TIME TO BEGIN TO BUILD THE TABERNACLE FOR GOD; MOSES GATHERED ALL THE PEOPLE TOGETHER AND TOLD THEM WHAT GOD WANTED THEM TO BRING AS AN OFFERING FOR THE TABERNACLE; WHOMEVER IS OF A WILLING HEART LET HIM BRING AN OFFERING TO THE LORD OF GOLD, SILVER AND BRASS AND BLUE, PURPLE AND SCARLET LINEN; NO OTHER COLOR. 8

BRING RAM S SKINS DYED RED AND BADGERS SKINS AND ACACIA WOOD; ALSO BRING OIL FOR THE LIGHT AND SPICES FOR THE ANOINTING OIL AND FOR THE SWEET INCENSE; BRING ONYX STONES AND STONES TO BE SET IN THE EPHOD AND FOR THE BREASTPLATE EVERY WISE HEARTED AMONG YOU COME AND BRING YOUR TALENTS TO DO THE WORK. THE TABERNACLE NEEDS CLASPS, BOARDS, BARS, PILLARS AND SOCKETS; THE ARK NEEDS A COVERING OR MERCY SEAT AND A VAIL TO DIVIDE THE HOLY PLACE FROM THE MOST HOLY PLACE; ALSO THE TABLE FOR THE SHEWBREAD AND ALL THE VESSELS USED FOR THE SERVICE OF GOD; BRING THE CANDLESTICK FOR THE LIGHT AND THE OIL FOR THE LIGHT. ALL THE PEOPLE DEPARTED FROM THE PRESENCE OF MOSES AND EVERYONE HAD A STIRRED UP HEART AND BROUGHT THE LORD S OFFERING TO THE WORK FOR THE TABERNACLE; THEY CAME BOTH MEN AND WOMEN AS MANY AS HAD A WILLING HEART AND BROUGHT BRACELETS, EARINGS, RINGS, AND JEWELS OF GOLD. EVERY MAN BROUGHT BLUE, PURPLE AND SCARLET AND FINE LINEN AND GOATS HAIR AND RED SKINS OF RAMS AND BADGERS SKINS; THEY BROUGHT ACACIA WOOK FOR THE WORK OF THE SERVICE; THE WOMEN SPUN WITH THEIR HANDS THE GOAT S HAIR AND THE RULERS BROUGHT ONYX STONES FOR THE EPHOD AND FOR THE BREASTPLATE AND SPICES AND OIL FOR THE LIGHT AND FOR THE SWEET INCENSE. GOD HAD CALLED BEZALEEL AND HAD FILLED HIM WITH THE WISDOM IN UNDERSTANING FOR ALL THE WORKMANSHIP OF THE TABERNACLE; AHOLIAB WAS BEZALEEL S HELPER WHOM GOD HAD FILLED WITH WISDOM ALSO TO DO THE WORK OF THE TABERNACLE; THIS WAS A GOOD BEGINNING OF BUILDING THE TABERNACLE. 9
