NOR SCOTTARIAN Periodical Postage Paid at Eldridge, Iowa ROTARY CLUB OF NORTH SCOTT PO Box 52 Eldridge, IA 52748 NorScottarian (USPS 339-290) is published weekly except the weeks of July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the week between Christmas and New Year s, for $5 per year by the Rotary Club of North Scott, PO Box 52, Eldridge, IA 52748. Periodicals postage paid at Eldridge, IA 52748 POSTMASTER: Send address changes to NorScottarian, PO Box 52, Eldridge, IA 52748 December 9, 2011 Decker Ploehn Open Golf Championship Seventy two Rotarians and guests were present on December 9 to hear Decker Ploehn tell about his trip(s) to the Open Golf Championship held in Sandwich, England. He has been working with the John Deere Classic since 2001 and in recent years has flown to England with the players, immediately following the JDC. Decker showed many interesting pictures of England, which he gave his wife, Jayne, credit for taking. It rained a lot while they were there this past year, so it was cold and dreary. The tournament is held next to the North Sea and large swarms of people follow the good golfers around the course. The golfers that fly to England from Moline go on the private plane belonging to the Dallas Mavericks. They each pay $1250 for the flight. This money goes to Charity, as the John Deere Classic pays for the use of the plane. Decker went to the Rotary Club of Glasgow and to a city council meeting while in England. December 9 was the final meeting for the first group of high school students. Another group will start on February 3. Attending were: Ben Pashon, Caroline Roa & Julie Fulton from Davenport Assumption, Dylan Beyhl and Dr. Betsy Fair from Davenport North, and Katie Swoboda, Cody Birely and Tracey Denahy from North Scott. Other guests were Bettendorf Rotarian Scott Naumann, Chuck Gipson, guest of Linda Frederiksen, Ardy and Ken Steine and Marlene Bloomer all guests of Lorraine Lynch. Also prospective guests Christine Garrow and Gene Meyer. Chris Connolly proudly gave $20 to the Foundation as his youngest son; Aiden is becoming an Eagle Scout. Charlie Jones thanked everyone who helped out with the Salvation Army bell ringing on December 3. Our kettle collected over $250.00. Eric Langan was the sergeant and collected $12 in fines. The red buckets were passed for a Holiday bonus for our lovely waitress Ann Hanson. President Becky announced the new members for the Board of Directors. Their term will begin on July 1, 2012, except for Jeremy Kaiser, who will be completing the term of James Patten and then serving an additional 2 years. Others joining the board will be Margo McInnis, Adam Kerns, Paul Seelau and Tom Messer as Sergeant of Arms. The presidential candidate for 2015-16 is Glen Keppy. Becky will be asking for volunteers on January 6, for Saturdays, January 7 and 14, for the Elderly Care Projects that the club will be helping Generations: Area Agency on Aging with. This is in conjunction with our District Simplified Grant for this year.
