About Music at Saint Paul s The Choirs of Saint Paul s Episcopal Church exist to provide meaningful music for the parish community in the worship of God. The Adult Choir is the backbone of the parish s strong tradition of high quality liturgical music. Saint Paul s is blessed with many committed singers, a fine Aeolian-Skinner, and a beautiful Neo-Gothic church in which to make music. Though its choirs focus on the Anglican Tradition of church music, a great variety of musical genres are heard at Saint Paul s, spanning six centuries and ranging from English Cathedral music to spirituals. Choral music is featured in worship every Sunday morning at the principal service of Holy Eucharist at 10:30 am, September May. In addition to Sunday morning worship, Saint Paul s Choirs sing Choral Evensong twice a month. The Adult Choir Saint Paul s Adult Choir is composed of approximately 50 members, both professional and volunteer, who come from a variety of musical backgrounds. Membership is open to adults and high school youth. The full Choir, or a Schola (small group) sings at the 10:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist during the program year, in addition to once or twice monthly Choral Evensong. Requirements to join are a commitment to the choir schedule, a basic knowledge of music, and a good ear. You do not have to be a member of Saint Paul s or the Episcopal Church to join. Choral Scholars The Choral Scholar program at Saint Paul s is intended to introduce talented vocalists of high school age to quality choral music in a church setting. Choral Scholars have the opportunity to work with accomplished musicians on a weekly basis, perform a large volume of quality music at a very high level and gain further proficiency in sightreading and vocal confidence. Young singers gain insight into the requirements of being a professional musician, and are paid a small stipend to recognize their commitment. Choristers The Saint Paul s Chorister program is a multi-faceted, tuition-free musical opportunity for boys and girls ages 8 and up. During rehearsals, children learn healthy vocal technique, how to read music, and how to be leaders within the community. The choristers perform both on their own, and with the accomplished Saint Paul s Adult Choir a valuable opportunity to perform with professional musicians from throughout the region.
