WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD Gathering Time Hymn 291 Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness Hymn 174 Come and Seek the Ways of Wisdom Greeting, Welcome, and Opportunities for Discipleship Welcome to our guests and visitors! As a church of hospitality we invite you, if you feel comfortable, to introduce yourself at this time. We are glad you are here. We hope you will fill out the welcome pad (in the pew holder) to help us get acquainted. We also invite you to join us in Westminster Hall for coffee hour following worship. Everyone please silence your cell phones. Prelude Prelude on Nicaea Willan Call to Worship O Holy Trinity, One God in Three Persons, we behold in the splendor of creation your majesty and our responsibility. O Holy Trinity, One God in Three Persons, we behold in the face of Jesus Christ your divinity and our humanity. O Holy Trinity, One God in Three Persons, we behold in the Spirit of truth your glory and our calling. Bound to you forever, we will ever praise your name! (Reprinted by permission of Westminster John Knox Press from Feasting on the Word Worship Companion. Copyright 2013.) Invocation *Hymn 1 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty (During the singing of the hymn, please pass prayer requests to center aisle.) *Call to Confession *Prayer of Confession Triune God, within your own life there is mutuality, equality, and unity in diversity. Though we are made in your image, we confess that we distort the triune life. Instead of seeking mutual welfare and the common good, we seek our own gain. Instead of living in equality, justice, and respect, we construct systems that are unjust. We devise ways to elevate ourselves over others, and disrespectful thoughts, words, and actions still surface in us. We allow differences to divide us and lead to brokenness. Holy God, forgive us. Restore in us, and in our life together,
the divine image you intend. Make us tender in mutuality. Make us generous in equality. Make us grateful in diversity. We pray to be one with you and one another, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Reprinted by permission of Westminster John Knox Press from Feasting on the Word Worship Companion. Halle, Halle, Halleluja! Halleluja! Halleluja! Halleluja! Hymn # 591 (Refrain) *Passing of the Peace Having received Christ s peace, let us share it by turning to our neighbors and greeting them, saying May the peace of Christ be with you! Anthem I Believe in God the Father Gambrell/Genevan Psalter Prayer for Illumination Scripture Readings Romans 5:1-5 p.155 John 16:12-15 p.110 WE HEAR THE WORD OF GOD Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
