MEMORIAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Palm Sunday Order of Worship Ten O'clock A.M. March 20, 2016 WELCOME Those who are able are invited to stand. Gathering Around the Word PRELUDE Glorify Thy Name D. Adkins Processional of the Redeemer B. Logan As the prelude begins, please take a moment of silence to prepare for worship. ANNOUNCEMENTS Worshipers are encouraged to sign the Ritual of Friendship pad and pass it along. MOMENT FOR FELLOWSHIP International Dinners Tom Boldt PASSING THE PEACE One: All: One: CALL TO WORSHIP One: All: One: All: The peace of Christ be with you all. And also with you. Share the peace of Christ with one another. 1 Tim Shoaf We come to prepare for the holiest of weeks. We will journey through praise, with joy on our lips; we will travel through betrayal and death, cradling hope deep in our hearts. Jesus leads us through this week, and we will follow, for he is the life we long for, he is the Word who sustains us. We wave palm branches in anticipation, we lay our love before him, to cushion his walk.

One: All: Setting aside all power, glory, and might, he comes: modeling humility and obedience for all of us. Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the One who brings us the Kingdom of God. HYMN #196 All Glory, Laud, and Honor Please stand and sing as the Handbell Choir processes in. CALL TO CONFESSION Pastor Mike PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of all times and places, we confess that we would rather join the crowds than stand alone. We prefer the popular point of view to a solitary witness for justice and truth. We'll sing "hosanna" when everyone else is doing so but not when the hostile "Good Friday" forces may hear us. We do not like to admit our lukewarm response to you, but neither do we want to be considered fanatics. As we confess our sins, we ask that you pour out your forgiveness in such a way that we are forever transformed. A time for silent confession ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS One: Listen, so that you may live: The steadfast love of the Lord never fails. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! All: Thanks be to God. RESPONSE #188 Jesus Loves Me! (verse 1) Proclaiming the Word PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION SCRIPTURE LESSON Mark 11:1-11 (New Testament, page 47) Mark 15:22-39 (New Testament, page 54) One: All: This is the Word of faith that we proclaim. Thanks be to God, whose Word we learn and live! 2

Learning and Living God s Word is the Vision Statement of Memorial Presbyterian Church Appleton, Wisconsin Based on the following Biblical Reflections: John 1:1-2: In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. James 1:22: But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers. Our Mission Statement We learn God s Word through engaging worship, vibrant Christian education, and intriguing conversations in small groups. We view learning as a life-long, spiritual endeavor. We are a passionate and imaginative community where learning has a purpose: to live out God s Word in our community and the world. As a fellowship, we are called together to take action in response to Christ s command to love and serve others. We welcome you to join with us in learning and living God s Word.
