Our Guest Speaker Today is Senior Staff Member with Cru at OSU, and Programming Director of the forthcoming Thompson Institute. Aaron had often attended church with his family growing up, but felt lost when he got to college. The temptations of the party scene might have had more negative longterm impact if not for students involved with Cru, who helped to show him how Jesus was relevant to college students. After spending two years serving as a missionary with Cru in Brazil upon graduation from OSU, Aaron then returned to Cru at Ohio State in full-time ministry. After more than a decade in campus ministry at OSU, hundreds of students have been impacted by the ministry, including First UMC Pastor Ty Williams. Aaron is now starting an initiative working with the most under-utilized resource of influence on college students: Christian faculty. Aaron's wife Elisabeth is also on staff with Cru, and they have two young daughters, Brooke and Molly. Nursery Care Nursery Care: Room 202 See Usher for assistance. Childcare Staff Person(s): Sandra Makemson and Patty Mathews Need We need one or two church members willing to lead the Capital Campaign Connection Committee. Confirmation Classes Begin Sept 10 This idea of confirmation class is to help the youth to understand the Christian story - creation, sin/evil, Christ's death and resurrection and the Holy Spirit today. We will also examine the United Methodist Church and explore the vows that the confirmands will have the option to take at the end of the class. This is a decision in the spiritual journey that they get to make, with the encouragement of their loved ones. Mandatory meeting for parents and youth, Aug 27 th, 9:30am in Room 100. God is always with me and I sometimes feel alone. God provides bountifully for me and I am not thankful. Have I made God's heart ache? Rachel Gabler, General Board of Global Ministries missionary, DRC-Congo Let s Go! We have standby tickets for the Mystery trip. Please call if interested. Deposits for Beef & Boards are due soon. Bob and Ann Baird 335-4338 Troy Mayors' Concert August 20, 2017 7:00 pm Prouty Plaza in downtown Troy Rain location: Hobart Arena The theme for the 2017 Troy Mayors Concert is Travel the World and it will have an international flair! This year marks the 25 th Annual concert featuring the Dayton Philharmonic Concert Band and Summer Chorus. The event is set for Sunday evening, August 20, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. on Prouty Plaza. (Rain location: Hobart Arena). As in past years, handicapped parking will be available and we will have Girl Scouts who will assist with wheelchairs. Mark your calendars and plan to attend as this promises to be a memorable evening that you will not want to miss! Troy First Opportunity At the UMW meeting on Aug 22, an opportunity is being presented to the UMW to consider how they can participate in the Miami County addiction recovery programs. Research has shown that the success of a recovery process is dependent on involvement from each segment of the community the Church, families, government, industry and schools. With this complete involvement, the results show that addicts have an increased change for long-term success. Representing our Church, the UMW members can participate and support the recovery process. Come hear how a proven solution is available to the UMW so we can begin to see long-term recovery success in our community and nation. This opportunity is open to the entire congregation not just the UMW. All are welcome to attend.
