Page 2 From the Desk of Father Raaser Last Sunday at the Naurashaun Swim Club, our parish had its third Parish Picnic. It turned out to be a beautiful day, the weather, the food, and the camaraderie of those who attended. I would like to thank all those who made the day so enjoyable. The members of the Parish Council particularly President Ken Cully, Tracey Perez, Bob Holmsen, Danny and Maureen Costello, Joe Possavino, Maria Dowling, Pat and Peggy Mulligan, Brenda Lattuca, Cheryl Pensiero, Margaret Robertson, Pat Michel, Lori Horgan, DJ Joe- Joe Russell, Dolly the Clown, Ginny the Balloon Artist. I also would like to thank the Naurashaun Swim Club in allowing us to use their beautiful grounds. We are grateful to our corporate sponsors: Pearl River Plumbing, Wyman Fisher Funeral Home, Christopher s Studios, A World of Food. It is important to get together and to enjoy each other s company. Even though the days of the parish as being the only and the center of one s social life is over, it is still important for us to come together socially. It is in the sense of unity and purpose that we identify more clearly, of who we are as pilgrims, the Holy People of God together on the same journey to God. Humanity is created in the image and likeness of God, and like God, we need to be in a community of persons. So we too are social beings and as such, our innate needs are the desire to form relationships with other human beings. Studies have shown that one s good mental and physical health is related to being social. Aristotle observed that man by his nature is social, and if one is so self-sufficient one is either a beast or a god. Many parents are too busy with work or their kids to socialize together. There has been a major shift in thinking and family life in the past 30 years where the children are the center of family life. The children s schedule dictates the family time spent together. When Mom and Pop are reduced to being chauffeurs, when family life revolves around the kid s life, we lose the idea of family: parent(s) and children, brothers and sisters, together. No wonder many kids think the world revolves around them. Everything has to be put into proper perspective and priority. We will still try to have events for adults to gather and spend fun time together. Many wonderful friendships developed and are maintained because of Parish life. Another opportunity is today at 2:00 PM in Toner Hall with a concert by Frank Sinatra sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Details are in the bulletin. The parish council is looking into another Murder Mystery Night, Spaghetti Dinner and Family Bingo. If any of you have ideas for us to get together, give me a call.

Page 4 St. Margaret of Antioch School News We are well on our way down the path of college, career and heaven. As we continue to focus on the value of Faith this month, we gathered together to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit. Here we heard Fr. Raaser refer to our minds and hearts and how they are equally important to our role as children of God and students of SMS. Fr. Clarke shared how the city of God will guide us in the city of man, and that God has given us the spirit of counsel and wisdom and we should call upon that often. We are thankful for the guidance given to us by our spiritual leaders. Good news, once again...a large majority of SMS students have mastered the NYS ELA and Math assessment: Our total % proficient (L3 or 4) in ELA is 77.20 % as opposed to the county average of 40% MATH is 63.48% as opposed to the county average of 41% Academic excellence is our goal!
