25th Sunday In Ordinary Time September 24, 2017 HUMAN S OF ST. E S "We're practicing our balancing!" Brian & Robyn Schwarm and their children Rachel, Zachary, Adam, Matthew and Ben FROM THE DESK OF FATHER FALLON Happy Stewardship Sunday everybody! We've been talking a lot about stewardship these past couple of weeks. I really hope you are as excited as I am to see what good things God has in store for us! Stewardship isn't easy thing to put in the practice. It requires something of us: a commitment to trust that God wishes to use us to build up His kingdom. That's what all the saints and generations before us have tried to live out. We can certainly see the fruits of their labor! In today's bulletin you will find a page with a bunch of opportunities to get involved in our community. Tear off one of these slips with your contact info and place it in the basket in the vestibule. I'd like to add how grateful I am to all of you for the ways you help our parish! It's truly humbling to see how people gathered together in Jesus' name! This Sunday is Donut Sunday God Bless, Fr. Fallon

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On Sunday, October 1, 2017, there will be a special collection for the formation of permanent deacons in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. This collection relieves some of their financial burden for studies to become a deacon. Since 1977, 440 men have been ordained as permanent deacons in the Archdiocese. There are 181 active deacons ordained for the Archdiocese and 83 retired deacons. There are 70 men in formation at this time. When the permanent diaconate program was initiated in the Archdiocese in January 1977, men went through a two-year formation program, with a third year of post-ordination formation. Since then, the program has gradually expanded to five years of formation, plus three more years of post-ordination formation. Deacons serve in parishes, hospitals, archdiocesan agencies, and other organizations. Half of the active deacons continue to work full-time jobs, requiring them to balance family lives and professions with their ministry as a deacon. During formation and after ordination, deacons offer their time, personal gifts and material goods to build up the Church in the Archdiocese without compensation. Their service extends into many areas of parish life, as they assist all of us in carrying out the mission of the Church. Please support the formation of permanent deacons by promoting the special collection for the Formation of Permanent Deacons on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis
