ABOUT LANGRI TANGPA CENTRE Langri Tangpa Centre is a teaching and meditation centre in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. We provide a friendly and supportive environment for learning and putting into practice the teachings of the Buddha. We are open to everyone with an interest in making their life happy and meaningful. There is no need to be a Buddhist to benefit from the courses on offer, and we encourage questioning and open dialogue. Langri Tangpa Centre is a non-profit organisation, founded in 1982, and run entirely by volunteers. We are affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), an organisation of over 140 centres throughout the world, founded by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. We seek to reflect their teachings throughout our extensive program, and to support our principal inspiration, HH the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. LTC is incorporated in Queensland under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (QLD). We operate an ATO endorsed School Building Fund with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and are sanctioned as a community purpose organisation under the Collections Act 1966 (QLD). BUDDHSM FOR BEGINNERS Buddhism in a Nutshell 27 March 24 April (6.30 pm 8 pm) Introducing key Buddhist philosophy and practice, and focusing on the Four Noble Truths - why we have problems and what we can do about them! This comprehensive beginner's course shows how Buddhist wisdom can apply in our modern everyday lives. 5-weeks with registered FPMT teacher and western nun, Ven. Lozang Lhagsam. Classes are sequential but you can join at any time. By donation (suggested $10 per class, but there is no set amount). Bound notes for the course are $15. Buddhism for Beginners 22 & 29 March (10.30 am 12 pm) What is a Buddhist? What is our potential for buddhahood? And how can we apply the Buddhist teachings to overcome problems and unhappiness? Discover how to apply the essence of the Buddha's teachings to daily life, whether you are Buddhist or not. A short 2-week introduction with registered FPMT teacher and western nun, Ven. Lozang Lhagsam. By donation (suggested $10 per class, but there is no set amount). Would you like to help (all beings!) at LTC? We need the help of our LTC Members to keep your LTC running smoothly, especially during April and May whilst Rinpoche s retreat is on in Bendigo! LEARN TO MEDITATE Cleansing Body Speech & Mind Meditations Thursday evenings 8 29 March (6.30 pm 8 pm) Guided meditations to cleanse body, speech and mind. The visualizations harmonise and purify self-image and our behaviour. The cleansing visualisation purifies our inner experience of body, speech and mind, and direct our entire day in a positive manner. 4-weeks with registered FPMT teachers Miffi Maxmillion and Ven. Lozang Lhagsam.. Recommended for beginners, and also greatly enjoyed by on-going students. By donation (suggested $10 but no set amount). No need to book, just come along. Drop-in Meditation, DVD & Chai Sunday mornings 4 25 March (10.30 am 12 pm) Spend a relaxed morning enjoying a guided mindfulness meditation followed by a visualisation of the Buddha. We also watch a documentary on a Buddhist topic, and end with a discussion, delicious chai tea and biscuits. On-going guided meditations led by the LTC nuns. No need to book, just come along. By donation (suggested $10, but there is no set amount). Vajrasattva Cleansing Practice Friday 9 March (7 pm 8 pm) Purify negative actions, speech and emotions and connect with the innate purity of your mind. Vajrasattva is the buddha of purification, and combined with the Four Opponent Powers, this meditation helps to overcome destructive habit patterns and remove the negative imprints made on our mind by past actions. On-going guided meditations led by the LTC nuns. No need to book, just come along. By donation (suggested $10, but there is no set amount). 3

BALANCING EMOTIONS Ancient Wisdom for the Modern World Tuesday evenings 13 February 20 March (6.30 pm 8.15 pm) Discover the ancient wisdom of Buddhist psychology that helps us deal with modernday problems such as peer-group pressure, social media overload, and stress and problems at work or in the family. Buddhist psychology shows techniques to cultivate happiness and mental health that are achievable for everyone. 6-weeks with registered FPMT teacher Miffi Maxmillion. Classes are sequential but you can join at any time. By donation (suggested $10 but no set amount). Notes are $15. Healing Anxiety and Depression Thursday mornings 8 February 15 March (10.30 am 12.15 pm) Using Buddhist psychology to cut through the very root of unhappiness and fear, to reveal the innate goodness and peace at the heart of our being. By developing a realistic appreciation of our innate human qualities, we will naturally be able to overcome our fears and become happier human beings. 6-weeks with registered FPMT teacher Miffi Maxmillion. Classes are sequential but you can join at any time. By donation (suggested $10 but no set amount). Notes are $15. Miffi will also be leading this course ONLINE over 6 weeks, at 12 pm Brisbane time, from 16 February 23 March. Registration is online at Gonpo Ludup Centre. You can find the links via the LTC website (This course is for a California -based centre, so registration times may show as American time!) Miffi Maxmillion is the Spiritual Program Co-ordinator and teaches the beginner s courses. She has been at LTC since 1997, when she took over from her mother Inta Mckimm, who originally founded the centre in 1982. Miffi has a background in circus costumes and couture, and says she enjoys watching far too much TV to relax. 4

COMMUNITY Starting Point Saturday 3 March (2 pm 3.30 pm) Come along to our beginner's welcome and orientation, and enjoy a guided tour, short meditation, and an information session about the program and the centre. Discover which elements of our program will suit you, and share delicious chai tea afterwards. First Saturday of the month! Everyone is welcome! This event is freely offered. No need to book, just come along. Participants receive a welcome pack and free book to take home. Buddhist Mother s Group Thursday fortnights 8 & 22 March (10 am 11.30 am) Are you a mum with a new baby or a toddler? Are you busting for a Dharma class you can attend and bring baby too? Well, hope is around the corner! Share how the 16 Guidelines relate to raising a child and positive parenting, and discuss Buddhist teachings in a relaxed atmosphere. For mums and babies 0-2 years. Ongoing fortnightly get-together led by LTC mothers. By donation (suggested $10 per family). Come down the drive and meet in the downstairs smaller gompa. Tsa-tsa Painting Workshop Sunday 18 March (2 pm 4.30 pm) A relaxing afternoon spent painting the small flat-backed statues of the buddhas (tsatsas). This activity helps us to connect with and draw forth the enlightened qualities of the buddhas in our own mind. It also helps to calm the mind and develop concentration. You don t need any artistic skill to enjoy this contemplative activity! By donation (suggested $10, but no set amount). All materials supplied. Bookings appreciated. 5

COMMUNITY Mindful Families Saturday 17 March (2 pm 4 pm) Children are strongly influenced by Superheroes & Heroines, so we want to use this opportunity to really dig into what exactly 'Supers' are all about and what values they represent. In this family mindfulness session, we will brainstorm our own superpowers such as patience, courage and focus. We will also be designing our own super costume to represent the family values we hold dear and use everyday. Join the family fun with these special activities for children 4-8 years and their parents. Mindful Families meets four times a year. No need to book just come along! By donation (suggested $10 per family). BYO water bottle. Because the classes are a family event, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. IN-DEPTH BUDDHISM Rinpoche s Retreat Preparation Wednesday 21 March (7 pm 8.30 pm) An information evening for everyone who plans to attend Lama Zopa Rinpoche's teachings in 2018 - either in Bendigo or at Chenrezig Institute. Rinpoche's Australian visit is a rare and precious event, so to ensure that we attend with a pure motivation, a clear focus, and a relaxed attitude - we need to prepare ourselves well! This is a one-off class for anyone thinking of attending Rinpoche s teachings in either Bendigo or at Chenrezig Institute in 2018. With Eddie Peet and Miffi Maxmillion, who both attended Rinpoche s retreat last time in Bendigo 2014, with very different experiences! By donation (suggested $10 but no set amount). 6

IN-DEPTH BUDDHISM Discovering Buddhism UNIT 5: Death & Rebirth Tuesday mornings 13 February 17 April (10.30 am 12 pm) What happens at death-time? How can we best prepare ourselves? And how does rebirth work? It is only by reflecting on change and impermanence that we can use our present life to its fullest potential. 10-weeks with registered FPMT teacher Eddie Peet. By donation (suggested $10 but no set amount). Bound notes are $30. Come along, even if you have not joined the course. Discovering Buddhism UNIT 3: Presenting the Path Wednesday evenings 7 February 18 April (7 pm 8.30 pm) Get an overview of the entire Buddhist path to awakening. Hear about the life story of the Buddha and study the core Buddhist teachings. Discover the unique system for putting philosophy into practice in the Lam Rim, or "graduated path to enlightenment" 10-weeks with registered FPMT teacher Eddie Peet. Join at the beginning of any unit. By donation (suggested $10 but no set amount). Bound notes are $30. If you are unsure if this course will suit you, please feel welcome to sit in on a class. Lamrim Chenmo Study Group Sunday mornings 11 & 25 March (9 am 12 pm) In-depth study group exploring Lama Tsong Khapa's Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. We listen to the commentary during class, discuss the homework, and discover how to integrate the lam-rim wisdom into daily life. Held twice a month, led by registered FPMT teacher, Eddie Peet. Suitable for established students or the committed beginner. (Suggested donation $10) Notes printed or on CD. 7

YOGA Morning Yoga Classes Mondays with Jill Shaw-Feather Wednesdays with Cindy Hartigan Fridays with Jill Shaw-Feather (9.30 am 11 am) Yoga for all levels and age groups, including seniors and beginners. Relaxation, personal instruction and mindful movement helps you unwind from workday stress, let go of tension and feel revitalised. Develop strength and flexibility by working to your own capacity, and as deeply as you feel comfortable. Linked by the breath, this flowing blend of asana (postures) pranayama (breath work) relaxation and meditation helps you to become centred, relaxed and revitalized. Evening Yoga Classes Mondays with Amanda Lynn Wednesdays with Cindy Hartigan (6.30 pm 8 pm) Vinyasa flow, Sun Salutations, stretching and strengthening for a deeply nourishing practice. Yoga helps calm the mind and leave you feeling both relaxed and invigorated. Suitable for all levels of experience, with variations to suit the individual. There is also the opportunity to explore more challenging poses in a safe and nurturing environment. About the yoga classes... There is no need to book, just come along! Beginners are welcome, as the classes are a mixed group. The room is climate controlled, and yoga mats, blankets and equipment are supplied. BYO water bottle, wear loose and comfortable clothes, and arrive at least 15 minutes early if this is your first class. Costs is $15 per class (cash only please). Enter through the doors at the street end, as reception may not be open. There are toilets and change-rooms for your convenience. Eddie Peet is a registered teacher within the FPMT and has been leading the intermediate classes at LTC since 1997. His gentle manner and in-depth knowledge of the Buddhist path make him an invaluable resource. He is widely read, and is known for his non-judgmental compassion for anyone wishing to apply the teachings into their life. 8

PUJAS & CEREMONIES Day of Miracles Medicine Buddha Puja Thursday 1 March (6.30 pm 8.30 pm) Join us on one of the most auspicious days of the year, with a special Medicine Buddha Puja, mountains of offerings, and community dedications. The Day of Miracles comes at the culmination of two weeks of Auspicious Buddha Days, from Losar onward (Tibetan New Near). The results of actions done on these days are greatly multiplied, so it s a very powerful time of year for practice, goal-setting, making donations, and aspiriational prayers for oneself and prayers for world peace and enlightenment for others. This popular puja is sung entirely in English, and enjoyed Buddhists and non-buddhists alike. Bring your medicines and put them on the altar to be blessed, and then take them home again. All welcome especially beginners! No need to book, just come along. Tonight s Puja is also a special fundraiser to help our LTC Sangha attend Rinpoche s teachings in April May this year! All donations from the puja will go towards the nuns. You can also make donations for the nuns directly via PayPal on our Projects & Causes page Annual special event, where the merit created is multiplied and becomes very powerful. By donation (suggested $10, or bring an offering of flowers or food) Guru Puja Sunday 11 & Monday 26 March (6.30 pm 8 pm) We offer the puja in English, so we can follow the meaning. We also include chai tea and make individual dedications. Tsog is a special offering to the guru field. It is crucial for creating the merit we need to sustain a fruitful Dharma practice. Ritual offering, especially relevant to those with an HYT practice commitment. Held in the downstairs gompa. By donation (suggested $10, or bring an offering of flowers or food). 9

PUJAS & CEREMONIES Protector Prayers Friday 16 March (7 pm 8 pm) Chants and praises to protect our practice and dispel obstacles, including prayers to Mahakala, Palden Lhamo, and the Ktsitigharba practice. Chanted in both English and Tibetan, using the traditional tunes and instruments. Led by senior students. Most suited for those with a background in tantric practice, but everyone is welcome By donation (suggested $10) Tara Puja Sunday 25 March (6.30 pm 8.30 pm) Arya Tara is a manifestation of the fearless compassionate action of the buddha. She is known as the mother of all the buddhas, as she represents perfect, ultimate wisdom. This ceremony is particularly helpful in removing obstacles, for help in emergencies, resolving conflicts and energising stagnation. Monthly offering ceremony, led by senior students.
