Connecting with Bible Content in 30-50 minutes As children play in Bible-learning activities, tell the Bible story for them to hear. Lead boys and girls to know God planned for Jesus birth and people told about God s plan. Build a House Center: Blocks Isaiah wrote about God s plan to send Jesus. Materials: Bible, Kindergarten Connection weekly pages, Blueprint (pack item 17), crayons, wooden blocks > > Show children the blueprint. Explain: Blueprints are a special type of plan that builders use to make a house. As the children build a house, talk with them about God s plan for Jesus birth. > > Say: God told Isaiah about His plan for Jesus birth. Isaiah wrote down God s plan. Review the Bible story. > > Guide children to follow the number key to complete the stained glass window on the Kindergarten Connection weekly page. Help each child identify the letters in the window. Point to the word again and have them read it. Remark: You just read the word Jesus. >> KID Connection Read the Bible verse. Say: Isaiah told about God s plan to send someone. Who would God send? (Jesus) Make a Scroll Center: Creative Art Isaiah wrote on a scroll about God s plan for Jesus birth. Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture (pack item 1), Bible Markers (pack item 15a), crayons, markers, stickers, half sheets of white paper, craft sticks, glue > > As children arrive, show them how to glue a craft stick along each short end of a half sheet of paper. Refer to the teaching picture and tell the Bible story as children work. > > Provide time for children to decorate their scrolls. Offer to print the Bible verse on each child s scroll. Some children may want to look at the Bible marker and print the verse themselves. >> Kid Connection Say the Bible verse, God will send a child to be born. Isaiah 7:14. Ask: Who wrote these words? (Isaiah) Who were they about? (Jesus) Create a Hand Pointer Center: Creative Art, Dramatic Play Isaiah said, Send me, God. I will go. Materials: Bible, Bible Word Card: message (pack item 14a-d), paint sticks, pencils, markers, heavyweight paper, scissors, glue, tape, stickers > > When children arrive, show them the Bible word card message and explain the meaning. Tell them Isaiah heard God say, Who will I send to tell people My message? Isaiah said, Send me, God. I will go. > > Guide children to trace their hands on a sheet of heavyweight paper. Ask them to print I Will Go on their paper hands. Each child will decorate his paper hand using crayons, markers, stickers or other art supplies. Guide each child as he cuts out the traced hand, then tapes or glues it to one end of a paint stick. He may decorate the stick. > > As children work, tell the Bible story. As children finish, show them how they can take turns role-playing part of the story. One child asks Who can I send? The other children raise their pointers and say, I will go. >> KID Connection Say: Isaiah said, I will go. He told about God s plan for Jesus to be born. W e e k o f D e c e m b e r 5 11

Suggest children use the markers, crayons, and stickers to decorate the strips of paper before making a chain. Note: Some children will want to make a short chain; others, a long one. Do not require kindergartners to make the same pattern you demonstrated. > > As children work, tell the Bible story. >> KID Connection Talk about the meaning of the word plan. Connecting with Bible Truths in 15-20 minutes Isaiah Told About Jesus Isaiah 1:1; 6:1,8; 7:14; 9:6-7; 11:1-5 Engage children in Group Time. Materials: Bible; Teaching Picture (pack item 1); Bible Word Cards: plan, message (pack item 14a-d); Bible Marker (pack item 15a); Music and More CD; CD player, paper towel roll or megaphone Prepare. Gather and prepare materials for group time. Sing together. Play Smile (track 13). Lead children in the motions of the song. Hear Bible truths. When children are seated, show them the word cards plan and message and review the meanings. Ask the girls to raise their hands each time they hear plan in the story and the boys when they hear message. Open your Bible to Isaiah and tell the Bible story in your own words. Bible Story Isaiah lived near Jerusalem in the country of Judah. Isaiah heard God ask, Who will I send to tell people My message? Isaiah said, Send me, God. I will go. Isaiah became a prophet. A prophet tells people what God wants them to know. God had a plan. God chose Isaiah to tell the people some wonderful news. Isaiah wrote down what God told him. Isaiah wrote that a young woman would have a special baby boy. The special baby would be God s Son. The baby would be Jesus. God s message to Isaiah helped the people know that Jesus would love all people. Jesus would help people understand more about God. He would grow into a man. He would be wise. He would help people know and love God. He would always do what is right and would help people. Isaiah wrote the words in a Bible scroll. People who heard or read the words on the Bible scroll knew that God was planning to send His Son, Jesus. Know Bible truths. Show the children the teaching picture. Ask for a volunteer to recall one fact she remembers from the story. Allow her to tell the fact, using the megaphone or paper towel roll. Continue with other children. When the story has been reviewed, ask: What was God s message to Isaiah? Show the Bible marker and say the Bible verse together several times. Do Bible truths. Children will do (live) the Bible truth as they remember God planned for Jesus birth and Isaiah told people about God s plan. Say: Let s try a chant that will help us remember this Bible truth. Guide half of the children to stand and recite: God planned for Jesus birth. Guide the other half of the children to stand and announce: And Isaiah told people about God s plan. Repeat several times. Play a musical game. Play the song Isaiah Told About Jesus (track 1). Stop the music and invite a child to help you find the Book of Isaiah in the Old Testament. Point to the word Isaiah. Invite her to read the word. Continue the song and repeat this with several other volunteers. >> Family Connection Send home the Parent E-mail for December and the Kindergarten Connection weekly pages. Send a Winter Postcard (pack item 28a-d) to children who have been absent. If you have limited time or teaching staff and need a Quick Plan, include these activities to achieve today s Bible teaching and life application at group time. W e e k o f D e c e m b e r 5 13
