Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what. Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Welcome kids and spend time engaging in conversation and catching up. Get ready to experience today s Bible Truth. Before kids arrive, pray for each regular attendee by name. Pray for those who might visit your group for the first time. Pray for those kids who might feel like they re not important or who don t have anyone at home regularly telling them they re important. Ask God to communicate to them that they were made by Him ON purpose. Foiled By Name What You Need: Large box of foil for each group, scissors What You Do: Tear big sections of foil. Start by making them about the size of a laptop or cookie sheet. You will need one piece of foil for each person in your group, plus extra if students ask for it. Pass each person a piece of foil as they arrive. Challenge them to make their name somehow using the foil. (Note: There are lots of ways to accomplish this. There s no one right way. Let them explore and have fun with it. They can have more foil if they need it. Encourage their creativity, since that s what we re focused on this month!) After most people have arrived and made their name in foil, let them take turns sharing their creations with each other. Talk about the different problems students ran into during the activity and what solutions or strategies they used. What You Say: There was no one right way to create your name out of foil. (Repeat back some of the things people did: rolling, folding, tearing, cutting, twisting, balling it up, etc.) When I look around at all of our names, I see a lot of creativity. We re talking about that this month. And any creativity we have inside of us is because we re made in the image of God, the first and ultimate Creator. I m so glad [Bottom Line] God made you. [Transition] Let s head to Large Group and listen for HOW God made the first humans. I wonder if even His methods were creative too. Lead your group to the Large Group area. 2

Bible: Communicating God s Truth in Engaging Ways (Large Group, 35 minutes) Engage kids hearts through a dynamic and interactive Bible Truth, worship, and prayer experience in a Large Group setting. CG: Welcome Slide SFX: Play high-energy music as kids enter. CG: Gadgets and Gizmos Theme Slide Host enters with a slightly disheveled and crazed look. Opener HOST: Ha! I ve done it! I got here early to head to the tinker lab and do some tinkering, and the end result is something for the ages! I ve created a game changer. NAY, my work is THE GAME CHANGER the world has been waiting on. (Look up.) YOU RE WELCOME, WORLD! AND THANKS FOR BEING PATIENT! This place (look around and act emotional) will no longer be the same because of my invention! I m getting ahead of myself. My sincerest apologies! I m just really, REALLY excited. I say we start this morning off with some praise and worship. Help me get the Power Praise team in here. Host joins the audience as the Power Praise team enters. POWER PRAISE: Let s take a few minutes to show our God praise. Everybody stand to your feet. We shared this song with you last week. Let s jam out and sing. C mon! SFX: Alive That was so great! This next song is about following Jesus so closely that every move we make brings us closer to Him and also shows other people which way to go. Just by learning to follow Jesus, others learn to follow Him too. Sing with us. SFX: Every Move I Make We were made by God and for God. Second Corinthians 6:18 says: I will be your Father. You will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord who rules over all (NIrV). Let s sing this song called Sons and Daughters, which is about how each one of us is a child of God. 4

SFX: Sons and Daughters / track 8 from Alive There is something special that happens in our hearts when we lift our praises to God together. Thank you for sharing this time with us each week. Host retakes the stage as Power Praise exits. I was so excited about my new tinkering production earlier that I forgot to introduce myself! The name is [Host s name], and I have a deep affection for all gadgets, gizmos, doohickeys, and even thingamajigs! Welcome to the Base tinker lab, where I will work to devise, imagine, improvise, and CREATE the next big thing. (Beat.) Wait. Scratch that last line. This room has been my tinker lab where I have ALREADY dreamed up the next big thing and used my creativity to fabricate it. Coincidentally, that is exactly what we are talking about all month long. CG: Creativity Slide Creativity is imagining what you could do because you re made in God s image. Let s have everyone whose gears are racing in anticipation of my new contraption say the definition with me! HOST and KIDS: Creativity is imagining what you could do because you re made in God s image. HOST: Most excellent! Now, back to my brainchild! I don t want to oversell this thing, but the invention of the pizza cutter OR selfie stick has got NOTHING on what I ve dreamed up. Do you want to see it? (Pause for response.) Clearly you do NOT want to see it based on that response. I will repeat: DO YOU WANT TO SEE IT? (Pause for response.) Of course you want to see it, because it s AMAZING! SFX: Gonna Fly Now (Singing) I PRESENT TO YOU THE COUCH MARKER 3000. Host rushes backstage and grabs the Couch Marker 3000s. Host steps back onto the stage holding the gadgets in the air, sort of like Arthur in The Sword in the Stone. Host continues to bask for a couple of moments. (Music stops.) I have not gotten this excited about a new contraption since they came out with a Darth Vader waffle maker! How many times have you been sitting on the COUCH thinking to yourself, Man, I need to add my very important school project due date to my mom s wall calendar, but I don t want to get off the couch? How many times have you thought, Aw, nuts and bolts! I need to add Doritos Sweet Spicy Chili Corn Chips to the grocery list, but this couch is way too comfortable to move? Probably too many times to count! Now with my Couch Marker 3000 prototype, homework on the kitchen table can be done from the comfort of the love seat! Be honest: Who else is excited about this? (Pause for response.) Anybody want to try it out? I need two pioneers willing to give this a trial run! 5

Select one boy and one girl volunteer. Give each of them a Couch Marker 3000. You two will be the first civilians to pilot the Couch Marker 3000. This is what I need you to do. Both of you will be given a hand mirror, a Couch Marker 3000, and a chair. Using your tools, you will need to draw a life-sized self-portrait from the waist up on the large pieces of paper hanging on the wall while lounging in your chair. The more details you can add, the better, which is why we gave you hand mirrors. There will be no excuses for not having created amazing self-portraits using the Couch Marker 3000. OH! One more thing: You have 60 seconds to complete your masterpieces. Any questions? Good! Ready, set, go! SFX: Upbeat game music As the game nears the end, Host counts down from 10 with the help of the audience. AND STOP! Wow! Oh, wow! (Emotionally over the top) When I first started dreaming up this invention, I never thought it could be used to create such outstanding artistry! Give it up for our two volunteers and, of course, for the Couch Marker 3000. (Still emotional) I think I m having a moment. Yep. I m for sure having a moment. I ll take my markers backstage and spare you all the tears. Host sends the volunteers back to their seats and exits with the Couch Marker 3000s as Historyteller enters with his prepared notes or pages and painter s tape loops. SETTING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: What s up, everybody? I am pumped to have all of you here this morning! And I don t know about you, but I love creative people! Every Sunday, we have lots of examples of this from the Power Praise team using their cool dance moves, to the Host showing us his gadgets, to the Prayer Group Leaders engaging each of you in conversations and activities. All of us are uniquely wired and wonderfully made by the ultimate Creator, God. In fact, that is where our creativity comes from God. Before we travel too far down this road, I want us to do a quick recap of what we talked about last week. Last Sunday, we talked about the beginning like the very beginning before anything existed except God. Using just His voice, God began to create everything. Light and dark kicked off this creation party. Place LIGHT and DARK notes on the large self-portrait paper in the space around the images. The earth was filled with water, but then God called dry land up from the depths. God covered the dry land with plants and trees alike with His voice. Place WATER and LAND notes on the paper. Place PLANTS and TREES notes on the paper. Then God s voice spoke beyond the earth to place the sun and moon and stars in the universe. 6

Place SUN, MOON, and STARS notes on the papers. God filled the waters and skies and land to overflowing with critters and beasts alike. Place ANIMALS, BIRDS, and FISH notes on the papers. As God finished creating each of these, the Bible tells us He saw that what He had made was good. He was pleased with everything, but He wasn t finished. There was still work to be done. IN GOD S IMAGE HISTORYTELLER: God wanted someone to care for the fish swimming in the waters and someone to look after the animals roaming the land. There was no one to work the land or oversee the birds flying high overhead. So God devised a plan. In Genesis, we read what God said (open Bible and read Genesis 1:26): Let us make human beings so that they are like us. Let them rule over the fish in the seas and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the livestock and all the wild animals. And let them rule over all the creatures that move along the ground (NIrV). God wanted to create people in His image. Obviously, this does not mean we look like God in our appearance. So just because you have brown hair, that doesn t mean God has brown hair. It doesn t work like that, but God made each of us to look like Him in His character. Let s think about this for a moment. Through our actions towards others, we are able to show God s love, forgiveness, patience, kindness, grace, faithfulness, and kindness. Write each of those characteristics on notes and stick them on the paper. Add to this list as time permits. Even the creativity we all possess is a reflection of God, the ultimate Creator. THE VERY FIRST MAN HISTORYTELLER: With His plan in mind, God used some of the resources He d already created. Taking the dirt, He shaped and formed it until He molded a human being. God breathed life into this person a man who was later named Adam. Reference the self-portrait of the boy hanging on the wall. Now, God had planted a beautiful garden called the Garden of Eden. In this garden were huge trees offering a shady canopy. Juicy, ripe fruit richly adorned the vines. A river flowing through Eden watered the plants. God placed Adam in this picturesque garden to farm the land and care for the livestock. But there was something missing. Adam knew it, and God did too. THE VERY FIRST WOMAN HISTORYTELLER: Maybe Adam could have used help harvesting the fruit. Maybe Adam could have used some good conversation while he was planting his potatoes. Maybe he just needed a friend. But God knew that His character wasn t completely reflected in just Adam alone. So God put Adam into a deep sleep, removed one of Adam s ribs, and closed up the opening. Using the rib, God began to form 7

and mold a woman named Eve. Reference the self-portrait of the girl hanging on the wall. God had created a perfect friend for Adam. Together they served as the first dynamic duo this world had ever seen. WRAPPING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: As God s sixth day of work came to a close, God looked over everything He had made, from the mice in the field to the leaves on the trees to the clouds in the sky to Adam and Eve in the garden. He saw that it was all VERY good. On the seventh day, God rested from all His work. From nothing, God constructed everything including Adam and Eve. However, not only did God make Adam and Eve, but He also made you and me. The God of the universe created us! We are one of the masterpieces the ultimate Creator created. Think about that for a minute. The same God who created parrots and squirrels and acorns and rocks took the time to make us and set aside a place on this earth for each one of us. Our Bottom Line for today is simple, but it means so much. CG: Bottom Line Slide [Bottom Line] God made you. And He didn t make you like everything or everyone else. You are uniquely wired and wonderfully made. There is no one else on earth just like you! You are special. And in our uniqueness, God made us all to reflect His character. We are able to help other people see God by the way we live our lives. Others can see God by the words we choose to speak, kindness we extend to others, or patience we demonstrate. This is huge. It means all of us have a job. There is no other person like you. Using your unique personality and interests and skills, you have the task of making your life point others to God, the Ultimate Creator who made YOU! What will you do today, this week, this summer to reflect the amazing God who created you? We will be discussing the significance of this Bible Truth more in our small groups. Let s pray. Pray HISTORYTELLER: Dear God, thank You for today s Bible Truth to remind us of Your power and creativity. Thanks for making each one of us special and unique. When we re feeling down or need a pick-me-up, please remind us of this truth. And please give us opportunities to reflect Your character to others around us. We love You and we ask all these things in Jesus name, amen. If you have an offering or a tithe with you today, come on up and put it in the offering bucket. Historyteller exits as Host enters dragging a Couch Marker 3000. Closer HOST: Man. All week long I ve been thinking this was IT (reference Couch Marker 3000). Although it looks primitive with just a marker, wooden pole, and duct tape, I thought this invention would make everyone s life easier from their La-Z-Boy. But this thing pales in comparison to what God was able to create. Looking around, God created alligators, coyotes, the Hill Country, rabbits, pine trees, cedar 8

tress and so much more! But more than that, He made you and me. That s what we want everyone to remember this morning. CG: Bottom Line Slide [Bottom Line] God made you. Although it is easy enough to remember that, it can only have an impact on your life once you really understand what it means. Since we are made in the image of God and made to reflect His character to the world, this could drastically change the words you say and the actions you take on a daily basis. Stick the preprinted sheets on the paper as you read. Add to this list as time permits. For example, maybe your arms (referencing self-portraits) can reflect God s love by preparing meals for someone in need of food. Your mouth can reflect God s patience next time your little brother is pushing your buttons. Maybe your ears can show God s kindness next time a friend needs someone to simply listen to them. Take a minute to think of the ways you could change the world by simply allowing others to see God in you. Because you are special and unique, nobody can reflect God the same way. God made you special. It reminds me of our memory verse. CG: Memory Verse Slide It says: I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made: your works are wonderful, I know this full well, (Psalm 139:14, NIV). Praise God this week for making you unique, and let others see God through your uniqueness. That s all I ve got for you this week. Have fun in Small Group, and we will see you again next time! Have an incredibly creative week! CG: Prayer Group Slide Dismiss children to their Prayer Groups. 9

Pray and Dismiss (10 minutes) What You Need: No supplies needed What You Do: Ask kids to stand in a wide circle. Have them repeat today s Bottom Line together by looking at the person across the circle and saying, [Bottom Line] God made you. Explain that you re going to pray and ask God to show them how to use their creativity and imagination to serve Him this week. To indicate that they re praying along with you, invite the kids to take a step forward into the circle each time you use a form of the word creative. Pray the following prayer, but personalize it in whatever way the Lord leads you. What You Say Dear God, thank You for the incredible gift of creativity! Everywhere we look, we can see Your creative workmanship and handiwork. Thank You for creating us. Thank You for making us unique and gifted. Help us use our imaginations and creativeness in ways that bring glory to You. Help us think of creative ways to do good things this week that will point others to You. In Jesus name, amen. Pass out Parent CUE cards as adults arrive for pick-up. 10
