20 HINCHMAN AVENUE, WAYNE, NJ 07470 (973) 628-1877 Vivekananda Vidyapith is dedicated to the development of the life and character of youngsters through an all-round educative process based on ancient spiritual wisdom and modern scientific teaching methods. Believing that each individual is potentially divine, the Vidyapith provides a conducive environment for everyone to unfold their energy and talents, and to channelize these towards the noble path of character building. The Vidyapith shares the conviction of the great teachers of humanity, in that a growing sapling should be continuously nurtured by positive and uplifting thoughts and ideas in a systematic and appealing way. Such positive ideas strengthen character, which becomes the guiding force in the critical times of one s life and determines the destiny of the individual. Such an individual becomes a beneficial asset to society. The Vidyapith emphasizes simple and practical ideals such as respecting one s elders, achieving academic proficiency, developing good health through exercise and proper eating habits, occupying the mind with constructive ideas and projects, and cultivating a truthful, service-oriented life. The teachings of Vivekananda Vidyapith are based on the Vedanta philosophy, which assimilates the basic principles of all religions. The Vidyapith welcomes all who aspire toward character building. Saturday and Sunday Classes for Youngsters Every Saturday and Sunday, classes are held for youngsters based on age groups. Inspiring thoughts, biographies of great personalities, stories from epics such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Upanishads, and the Bhagavad Gita are taught in an interesting way that appeals to young minds. Music, arts and crafts, and languages are also integrated into the curriculum. Sapling Sapling is a quarterly magazine published by the Vidyapith. Students write the articles for the magazine as well as form its editorial committee. The magazine reflects the curriculum of the Vidyapith. Summer Camps Every year, the Vidyapith holds for its students summer day camps on its premises. Students follow a comprehensive program that includes studies, service, and recreational activities. These camps stimulate the enthusiasm and interest of the students. THE VIDYAPITH CONDUCTS THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES: Their talents find expression through music, dance, plays, recitations, and various other forms of art. Study Classes for Adults Twice a week scriptural study classes are held for adults. The classes include the study of the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and Vedanta as expounded by Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda. Practicing the ideals of the scriptures is emphasized in these classes. Special Celebrations The Vidyapith celebrates religious festivals such as Ramanavami, Shivaratri, Janmashtami, Christmas, Buddha Jayanti and the birthdays of great saints and teachers. Swami Vivekananda s birthday is celebrated as YOUTH DAY during the month of January with a program of speech competitions, essay writing, and symposiums. An outdoor get-together and picnic is organized once a year for the Vidyapith students and their families. Annual Function The students of the Vidyapith hold a special celebration every year to share their learning with families and friends. Guest Speakers The Vidyapith organizes special lectures of distinguished speakers to inspire and encourage students and parents.
