From your President: Greetings, United Methodist Women, 2015 is going fast. Mission u was a great success. We have around 15 youth participating and their enthusiasm carried us all home on a spiritual high. Thanks to Lana Solomon and the committee for great work. The Nominations Committee has been working hard to put together a great Mission Team for 2016. Please make sure you look over the report in this addition of the Clarion. We will be voting on this slate officers at our Annual Day in September. And speaking of Annual Day, Donna Moore and the Program Committee has a great day lined up for us. Dr. Cynthia Hopson will be our speaker. She will be bringing some of her books, so you might want to pick one up if you haven t had a chance to read them. We will also have other shopping available as well as a photo op booth. Check out the information in this addition. Online registration is available. Come and enjoy All Things Jackson. I hope you have heard about some new ways to live into the 150 year legacy of United Methodist Women. I know many units have begun looking at ways to participate in this celebration. We are entering the 146 th year since those strong women met in Boston. Many changes have taken place since then and many more are on the way. As we prepare for the changes ahead, we want to strengthen our connection with each other. An organization is only as strong as its weakest link. Let s make sure we have no weak links. We share a 146 year legacy of strong women, women who were not afraid to dream big dreams. Can you dream big? How big? It is time to be turning in your mission giving for the 3 rd quarter. We have had good response to date but we are a long way from our pledge. Keep giving! Change is definitely in the air. Please support your district mission teams as we celebrate our current seven districts and work toward becoming four districts. The District Presidents and District Mission Teams have worked hard to put together great Mission Teams for the four districts in 2016. I want to thank all of them for the work they have done. 2016 promises to be an awesome year! Make sure you have the MOR event on your calendar. That committee is putting together a great program and some great mission opportunities. November 7-8 at Lakeshore. Don t let it pass you by! Our Southeastern Jurisdictional Meeting is fast approaching. It is June 3-5, 2016 in Charleston, South Carolina. We will have some bus information for you at Annual Day. Save the date! Until we meet again, go share Faith, Hope and Love in Action. Delores 3

Well, it s one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now, go cat go, but don t you step on my blue suede shoes... Memphis Conference United Methodist Women are you ready for All Things Jackson? Well, it is right around the corner on Saturday, September 26, at Jackson First United Methodist Church. Now some of you may not be as familiar with Jackson as others, but they have been known as the Hub City for many, many years because of their proximity to Memphis, Nashville, and lots of other places. Thus, we will be having lunch diner-style in the Hub City Café! Since the early 1940 s, dozens of outstanding young women travel to Jackson to participate in the Miss Tennessee pageant. And if you ve ever been involved, you know that it is about so much more than just beauty. These women are go-getters and have a wonderful heart for service. So... be sure and bring a few dollars for Mission Giving to get your photo taken in the Miss UMW Photo Booth with an amazing crown and scepter! Have you ever heard of the Cannonball Express? Well, that was the train run by the famous railroader named Casey Jones. He became a hero for his heroic efforts to save lives during a train wreck one dark rainy night. To honor him, you will have the opportunity to shop the Old Depot Boutique this year. (Remember units, we need lots of goodies canned goods, craft items, etc. to sell.) All proceeds will go to Mission Giving so bring your pocketbook! Now, I know it will be almost impossible for you to keep your feet still when you hear the rockabilly tunes cranked out by Mr. Bill Kelley. He is the musician at the Ripley FUMC, has played Carnegie Hall and numerous event all over the place. Mr. Bill will be playing all during our event. Last, but certainly not least, our speaker for the day will be Dr. Cynthia Bond Hopson, Ph.D. Dr. Hopson is a well known educator, mentor, best-selling author and champion of United Methodist Women. We look forward to the insights that she will bring. Please register early it makes it a little bit trying to prepare the meal when we don t know how many are coming until late. Thanks! Look inside this issue of the Clarion for the Registration form and flyer for the event. See you there!!! Donna E. Moore, Memphis Conference 4

Slip on a crown and become Miss Tennessee UMW at our QUEEN S PHOTO BOOTH, enjoy Rockabilly Tunes by BILL KELLY, dine in the HUB CITY CAFE, shop in the OLD DEPOT BOUTIQUE!
