TARES FROM THE ENEMY 24 He set before them another parable. The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sows good seed (in his field). 25 It came to pass when the men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares overthe wheat, that is beriyagah( " גה,(ברייא and he went away. (Hebrew Matthew 13:24-25) 24 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 "But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares amongthe wheat, and went away. (Matt. 13:24-25 NAU)
DISCOVERY OF THE TARES 26 It came to pass when the herb grew up to make fruit, he saw the tares. 27 The servants of the master of the field drew near to him and said to him: Master, did you not sow good seed? Then whence came the tares? (Hebrew Matthew 13:26-27) 26 "But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also. 27 "The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Howthen does it have tares?' (Matt. 13:26-27 NAU)
UPROOT THE TARES? 28 He said to them: My enemy (did) this. This servant said to him: We will uproot the tares. 29 He said to them: No, lest you uproot the wheat. (Hebrew Matthew 13:28-29) 28 "And he said to them, 'An enemy has done this!' The slaves said to him, 'Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?' 29 "But he said, 'No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them.(matt. 13:28-29 NAU)
JOB FOR THE REAPERS 30 But let them remain together and grow up until the harvest, and in time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather the tares first and bind them into individual bundlesfor burning and the wheat put into the granary. (Hebrew Matthew 13:28-29) 30 'Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather up the tares and bind them in bundlesto burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn."'" (Matt. 13:30 NAU)
FULFILLING PROPHECY 34 All of these parables Jesus spoke to the crowds and without a parable he did not speak to them, 35 to fulfill what was said according to the prophet: I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter riddlesfrom ancient times.(ps 78:2; by Asaph) (Heb Matt 13:34-35) 34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable. 35 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: "I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDENSINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD."(Ps 78:2; by Asaph) (Matt. 13:34-35 NAU)
THE REFERENTS 36 Then Jesus was parted from the crowds and went into the house. His disciples came to him and asked him to explain for them the parable of the tares. 37 He answered them and said to them: The one who sows good seed is,האדם) man ha-a dam), (Hebrew Matthew 13:36-37) 36 Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field." 37 And He said, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man(ὁυἱὸςτοῦἀνθρώπου, ho huios tou anthropou = בּ ן ה א ד ם, ben ha-a dam), (Matt. 13:36-37 NAU)
THE REFERENTS 38 the field is the world, the good fruit is the righteous, and the tares are evil. 39 the enemy who sowed it is Satan, the standing grain at the end is the world to come, and the reapers are the angels. (Hebrew Matthew 13:38-39) 38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. (Matt. 13:38-39 NAU)
THE GATHERING 40 Asthe reapers gather the tares to burn, so will it be at the end of the days. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels to uproot from his kingdom all eviland all who do iniquity. (Hebrew Matthew 13:40-41) 40 "So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. 41 "The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, (Matt. 13:40-41 NAU)
THE ENDING RESULT 42 They will (cast) them in the pyre of fire; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun (Dan 12:3) in the kingdom of their father. Whoever has ears to hear let him hear. (Hebrew Matthew 13:42-43) 42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 "Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN (Dan 12:3)in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. (Matt. 13:42-43 NAU)
CORRESPONDENCE TO THE PATRISTIC CHURCH Dr. Dwight Pentecost Suggested in His Book Things to Come(p.153) that the 7 Kingdom Parables in Matthew 13 Correspond to the 7 Letters to 7 Churches in Revelation2-3, and also to 7 Stages in Church History. The 1st Kingdom Parable (the Parable of the Sower) Corresponds to the Apostolic Age (33-100). A.D.33: Pentecost; A.D.100: NT Published, Death of John. The 2nd Kingdom Parable (the Parable of the Tares) Corresponds to the Patristic Age (100-312). A.D.312: Conversion of Constantine. A.D. 325: Council of Nicaea, Trinitarianism.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION REMOVED One Potential Objection for the 1st Correspondence Was the Lack of Association to Jesus Christ, Who Sowed the Seed of the Gospel, which the Apostles Continued to Defend and Spread after Christ s Ascension. But the Hebrew Matthew Did Made the Association: 19 The Sower is the Son of Man, and this seed which fell on the road is every one who hears the kingdom of heaven and does not understand it. Satan comes and snatches it away from his heart everything which was sown in it. This is the seed which fell on the road. (Hebrew Matthew 13:19) 19 "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. (Matt. 13:19 NAU)
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS REMOVED Another Potential Objection Is the Association to Jesus Christ in the 2nd Kingdom Parable (the Parable of the Tares), for the Church Fathers Did Not Have Personal Knowledge of Jesus. The Hebrew Matthew Removed the Association: 37 He answered them and said to them: The one who sows good seed is,האדם) man ha-a dam) (Hebrew Matthew 13:37) 37 And He said, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man(ὁυἱὸςτοῦἀνθρώπου, ho huios tou anthropou = בּ ן ה א ד ם, ben ha-a dam), (Matt. 13:36-37 NAU)
CHURCH FATHERS The ApostlesWere Those Who Had Personal Knowledge of Jesus Christ before His Death and Had Witnessed His Resurrected Life. Even Paul Fits That Profile. The Apostolic FathersHad Personal Knowledge of the Apostles: Clement of Rome Knew Peter and Paul; Ignatius Knew Barnabas and Paul; Polycarp and Papias Knew John. They Lived in Early Second Century; Their Testimonies of the Apostles Lives and NT Are Reliable. Some of Their Theologies Are Inspiring but Questionable (e.g. Barnabas on 6000 Years; Hermas on Dreams)
CHURCH FATHERS The Later Church Gather in 3 rd -4 th Century Are Great: The Apologists Defended Truthfulness of the Gospel to the Greek World by Arguing that It Is Reasonable in Greek Philosophy. But Paul Said that the Gospel Will Appear to Be Stupid to the Worldly Minded, Jews or Greek. So Compromises Were Made, at Least Suggested (e.g. Origen Believed in the Eternality of Human Souls and Transmigration). The Bible Was Gradually Canonized, but the OT Was the Greek Septuagint, Which Is Not Always Correct. The Doctrine of Trinitarianism Was Developed, but the Idea of Person Was Thought to Be Only a Facemask The Tares and the Wheat Are Together, and Cannot Be Told Apart or Pulled until the Time of Judgment.
