Introduction Jesus Parable of The Tares On the day of judgment Jesus will perfectly separate the unrighteous who claim to be in His kingdom from the righteous A parable is an earthly story designed to teach a spiritual lesson through a comparison Many parables focused on the nature of the kingdom of God, its King and its citizens Today, Jesus church is the visible manifestation of His kingdom The tares was one of many parables about 2 the kingdom Jesus spoke to a crowd Introduction He spoke many parables to crowds concealing the truth from those who had hardened their hearts against it but encouraging the interest of His disciples to know the Truth The tares along with the parable of the sower were unique because Jesus explains their meanings privately to His disciples 3 Introduction The main point of the parable of the tares is that on the day of judgment, Jesus will perfectly separate the unrighteous who claim to be in His kingdom from the righteous who truly are His disciples Does this mean we should not try to identify false teachers and discipline those Christians who refuse to repent of publicly known sins? 4 Jesus Parable of The Tares 1. Background 2. The parable 3. Applications Mat 13:10 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" Mat 13:11 Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 5 6

Mat 13:12 "For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. Mat 13:13 "Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 7 Mat 13:14 "In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, 'YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE; 8 Mat 13:15 FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.' 9 Mat 13:16 "But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. Mat 13:17 "For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. 10 Mat 13:34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable. Mat 13:35 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: "I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD." Mat 13:36 Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field." 11 12

Mar 4:33 With many such parables He was speaking the word to them, so far as they were able to hear it; Mar 4:34 and He did not speak to them without a parable; but He was explaining everything privately to His own disciples. 13 What Are Tares? Tares are weeds that look similar to wheat especially in the early stages of growth When the wheat grows to a certain point, the weeds can be discovered But, by that time, uprooting the weeds will also uproot many good plants since their roots are entangled with the tares At harvest, care was taken to separate the wheat from the tares 14 The Parable of The Tares The Parable of The Tares Mat 13:24 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. Mat 13:25 "But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away. Mat 13:26 "But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became Mat 13:27 "The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?' Mat 13:28 "And he said to them, 'An enemy has done this!' The slaves *said to him, 'Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?' evident also. 15 16 The Parable of The Tares Mat 13:29 "But he *said, 'No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them. Mat 13:30 'Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn."'" Jesus Explains The Parable of Mat 13:36 Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field." Mat 13:37 And He said, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, 17 18

Jesus Explains The Parable of Mat 13:38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; Mat 13:39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. Jesus Explains The Parable of Mat 13:40 "So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. Mat 13:41 "The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, 19 20 Jesus Explains The Parable of Mat 13:42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Mat 13:43 "Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. Wait Until The Harvest To Separate The Tares From The Wheat Mat 13:28 "And he said to them, 'An enemy has done this!' The slaves *said to him, 'Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?' Mat 13:29 "But he *said, 'No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them. 21 22 Wait Until The Harvest To Separate The Tares From The Wheat Mat 13:30 'Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn."'" 23 False Teachers Must Be Identified and Not Supported 2Jn 1:9 Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. 2Jn 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 24

False Teachers Must Be Identified and Not Supported 2Jn 1:11 for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds. Christians Who Do Not Repent of Public Sins Must Be Disciplined 1Co 5:1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife. 1Co 5:2 You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst. 25 26 Christians Who Do Not Repent of Public Sins Must Be Disciplined 1Co 5:3 For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. 1Co 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 27 Christians Who Do Not Repent of Public Sins Must Be Disciplined 1Co 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 1Co 5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. 28 The Lawless and Those Who Offend Will Be Perfectly Removed At The Harvest Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Mat 7:22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' The Lawless and Those Who Offend Will Be Perfectly Removed At The Harvest Mat 7:23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' 29 30

The Lawless and Those Who Offend Will Be Perfectly Removed At The Harvest Mat 18:6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. Mat 18:7 "Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! 31
