Opening Hymn Opening Acclamation

Celebrant People Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Collect for Purity Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Song of Praise

Collect of the Day Celebrant People Celebrant The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The Word of God First Reading A reading from The Book of Jeremiah. (28:5-95) Then the prophet Jeremiah spoke to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord;6and the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen! May the Lord do so; may the Lord fulfill the words that you have prophesied, and bring back to this place from Babylon the vessels of the house of the Lord, and all the exiles.7but listen now to this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people.8the prophets who preceded you and me from ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence against many countries and great kingdoms.9as for the prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of that prophet comes true, then it will be known that the Lord has truly sent the prophet. Reader The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God. Psalm 89:1-4,15-18 Misericordias Domini 1 Your love, O LORD, for ever will I sing; * from age to age my mouth will proclaim your faithfulness. 2 For I am persuaded that your love is established for ever; * you have set your faithfulness firmly in the heavens. 3 "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; * I have sworn an oath to David my servant: 4 I will establish your line for ever, * and preserve your throne for all generations. " 15 Happy are the people who know the festal shout! * they walk, O LORD, in the light of your presence. 16 They rejoice daily in your Name; * they are jubilant in your righteousness. 17 For you are the glory of their strength, * and by your favor our might is exalted. 18 Truly, the LORD is our ruler; * the Holy One of Israel is our King. Second Reading A reading from The Letter of Paul to the Romans. Romans 6:12-2312 Therefore, do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions.13no longer present your members to sin as instruments Or weapons of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments Or weapons of righteousness.14for sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.15what then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!16do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?17but thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted,18and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.19i am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. Gk the weakness of your flesh For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification.20when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.21so what advantage did you then get from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death.22but now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life.23for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Reader People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Gospel The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew (10:40-42). Glory to you, Lord Christ. Matthew 10:40-4240 Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.41whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous;42and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward. Deacon People The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. The people sit. Sermon The Rev. Charles Everson The people stand as they are able. The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People July 2, 2017 Fourth Sunday after Pentecost God has called us to be priests for all peoples, offering to God the world s concerns. Let us then pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs, saying: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Blessed are you, our sovereign God: for you do not abandon what you have created, but continue to make your grace known among us. We thank you for those you have chosen to speak your reconciling word in this age, and we pray for the grace to receive it. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Blessed are you, our caring God: for you hear the cries of the poor, you see the tears in the eyes of all who mourn, you feel the pain of those in anguish, and you come to the side of the lonely. Call your church to compassion and service. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Blessed are you, our God of peace: for you have bid us to make warfare cease and to place our trust in you who bore us up on eagle s wings. Raise up among us peacemakers, and confound those who trust in chariots and horses. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Blessed are you, our God of justice: for you desire that all be one. Erase the prejudice and class divisions among us, that together we might share in your vision of harmony. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Blessed are you, our God of strength: for you do not desire harm, but you favor our health. Give to us necessary measures of health, patience, and hope. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. The people stand. The Peace Celebrant People The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Then the Ministers and the People may greet one another in the name of the Lord.

Birthday and Anniversary Blessings Birthday Prayer Watch over your children (N.), O Lord, as their days increase; bless and guide them wherever they may be. Strengthen them when they stand; comfort them when discouraged or sorrowful; raise them up if they fall; and in their hearts may your peace which passes understanding abide all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Anniversary Prayer O gracious and ever living God, look mercifully upon this couple who come to you seeking your blessing on this their anniversary, continue assisting them with your grace, that with true fidelity and steadfast love they may honor and keep the promises and vows they have made; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen

Offertory Sentence Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. For everything in heaven and on earth is yours. The Great Thanksgiving Celebrant People Celebrant People Celebrant People The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For you are the source of light and life; you made us in your image, and called us to new life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Holy Holy Holy

Then the Celebrant continues Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and People say Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN The People respond Amen.

Lord's Prayer Celebrant And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, People and Celebrant Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Breaking of the Bread A period of silence is kept. Break Open Your Hearts Celebrant says People respond Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Celebrant says The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Chris died (and rose) for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.
